Rubio: No Palestinian state without Israel's consent

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described plans by some Western governments to recognize a Palestinian state as "unworkable," claiming that "there will be no Palestinian state without Israel's consent."

Rubio made the remarks in an interview with Fox News on Thursday.

In response to a question: "How does the United States view the decision by Western countries to recognize Palestine?" Rubio replied: "This is a frustrating step for some, and it means nothing."

He affirmed the United States' support for Israel, adding, "None of these countries (planning to recognize Palestine) has the capacity to establish a Palestinian state. There will be no Palestinian state until Israel agrees."

He claimed that the countries intending to recognize Palestine do not know where the Palestinian state will be or who will govern it, saying, "This decision will backfire," as he put it.

Witkov visits Gaza. Hamas confirms its readiness to engage in new negotiations.

On Friday morning, US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff visited a food aid distribution center affiliated with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israeli media, including the official Broadcasting Authority and the private Channel 12, reported that Witkov's convoy reached the Morag axis north of Rafah, where it inspected a food distribution center.

This will be Witkov's second announced visit to Gaza, having visited the Strip in January during a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that remained in effect until March 18, when Israel resumed its aggression.

After 22 months of war, the besieged and devastated Gaza Strip is threatened by "all-out famine," according to the United Nations, especially since it relies heavily on humanitarian aid delivered by truck or dropped from the air.

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, announced Thursday evening its readiness to "immediately engage in new ceasefire negotiations if aid reaches those in need in the Gaza Strip." This came as US envoy Steve Witkoff visited the war-ravaged Palestinian enclave.

Tel Aviv continues its policy of starvation in the Gaza Strip amid a war of extermination that has been ongoing for more than 665 days. This war has left more than 207,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and famine has claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.

"Immediate engagement in negotiations"

Hamas said in a statement: "The movement affirms its readiness to immediately engage in negotiations again once aid reaches those who deserve it and ends the humanitarian crisis and famine in Gaza."

The movement stressed that "continuing negotiations while the Gaza Strip is starving renders them meaningless and futile, especially after the criminal Zionist occupation withdrew from the negotiations last week without justification, just as we were on the verge of reaching an agreement."

She called on the international community and "all relevant parties to take immediate action to stop this mass massacre being perpetrated by the enemy in Gaza, to deliver food supplies immediately to our people in all areas of the Strip without restrictions or conditions, and to ensure their protection."

An Israeli official said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed, during his meeting with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, the possibility of moving from a "partial and gradual deal to a comprehensive deal on Gaza."

Days ago, Israel withdrew from indirect negotiations with Hamas due to Tel Aviv's intransigence regarding the withdrawal from Gaza, ending the war, Palestinian prisoners, and the aid distribution mechanism.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that Witkoff and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee "will travel to Gaza to review current aid distribution sites and develop a plan to deliver additional food to the Strip's residents, who are facing "full-scale famine," according to the United Nations.

The spokeswoman explained that they "will meet (there) with residents of Gaza to hear directly from them what they have to say about this terrible situation," she said.

She added, "The envoy and the ambassador will present to the president the outcome of their visit immediately, with the aim of approving a final plan for distributing aid and food in the region."

Witkov met with the Israeli prime minister on Thursday, amid unprecedented international pressure from a growing number of countries that have pledged to recognize the state of Palestine.

US President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that "the quickest way to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is for Hamas to surrender and release the hostages," as he put it.

Earlier this week, Trump expressed concern about a "real famine" in Gaza, a stance that contrasts sharply with that of his ally, Netanyahu. Prior to the US envoy's arrival, dozens of relatives of Israeli prisoners still held by Hamas demonstrated outside the Israeli Prime Minister's office. The demonstrators reiterated their demand that the Israeli government reach a "comprehensive agreement" guaranteeing the release of 49 prisoners still in Gaza, including 27 who the Israeli military has declared dead.

Settlers set fire to a vehicle belonging to foreign activists and attacked citizens' homes in Masafer Yatta.

Settlers set fire to a vehicle belonging to foreign activists, along with furniture and water tanks, Thursday evening. They also attacked homes, including one housing a group of foreign activists in the Masafer Yatta area, south of Hebron.

