The western sector of southern Lebanon was subjected to a series of intense aerial raids and artillery shelling, in a wave of escalation described as the most violent in months. Field sources reported that the Israeli army intensified its strikes on border villages, using warplanes and drones to simultaneously hit multiple targets.
Military operations focused mainly on the town of Majdal Zoun and its surrounding hills, where Israeli fighters launched more than 12 airstrikes targeting residential neighborhoods and open areas. These attacks come amid escalating tension witnessed in the area opposite the towns of Shama and Al-Bayada, leading to a state of panic among local residents.
Field reports indicated attempts of ground advance by Israeli forces towards the town of Majdal Zoun under heavy fire cover, which is the first development of its kind since the ceasefire agreement last April. Movements of military vehicles were recorded from the directions of Wadi Hassan and Tyre Harfa, in an attempt to infiltrate the neighborhoods of the border town.
The shelling was not limited to Majdal Zoun but extended to include the town of Mansouri and neighboring villages up to the Zibqin area, where artillery shelling continued for long hours. Sources explained that the pace of raids witnessed a slight decrease this morning, but reconnaissance planes are still flying heavily in Lebanese airspace.
In another field development, the targeting circle extended to include areas in Western Bekaa, Jezzine district, and Nabatieh, amid news of suspicious military movements north of the Litani River. Unconfirmed reports spoke of Israeli vehicles advancing towards Kafrtibnit from the towns of Yahmar Al-Shaqif, Arnoun, and Eastern and Western Zawtar.
News platforms circulated videos showing the movement of military vehicles towards the Nabatieh Al-Fawqa area and the strategic Ali Al-Taher site. This site is considered a militarily commanding point as it directly overlooks the city of Nabatieh and its surroundings, raising fears of an expansion of ground confrontations.
In the Jezzine area, official sources reported that Israeli artillery targeted the outskirts of Al-Qatrani town near Shbeil school, coinciding with four airstrikes on the same location. A drone also targeted Al-Shahabiya town in the Tyre district, causing severe material damage to properties near the Health Authority center.
On the humanitarian front, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced a heavy toll from the Israeli raids, with 9 citizens martyred, including a woman, and 10 others injured in the town of Tyre Diba. A raid targeting the city of Sidon also resulted in the martyrdom of 3 people and the injury of another, while rescue operations continue to remove the rubble.
In the town of Haris, two paramedics belonging to the Al-Risala Health Ambulance Association were injured due to a raid that targeted the area while they were performing their humanitarian duty. Shelling also hit a house in the Maqasid neighborhood of Nabatieh city this morning, causing a large fire that consumed the house and several parked cars in the area.
This military escalation comes at a sensitive time, as observers believe that these field movements may undermine the fragile existing understandings. Field sources continue to monitor ground movements on the border, amid full alert of relief and medical agencies in various governorates of southern Lebanon to deal with the repercussions of the ongoing aggression.
The escalation was clearly manifested in the western sector, which experienced one of the most violent days since the beginning of the war, with an unprecedented level of shelling.
