The US army announces the downing of 11 Houthi drones and attacks Hodeidah
The US Army announced the downing of 11 drones belonging to the Ansar Allah Houthi group in Yemen, which announced last night that the Hodeidah Governorate in the west of the country was subjected to US-British raids after the Houthis targeted American and Israeli ships off the Gulf of Aden.
The US Army Central Command said in a post on the “X” platform that its forces shot down 3 drones launched from areas controlled by the Houthis yesterday, Wednesday, considering these drones “an imminent threat to American ships, the coalition, and commercial ships in the region.”
The Central Command added in its statement that it also destroyed 8 drones in Houthi-controlled areas over the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, in self-defense. However, the report did not mention any damage or injuries.
Targets
On the other hand, the Houthi group said in a statement yesterday morning that its latest attacks targeted 4 ships, two Israeli and two American ships, one of which was a warship.
The group's spokesman, Yahya Saree, said in a televised statement that targeting the four ships was a victory for the Palestinian people and a response to the American-British operations against Yemen, noting that one of the targeted ships was an American warship.
Saree added, "Israeli and American ships were targeted with a number of naval missiles and drones," and stressed that Houthi operations in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean will continue until the end of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Yesterday evening, the Houthi group announced that the coastal governorate of Hodeidah (west) had been subjected to 7 American-British raids, and the group’s Al-Masirah channel stated that the United States and Britain had launched 4 raids on the Al-Jabanah area in the governorate, after Hodeidah airport was subjected to 3 other raids earlier yesterday, and it did not clarify. Channel the results of these raids.
Hodeidah is one of the most important Yemeni governorates, as it contains an international airport and 3 vital ports, in addition to having a long coastal strip.
In solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been facing an ongoing devastating Israeli war since October 7, with American support, the Houthis are targeting, with missiles and drones, Israeli cargo ships or those linked to them in the Red Sea.
Since the beginning of this year, a US-led coalition has launched raids that it says target Houthi sites in various regions of Yemen, in response to its attacks in the Red Sea, which was met with a response from the group from time to time.
With the intervention of Washington and London and the tension taking an escalating turn last January, the Houthi group announced that it now considered all American and British ships among its military targets.