Activist Osama Makhamreh told WAFA that a group of armed settlers from the Susya settlement, built on Palestinian land, attacked the village of Susya and burned a vehicle belonging to foreign activists, as well as furniture and water tanks near the home of Nasser Shriteh. They sprayed an unknown type of gas inside the house, where several foreign activists and members of Shriteh's family were present.

He added that the settlers threw Molotov cocktails and stones at the home of Mohammed Mughnim, and that the residents were able to extinguish the fire before it spread inside and around the house. No injuries were reported.

The first European country to take this decision: Slovenia bans arms trade with Israel.

Slovenia announced Thursday evening that it will ban all arms trade with Israel due to the war on the Gaza Strip, a move it described as the first of its kind by a European Union country.

The Slovenian government indicated in a statement that it had approved a decision today, at the initiative of Prime Minister Robert Gollub, prohibiting the export and transit of weapons and military equipment from or through the Republic of Slovenia to Israel, as well as imports from Israel to the Republic of Slovenia.

The statement added: "This decision comes in implementation of the statements of Prime Minister Robert Gollub, who has repeatedly declared—most recently on the sidelines of the European Council summit in June—that if the European Union is unable to take concrete action by mid-July, Slovenia will act independently."

He continued: "Due to internal disagreements and a lack of unity, the European Union is currently unable to fulfill this role."

The statement noted that "people in Gaza are dying because humanitarian aid is being systematically denied to them. They are dying under the rubble, without clean water, food, or basic healthcare. This is a complete denial of humanitarian access and a deliberate obstruction of the provision of the minimum conditions for survival. In such circumstances, it is the duty of every responsible state to take action, even if it is the first to do so."

The statement affirmed that "Slovenia firmly and principledly advocates for respect for international law and the protection of human rights. For this reason, the government of Dr. Robert Golob will, in the coming weeks, prepare additional national measures against the current Israeli government, whose actions constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law."

Is British recognition of the State of Palestine an opportunity to correct the sin of the century or a new trap?

Alaa Ashour

The anticipated British recognition of the State of Palestine represents a pivotal political moment that could mark a turning point in the course of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It also represents a rare opportunity to rectify a historical sin committed by Britain more than a century ago with the infamous Balfour Declaration, which laid the political and legal foundation for the establishment of the State of Israel at the expense of the national rights of the Palestinian people.

Such a decision, if implemented, should not be treated as a symbolic or moral reward, but rather as a political and diplomatic gain that must be built upon within a comprehensive national strategy. What is required today is not merely a series of international recognitions, but rather genuine recognition translated into measures that ensure the realization of a Palestinian state on the ground, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among which are the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.

This shift in the British position may, to some extent, reflect a gradual rift in the front of absolute Western support for Israel. It also reveals a growing international conviction that the continued occupation and the entrenchment of the settlement project have reached levels that undermine the prospects for "peace" and permanently exacerbate the situation. Furthermore, the relatively advanced European positions may open the door to a restructuring of the American relationship with the Palestinian issue, especially since Washington's continued isolation and extremist position have become a political and moral burden, even for its allies.

But amid this cautious optimism, a major dilemma arises: What are the borders of the Palestinian state being discussed? And what is the status of Jerusalem in this equation? Herein lies the real danger. The devil is in the details, and the fear is that international recognition will transform into a distorted version of the Palestinian state—a state without sovereignty, without clear borders, dismembered, and without Jerusalem as its de facto capital.

Any attempt to impose a vague or incomplete settlement will be more dangerous than the occupation itself, because it means entrenching the status quo rather than changing it. Hence, the importance of the Palestinian position being commensurate with international developments. We need a unified national position, based on adherence to fundamental principles, and a strategic vision capable of exploiting this historic opportunity to break through the political and diplomatic siege, without falling into the trap of gratuitous concessions.

It is time for the Palestinian leadership to act with a unified discourse and a clear plan of action, based on diplomacy. However, it must also recognize that the battle for recognition of the State of Palestine is part of the battle for freedom and national liberation, and that a state is not born on paper alone. Rather, it requires political will, internal cohesion, and unanimous popular support.

We are facing a critical political moment that brooks neither hesitation nor fragmentation. If properly utilized, it could mark the beginning of the end of decades of marginalization and denial of the rights of a people who have long resisted history.

