Tehran warns Sofia against facilitating US military operations against it

Tehran issued a strong warning to Bulgaria today, Tuesday, demanding that it not allow the United States to use its territory as a launchpad for military operations targeting the Islamic Republic. This stance was expressed by the spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, amid reports of Sofia's intention to enhance military cooperation with Washington.

Sources reported that the Bulgarian government, a member of NATO, plans to seek parliamentary authorization to deploy up to eight US aerial refueling aircraft. These aircraft are scheduled to be stationed at the "Bezmer" military base located southeast of the capital Sofia, a move that Tehran views as a direct threat to its national security.

Baghaei, in statements reported by official media, stressed the necessity for Bulgaria to adhere to international law and not become a "partner to aggressors." He added that facilitating any American attacks would place Sofia in the circle of complicity in what he described as "aggression and war crimes," warning of the repercussions of engaging in the ongoing military escalation in the region.

This diplomatic tension comes at a time when the relationship between Washington and Tehran is witnessing a remarkable field escalation, as mutual raids intensified after the collapse of a temporary ceasefire agreement signed last month. International concerns are growing about the two sides sliding into a comprehensive confrontation, especially with reports indicating that other European countries, including Britain, have granted similar facilities to US forces.

Any activity that facilitates US attacks on Iran will be considered complicity in aggression and war crimes.
