The Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" on Tuesday denied the statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that the movement is the one rejecting ceasefire offers in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "the sole obstacle to all attempts to reach an agreement."
This came in a statement from the movement in response to what was said in the U.S. president's speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, in which he stated that he is seeking "to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza," claiming that "Hamas has repeatedly rejected all offers."
The movement stated in its announcement that it "has never been an obstacle to reaching an agreement for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and has provided all the necessary flexibility and positivity for that purpose."
It added: "The U.S. administration, the mediators, and the whole world know that the war criminal Netanyahu is the sole obstacle to all attempts to reach an agreement."
The Israeli opposition and families of prisoners accuse Netanyahu of sabotaging any chance to reach a deal to end the war and return their loved ones, in order to preserve his political interests and remain in power, despite Hamas's agreement to the mediators' proposals for both partial and comprehensive deals.
Hamas continued in its statement: "The terrorist Netanyahu has turned against the agreement from last January, and completely ignored the proposal from (U.S. envoy Steve) Wietkoff, which the movement announced its acceptance of, before committing his heinous crime by bombing the meeting place of the movement's delegation for negotiations in Doha while discussing Trump's latest paper."
On August 18, Hamas agreed to a proposal from the mediators regarding a partial ceasefire and prisoner exchange, but Israel did not respond to the mediators, despite the terms matching a previous proposal put forth by Wietkoff that Tel Aviv had accepted.
On September 9, the Israeli army launched an airstrike on the Hamas delegation in Doha while they were discussing a proposal from the U.S. president regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, which Qatar condemned and affirmed its right to respond to this aggression.
At that time, Hamas announced the survival of its negotiating delegation led by its chief in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, from an assassination attempt, and the killing of his office director Jihad Labad, his son Hamam al-Hayya, and three companions.
In its statement today, Hamas called on "the U.S. administration to side with the values of justice, and to intervene positively to compel the terrorist occupying government to stop the crimes of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement against our Palestinian people, and to lift its political and military cover from this brutal war."
This comes as the Israeli army continues its assault on the city of Gaza since August 11, in an operation later named "Gideon's Chariots 2," which includes the demolition of homes using explosive robots, artillery shelling, random gunfire, forced displacement, and ground incursions.
With U.S. support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 65,382 deaths and 166,985 injuries, most of whom are children and women, and famine that has claimed the lives of 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
The U.S. administration, the mediators, and the whole world know that the war criminal Netanyahu is the sole obstacle to all attempts to reach an agreement.