Israel's Response to Promised Recognitions: Practical Measures to Thwart International Attitudes

Johnny Mansour: This is an advanced step in the policies of countries like Britain and France, and this means that the suffering of the Palestinian people has reached a point that requires the West to take a step.

Dr. Adnan Al-Afandy: The recognition of these countries is a rolling international "tsunami" that could force the occupying state to face difficult choices, especially regarding the war on Gaza.

Shadi Al-Sharafa: Linking recognition in September to conditions does not serve the Palestinian cause, and there must be a correction of the historical path taken by Britain.

Al-Sanea's request: We welcome this realization, even if it comes late, but the real test is not only in recognizing the Palestinian state, but in actually establishing it.

Imad Abu Awad: Israel will either radically and rapidly change its policies, which is unlikely, or it will find itself unable to confront the future.

Osama Al-Sharif: The ongoing massacres and war of extermination in Gaza have triggered a political "tsunami" that is pressuring Western governments thanks to the awakening of the street there.

The threats issued by extremist and racist extremists in Israel following France's and later Britain's announcement of their intention to conditionally recognize the State of Palestine next September reveal the truth about Israeli plans and raise real fears of actual measures to annex the West Bank, end the Palestinian Authority, and completely eliminate the idea of establishing a Palestinian state. What steps must these countries take to implement their pledges and prevent the occupying state from imposing facts on the ground that would prevent the realization of the desired Palestinian state?

Writers, analysts, and academics who spoke to "I" considered these admissions a significant step forward in the policies of countries like Britain and France, emphasizing that this step is a ripple of international "tsunami" that could force the occupying state to face difficult choices, particularly regarding the war on Gaza.

However, some analysts and writers believe that linking recognition in September to conditions does not serve the Palestinian cause, and that there must be a correction of the historical course taken by Britain. They add, "The real test lies not only in recognizing a Palestinian state, but in actually establishing that state."

An advanced step in state policies

Historian and Israeli affairs researcher Johnny Mansour said, "There are those who consider the initiative of Britain and a number of world governments, including Western European countries, a positive step toward a two-state solution, and thus achieving justice for the Palestinian people and spreading stability and peace throughout the Middle East."

He added, "There are those who consider it a step towards a virtual Palestinian state in the absence of executive forces that can force Israel to withdraw from the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967."

Mansour continued, "But let's look at the issue more deeply. This is an advanced step in the policies of countries that will follow suit, such as Britain, France, Norway, and others. This means that the pain, suffering, and wounds of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank have reached a point where the West must take action."

On the other hand, Mansour believes that the scenes of starvation, killing, genocide, and humiliation of the Palestinian people in Gaza have reached every home around the world.

He said, "We believe that Israel's position on this step confirms its rejection, especially since we are facing a right-wing government par excellence, to find a solution to the conflict."

Mansour asserted that Netanyahu himself had come out against British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his announcement that his country would soon recognize a Palestinian state, accusing him of the most absurd of comparisons, to the point of comparing him to the naive Chamberlain before Hitler on the eve of World War II.

He pointed out that some have likened him to paving the way for Hitler, or Nazism, and we all know the intent behind such comparisons. He noted that the intent behind them is to portray Starmer and other world leaders as Nazis who are giving a gift to "Palestinian terrorism."

The era of hypocrisy is over and the era of telling the truth has come

Researcher Mansour explained that Israel will remain convinced that the Palestinians do not have the right to establish a state on their homeland, and that Western support in particular is deeply wrong.

He stated that, according to Chinese wisdom, "much water flows in the river," which means the world wants to rid itself of the legacy of World War II. He also noted that the governments of many countries, in light of Israel's crimes in Gaza, are moving to support the steadfastness and survival of the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli aggression, supported by the US administration.

He added that Europe, in particular, stands up to the United States, which restores its position in global politics.

Mansour said: "We are facing another confrontation between the Israeli government and the countries that have and will announce their recognition of a Palestinian state, and they will work to convince the world of the sincerity of their intentions." However, he emphasized that the era of whitewashing, cover-up, and official and media hypocrisy is over. Now is the time to tell the truth in full view of the world, and the images of the starving people behind screens are screaming loudly into the conscience of the world.

He asked: Will the confessions produce a practical plan to implement them on the ground? Time will tell.

Israel's isolation is increasing day by day.

