Biden's statement on Eid al-Adha: We are doing everything we can to stop the war in Gaza

US President Joe Biden said that his administration is doing everything in its power to end the war in the Gaza Strip, free all detainees, provide humanitarian relief, and work toward a two-state solution in the future.

In a statement he issued on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, Biden explained that the Eid comes this year at a difficult time, as innocent civilians in Gaza are suffering from the scourge of war between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel.

He added that a very large number of innocent Palestinians were killed, including thousands of children, and families fled their homes and witnessed the destruction of their communities.

The US President said that he believes that the proposal presented by Israel for a ceasefire in 3 stages is the best way to end the war in Gaza.

In the same context, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that Biden wants to see an end to hostilities in Gaza and see the hostages return to their homes, as he put it.

He added that Washington seeks to ensure the arrival of aid away from the influence of military operations, saying: “We have achieved great progress in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.”

Aid arrives

Sullivan pointed to America's work "tirelessly with the Israelis to ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid," before adding, "We have made some progress in increasing the number of trucks by working with the United Nations."

He said that Washington is "working hard" to encourage the Israelis to take all possible measures to increase the flow of humanitarian aid, because "the situation in Gaza requires progress in delivering aid, but there will always be difficulty, because it is a war zone."

The US State Department explained the difficulty of predicting what the situation in Gaza will lead to, noting that Washington is focused on reaching a ceasefire.

The US State Department added, "We are working to transform the ceasefire into an end to the conflict, and to transform the end of the conflict into lasting peace."

She also said that the Israelis and Palestinians are not going anywhere. It is either peace or the tragedy will continue forever.
