Israel's security cabinet authorized a series of measures proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to combat "terrorists" and their financial backers, according to the Hebrew news site Ynet.
While the site did not disclose what steps were taken in the two-and-a-half hour meeting, they are likely to include wider-scale raids on armed cells in the West Bank and targeted assassinations.
The meeting was supposed to take place on September 10, but was pushed forward due to the security situation.
On Monday, one Israeli settler was shot dead and another wounded by a Palestinian gunman near Hebron – the latest in a string of shooting attacks in the occupied West Bank.
Israel's National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, was reassured that lockdown on Palestinian areas are already on the table, but was reportedly rebuffed in the meeting after suggesting more extreme measures, including cracking down on Palestinian security prisoners.
Gallant reportedly told him that some of his policy suggestions "increase the risk of friction."