For his part, Israeli affairs analyst Dr. Adnan Al-Afandy said that Israel's isolation is increasing day by day due to the massacres committed by the Israeli occupation state against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, as well as its racist and repressive policies in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

He stressed that the occupying state has become, in the eyes of the world, a racist colonial power practicing ethnic cleansing and genocide against the Palestinian people. This will have a significant positive impact on the Palestinian cause, will lead to the isolation of the occupying state from the rest of the world, and will weaken the occupying state internationally.

Al-Afandy pointed out that this is what actually happened recently, especially with Britain announcing that it would recognize a Palestinian state in September if the occupying state did not completely stop its war against the Palestinian people, and clarifying that the West Bank would not be annexed. He added: This comes after French President Macron also announced a few days ago his intention to move forward with recognizing a Palestinian state, and this was met with official Israeli reactions from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which considered this step to weaken efforts aimed at a ceasefire in Gaza and a possible settlement of the prisoners’ issue.

The analyst, Afandi, noted that Australia and Canada joined France's call to recognize a Palestinian state, while other countries that signed the call included Malta, New Zealand, Portugal, Norway, Spain, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Ireland, Finland, and Iceland.

He emphasized that this recognition by these countries represents a rolling international "tsunami" that could force the occupying state to face difficult choices, particularly regarding the war in the Gaza Strip and the killing of Palestinians by starvation, in addition to killing by fire, especially since the number of Palestinian martyrs in the Gaza Strip has reached 60,000, and the occupying state is forced to end its occupation of Gaza.

Confession in the wake of the occupation's massacres in the Gaza Strip

Al-Afandy believes that this recognition comes as a result of the massacres and killings committed by the occupation in the Gaza Strip, and as a result of the transmission of images of Palestinian martyrs, whether by fire or starvation, to the entire world. He pointed out that this has dispelled the false Israeli narrative and highlighted the truth of the Palestinian narrative, following the United Nations' confirmation that a quarter of Palestinians in Gaza go hungry every day.

He pointed out that various reactions and numerous questions within diplomatic circles in the occupying state pointed to the reasons and motives behind the tsunami of recognition of a Palestinian state, and warned of the potential expansion of this tsunami, which could lead to many other countries joining in recognizing a Palestinian state.

Al-Afandy believes that the occupying state is experiencing its most difficult period ever, diplomatically and internationally. This was evident in the reactions expressed by Netanyahu, who said that the Palestinians are not seeking a state alongside Israel, but rather a state in its place. Meanwhile, the occupation's Minister of War, Katz, said: "Macron's announcement recognizing the State of Palestine is a disgrace and a surrender to terrorism." He added: "We will not allow the establishment of a Palestinian entity that threatens our security and existence and infringes upon our historical rights."

Al-Afandy addressed the statements of Smotrich and the opposition leader, who also spoke in a manner that demonstrated the great pressure and clear impact on the occupying state in many aspects, both on the internal situation and on the occupying state's relations with countries around the world, and the great pressure exerted on them.

Gradual structural transformations that start from the bottom up

For his part, Israeli affairs analyst Shadi Al-Sharafa emphasized that the reality is not limited to a state of political stagnation, but also includes the ongoing genocide and persecution of the few who remain steadfast, whether in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip.

He added: "This reality has begun to impose new variables at the international level, as countries, particularly European and Western ones, as well as the United States of America, are witnessing gradual structural transformations that originate from the bottom up, not the other way around.

He said that these changes have begun to worry Israel politically, as they are reflected in official positions in Europe and the United States. This is evident in the positions regarding recognition of the Palestinian state, which constitutes a Palestinian diplomatic achievement resulting from enormous sacrifices and the blood of martyrs and wounded in the battle that has been ongoing for nearly two years.

Al-Shurafa pointed out that the Israeli response was ready, as if the recognition of the Palestinian state had been made according to a pre-arranged deal. Israel considered any recognition of an independent Palestinian state to be a reward for terrorism. Some Israeli officials even used the term "reward for Hamas," emphasizing that such recognition legitimizes terrorism and does not serve peace. This is an extremely dangerous position, as, from the Israeli perspective, an independent Palestinian state has become synonymous with terrorism.

