Presidential Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said, "The US retreat from the idea of displacing the Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip is an encouraging step in the right direction. We hope that these balanced statements by the US administration will continue to lead to a political path based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative."
He added, "We once again appreciate the unified Arab position rejecting displacement, which, along with the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their adherence to their land, has contributed to the abandonment of these ideas."
He said there is a need to continue unified Palestinian-Arab coordination, as this is a very important strategic step that can be built upon to support the Arab vision for rebuilding the Gaza Strip and embarking on a political process that embodies the establishment of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders, to achieve security, stability, and prosperity for the peoples of the region.
