US Elections: Donald Trump Wins Race to Become 47th President

US President-elect Donald Trump has won the US presidential election, after receiving 277 electoral college votes so far.

Trump became the second president in US history to win the presidency for two non-consecutive terms.

The losing Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, has received 224 electoral college votes so far.

Trump said early Wednesday that he had won the presidential election over his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris.

Speaking to supporters in Florida, Trump said: "We made history tonight. Look at what happened, isn't it crazy?"

During his speech, Trump thanked the audience and his supporters from the American people for electing him as the "47th President of the United States," as he put it.

He claimed victory in key states, including Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Alaska. "That would put us at about 350 electoral votes," he said, noting that he had also won the popular vote.

Trump also announced that his Republican Party had won the Senate, expressing his joy at the victory amid the applause of his supporters who had waited for his speech for hours.

"The victories are great... nobody expected this... I want to thank you for that, and it looks like we will also maintain our control of the House of Representatives," he said.

Republicans have regained control of the US Senate, after taking two seats held by Democrats in West Virginia and Ohio, according to the Associated Press.

Trump also thanked his wife Melania for her support during his election campaign, saying: "I also thank all my wonderful family and children."

Trump also thanked US House Speaker Mike Johnson, who was among the first to announce his victory.

On the same occasion, Trump congratulated vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance, saying, "I would like to be the first to congratulate him," before Vance took the floor to thank Republican voters in turn.

As he took the floor, Trump stressed that the United States is “one of the greatest countries and can be the greatest ever,” as he put it, and noted that “the country was on a bad path.” Regarding the immigration issue, Trump said: “We have to fix the border quickly. We want people to come in legally,” adding: “We will help the country heal.” At the end of his speech, Trump thanked the millions of Americans “who were the heart and soul of this great movement,” as he said. Trump promised to cut taxes, saying: “We can do things that nobody else can do. China doesn’t have what we have. Nobody else has what we have.”

"We will change the course of the country in many ways and this will be remembered as the day the American people took back control of their country," he said.

Trump pointed to the dynamics his campaign created, saying that the campaign was able to attract different Americans. “These people came from all over the place... from unions, black Americans, Latinos, Arab Americans, Muslim Americans... we have everyone, this is beautiful. This is a historic alliance that united people from different backgrounds.”

He continued, speaking about the two assassination attempts he faced during the election campaign, saying, "God saved me for a reason, and that reason is to save the country and restore America's greatness, and now we will accomplish this mission together."

He concluded by saying, "I will rule with a simple slogan... The promises that are made are promises that we keep and implement. Nothing will prevent me from fulfilling the promises that I made to myself in front of you."

"It's time to put aside the divisions of the past four years, it's time to unite. Success brings us together, and we're going to start by putting America first," he said. "Together, we can make America great again for all Americans."

"I will not let you down," he concluded. "America's future will be better."

By the time Trump took to the stage in front of his fans, he had 267 electoral college votes, compared to 214 for his rival Kamala Harris, putting him just three votes away from the 270 electoral college votes needed to secure the White House.