Israel promotes its false narrative

Al-Shorafa believes that Israel is promoting a false narrative that its withdrawal from Gaza led to disastrous results, and accordingly, it considers any form of Palestinian independence an existential threat. Among the Israeli reactions are Minister Smotrich's statement regarding cutting off financial transfers and tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority, along with repeated threats to annex Palestinian territories. All of this is aimed at obstructing international efforts to reach a formula for recognizing an independent Palestinian state.

He explained that it is necessary to return to the past, from Rabin to Olmert, where Israel considered any unilateral Palestinian step an obstacle to the political process, as it negated the principle of direct negotiations. This formula, adopted previously, did not ultimately lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, but rather allowed Israel to evade its international obligations.

He said: Today, Israel views the wave of international recognition of a Palestinian state as a "political tsunami" that not only disrupts the political process but also poses a direct and existential security threat. Anyone who raises the issue of recognizing a Palestinian state is now viewed as anti-Semitic, a supporter of terrorism, and an existential threat to Jews.

Netanyahu's dependence on the fascist right is turning Israel into a pariah state.

Al-Shurafa pointed out that one of the most prominent statements in this context was made by Israeli Foreign Minister Katz, who said that "paper does not change reality," referring to the fact that "this land is the historical land of Israel, and we must continue to settle there." This was a statement directed at the Israeli public, but it was not widely accepted. Harsh criticism began to be heard from influential figures, research centers, prominent academics and journalists, as well as reserve generals, all of whom assert that the current government has failed diplomatically, politically, and strategically.

He added: "Many believe that Netanyahu, because of his dependence on the extreme and fascist right, is making strategic mistakes that could lead to Israel's global isolation and turn it into a pariah state, similar to what happened with the apartheid regime in South Africa. This is what Israel fears, as it realizes that its economic collapse could be similar to what happened to that regime, and that it would only survive a few months if it were imposed with international isolation."

Al-Shorfa emphasized that international recognition represents a diplomatic victory for the Palestinians, but it was not the result of the efforts of the political leadership alone, but rather the result of the collective sacrifices made by the Palestinian people.

Al-Shurafa said, "Even if this recognition comes late, it cannot be conditional. The British statement in September that linked recognition to conditions does not serve the Palestinian cause, and there must be a correction of the historical course that Europe, specifically Britain, has taken against the Palestinian people."

Israel is a moral and political burden on its supporters.

For his part, Israeli affairs analyst Talab Al-Sanea asserted that the colonial powers that supported, financed, and armed Israel for decades, and were party to the establishment of the State of Israel as an extension of the colonial project in the region to protect their interests, have realized, albeit belatedly, that this project has become a burden on them.

Al-Sanea explained that this burden is no longer merely moral, but has also become political, leading to conflicts between these countries and their peoples. Consequently, they are now trying to be more consistent with their declared slogans regarding human rights, in an attempt to reconcile their governments and their peoples.

Al-Sanea added that this explains the apparent acceleration in the positions of these influential countries, despite their dark and colonial history, especially France and Britain. He said, "Ultimately, we welcome this realization, even if it comes late. But the real test is not only in recognizing the Palestinian state, but in actually establishing this state."

He pointed out that the Palestinian people paid a heavy price as a result of this colonial project, and that they were its direct victims, starting with the Balfour Declaration and continuing with the British Mandate. Britain, as a mandate state granted by the United Nations, failed to implement the mission of establishing two states in the region, and instead sought to establish a single state, contributing to the creation and manufacture of this destructive conflict, for which the Palestinians paid the price in blood and occupation for decades.

Al-Sanea concluded by saying, "It is time for these countries to atone for their mistakes and sins, by truly recognizing the Palestinian state and working diligently to establish it on the ground, rather than simply relying on symbolic speeches."

Israel fears rapid shifts in public opinion.

In this context, Israeli affairs analyst Imad Abu Awad said that Israel has begun to feel increasingly concerned about international reactions.

He pointed out that this concern is not necessarily based on current political positions, as Israel, with the support of the United States, can overcome these positions through various means, such as launching a formal political process, reaching a truce in the Gaza Strip, easing the starvation, and so on.

However, according to Abu Awad, Israel's real fear lies in the rapid shifts in public opinion, which many Israeli circles are discussing, raising questions about how to deal with future generations.

