Doha negotiations on Gaza continue, and a meeting to discuss reconstruction

Ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip continue in the Qatari capital, Doha, after the Israeli negotiating delegation, sent by the Israeli government, decided to extend its stay to continue discussing the Gaza agreement, which Israel has reneged on.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting on the negotiations, attended by ministers and security chiefs, amid anticipation of the deal's fate.

This comes after the foreign ministers of Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization's Executive Committee presented a plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip to US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, in response to US President Donald Trump's plan to displace Palestinians from the enclave.

UN rapporteurs also condemned the widespread arbitrary detention of Palestinians, including children, and the systematic use of torture in Israeli detention centers. They also denounced the mass forced displacement of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, and the ongoing crimes of genocide aimed at destroying the Palestinian people and attempting to eliminate them on ethnic grounds.

This comes as the International Court of Justice announced it will hold hearings next month to examine Israel's humanitarian obligations toward the Palestinians, amid accusations that the Israeli occupation is preventing aid from reaching Gaza.

Last December, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution requesting the court to issue an advisory opinion on the occupation's legal obligations in this regard. The court announced in an official statement that the hearings will begin on April 28 at its headquarters in The Hague.
