Istanbul hosts an international conference to discuss reconstruction in Gaza and the surrounding countries.

Istanbul will host the sixth international conference of the European Academy of Islamic Finance and Economics (EIFE) on September 26 and 27, under the title "Reconstruction in Islamic Economics between Heritage and Modernity," with the participation of more than 40 scholars and researchers from several Arab and Islamic countries.

EIFE stated in a press release on Sunday that the conference, scheduled to be held at the Islamic Economics Center at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, will feature a select group of academics, researchers, and experts in Islamic economics from around the world, in addition to representatives from financial institutions, civil society organizations, and decision-makers interested in issues of reconstruction and sustainable development.

The President of the European Academy of Islamic Finance and Economics, Ashraf Douaba, said in a press statement that the conference "takes place at a critical moment, as the challenges facing reconstruction efforts in Arab and Islamic countries that have experienced wars and disasters are increasing, especially in Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, Turkey, and Afghanistan."

Douaba added: "The conference also aims to provide practical solutions and innovative visions based on the values and effective tools of Islamic economics, clarifying that 'the conference pays special attention to the issue of reconstructing Gaza, considering it a living model of the suffering of communities under siege and wars.'

He explained, "We have allocated scientific sessions to discuss the reconstruction of Gaza as a religious obligation and an economic necessity, and to explore the role of sukuk, endowments, and Islamic financial institutions in financing reconstruction projects and maximizing their developmental impact in the sector."

The conference will feature 40 scholars and researchers from several Arab and Islamic countries, including the President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars Ali Qaradaghi, Professor of Economics at Alexandria University Abdul Rahman Yousri, President of the European Academy of Islamic Finance and Economics Ashraf Douaba, and President of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Ahmed Jawat Aja.

It is noteworthy that the European Academy of Islamic Finance and Economics is an institution that provides continuous education, training, consulting, research, and arbitration services in the field of Islamic finance and economics, in both the United Kingdom and Turkey.

The academy held its fifth international conference titled: "Islamic Economics and the Turkish Renaissance in the Second Century," in May 2024, with the participation of 30 scholars and researchers in economics and Islamic finance from 15 countries.