He said: "For example, one poll showed that 21% of young Britons do not believe Israel has a right to exist, and 50% of French people said they would be happy if Jews left France. There has been a 300% increase in anti-Semitism around the world, according to reports.

Abu Awad believes that Israel, with its current behavior and the genocide it has perpetrated in the Gaza Strip, has effectively contributed to shaping a new global consciousness, particularly in Western countries, that rejects the very idea of Israel's existence. He believes that its actions reflect the fascist mentality of the Israeli regime.

He emphasized that this does not mean that the judgment should be generalized against Jews, but that the prevailing view of Israel today has taken on this character in international public opinion.

Abu Awad said, "Israel has two options: either to radically and rapidly change its policies, which is unlikely given current trends, or it will find itself unable to confront the future, especially in light of the growing global mood against it, which could become an insurmountable pressure factor in the coming years."

A late crisis of conscience in Western capitals

For his part, Jordanian writer and political analyst Osama Al-Sharif said that the ongoing massacres in Gaza, the war of extermination, ethnic cleansing, and famine devastating children and infants, have all triggered a political tsunami that is pressuring Western governments, thanks to the awakening of the street there.

He pointed out that living democracies take into account the street and its impact on the ballot boxes.

Al-Sharif stressed that the irony is that this movement is not found in the capitals of the Arab and Islamic worlds.

He said: "This popular movement, angry and resentful of the hypocrisy of its governments, their silence, and even their complicity with the criminal, has all led to a late crisis of conscience in the capitals of the West."

Al-Sharif noted that recognizing the State of Palestine is a positive step. He added, "But let's be realistic. Israel, backed by the United States, will fight this recognition, and this may push the right-wing government to announce the annexation of the West Bank and the dissolution of the Palestinian Authority. All of this is expected."

Al-Sharif believes that the real test lies in the presence of the political will to confront Israel politically and economically and deepen the unprecedented political isolation that Tel Aviv is experiencing.

Al-Sharif emphasized that the international movement is ending the United States' monopoly over the so-called peace process that began in Madrid and ended with Oslo and its false promises. He noted that the Palestinian issue is returning to the international fold, ending Washington's monopoly, which deceived the Palestinians and allowed Netanyahu's Israel to shed Palestinian blood in this manner.

Trump is convinced that Netanyahu is prolonging the war on Gaza to stay in power.

The Atlantic, published by the Washington-based think tank, quoted two US officials as saying that President Donald Trump has come to the conclusion, one that has haunted many in Washington for months, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is prolonging Israel's war in Gaza to cling to political power, in direct defiance of Trump's desire to end the war.

The US president and some of his aides believe that Israel's military objectives in Gaza were achieved long ago, and that Netanyahu continued his offensive, which has killed tens of thousands of civilians, to maintain his political power.

A report on Thursday, based on several unnamed sources, claimed that Trump and many of his aides are more eager than ever to end the fighting in Gaza amid widespread condemnation of Israel's wartime conduct, including from a growing faction of the Republican Party.

The White House also believes Netanyahu is taking steps that are obstructing any potential ceasefire agreement. However, the officials said they did not expect Trump to hold Netanyahu accountable in any way. Although Trump felt disrespected by Netanyahu, his anger did not translate into any fundamental shift in US policy.

Trump, who blamed Hamas for the recent collapse of ceasefire talks, refused to join France and the United Kingdom in their pledges this week to recognize a Palestinian state unless Israel improves the humanitarian situation in Gaza and commits to the peace process.

A White House official confirmed that, according to a report in The Atlantic on Thursday, "there is no fundamental disagreement" between Trump and Netanyahu, and that "allies can sometimes disagree, even if it's a serious one." In an attempt to gloss over his differences with Netanyahu, Trump wrote on the Truth Social website on Thursday: "The quickest way to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is for Hamas to surrender and release the hostages!!!"

With negotiations over a hostage deal and ceasefire once again facing severe obstacles, President Trump has reportedly become convinced that Israel has already achieved its long-standing military objectives in Gaza, and that the current fighting is fueled primarily by the prime minister's political interests.

The report was published as Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Thursday afternoon to discuss the stalled negotiations between Israel and Hamas.

