A "virus" attacks the Israelis... and the toll is 11 deaths

The Israeli Ministry of Health announced the diagnosis of 153 cases of West Nile fever in the central region of Israel, confirming the death of 11 people due to the disease.

West Nile fever is a viral disease spread by mosquitoes.

According to the monitoring results, the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Health asked citizens to protect themselves from mosquitoes by following the guidelines issued to assist in national efforts to reduce the mosquito menace.

To avoid mosquito bites and their dangers, the two ministries recommended drying stagnant water sources that may constitute a habitat for mosquitoes.

Symptoms of West Nile virus are fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, and sometimes a skin rash.

The timing of infection with the West Nile fever virus is between July and September, and the incidence of infection with this virus increases for individuals who work in open spaces away from offices and closed places in general.

This virus may cause a serious neurological disease in humans, but 80 percent of cases occur without any symptoms.