Witkoff was also scheduled to make a rare visit to Gaza during his trip, to visit aid distribution centers run by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), whose operations have drawn strong international backlash in recent months amid near-daily reports of deadly shootings at their sites by Israeli soldiers and, occasionally, mercenary security guards from US contractors. Trump tasked Witkoff with preparing his own assessment of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the viability of the GHF as an aid distributor, according to US officials briefed on the matter.

Furthermore, Trump's aides reportedly discussed urging Israel to increase the amount of food and other supplies it allows into the Strip, so that enough of it reaches civilians, "even if Hamas steals some of it," as Israel claims has happened repeatedly.

The Gaza Health Ministry says more than 1,000 people have been killed by Israeli fire near Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites, although Israel says the number is exaggerated.

According to the report, Trump is not only motivated by humanitarian concerns in his quest to end the fighting, but also by frustration over his repeated failure to deliver on campaign promises, including peace in the Middle East. The US president has sought to build on the legacy of the Abraham Accords—which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states—he left behind in his first term and advance peace throughout the region.

In addition to his presidential aspirations, a growing number of Republican voters have grown disillusioned with the US-Israel alliance, with segments of Trump's base shifting toward a foreign policy less involved in foreign wars and less compliant with Netanyahu's war of extermination in Gaza.

Although the Republican Party remains strongly pro-Israel, some lawmakers, such as far-right Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene—who described Israel's war in Gaza as "genocide" earlier this month—are .

Trump and his associates fear angering some of his staunchest supporters, who have already expressed outrage over his administration's strike on Iran last June and its recent handling of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Trump was stunned when a number of lawmakers and influencers refused to accept his directive to stop fueling the Epstein controversy that had enveloped his White House. Now, Netanyahu's defiance has further divided Trump's base, frustrating the president by creating a new news cycle he cannot control.

An Israeli prisoner appeals from Gaza: Bring in food before I die of hunger.

"Please bring in food before I die of hunger. I am on the verge of death and living in hell," said captive Israeli soldier Rom Barslavsky in a letter to his government that the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, described as his last before losing contact with the group holding him captive in the Gaza Strip.

The Saraya broadcast a video of the 22-year-old Israeli prisoner, a resident of occupied Jerusalem, in which he appears in his place of captivity, weeping, tired, and exhausted, tossing and turning in his bed.

The video was titled "Gaza: Killing by Starvation," referring to the worsening humanitarian conditions in the Strip.

The prisoner confirmed that he has been held by the Al-Quds Brigades for approximately one year and nine months, noting that his suffering began following what he called the "Gideon's Wagons" operation.

Barslavsky described his deteriorating health condition, saying, "I'm not feeling well. I have pain in my feet and hands. Every time I try to get up and go to the bathroom, I feel dizzy and fall. I can't breathe and I can't continue living."

The prisoner revealed a significant decrease in the amount of food provided to him, asserting that "from morning until night there is nothing," and that he eats "only three falafel sandwiches throughout the day" or "barely a plate of rice."

"I simply don't eat or drink. There is no food here. Food is scarce and we can barely get it," he added, crying.

The prisoner spoke about watching children in Gaza on television, saying, "I saw children dying of hunger, skeletons. I've never seen anything like this before." He appealed to his government, "This is immoral. This is torture. This is torture of innocent children. What is their fault that you should do this to them?"

The prisoner begged the Israeli officials, saying, "Stop this hell we're living in. Stop this suffering. Please stop this war. Don't continue killing young children. Don't continue your campaign of starving them. These actions do not suit your conscience."

Barslavsky made a final appeal, saying, "If not for the children of Gaza, then do it for your prisoners in Gaza. Bring in food and drink. I beg your mercy."

The video showed images of the prisoner writing in his diary in Hebrew while crying, in addition to previous photos of him and children dying of hunger in Gaza.

The Al-Quds Brigades concluded the video with a clear message: "What our people are suffering is what your prisoners are suffering," linking the prisoners' suffering to the suffering of the Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Life imprisonment for a Swede for his role in the killing of a Jordanian pilot

A Swedish court on Thursday sentenced a Swedish suspect to life in prison for his role in the burning alive of Jordanian pilot Moaz al-Kasasbeh in a cage after he was captured by the Islamic State group in Syria in December 2014.

The Stockholm District Court in Sweden ruled that Swedish national Osama Karim had committed serious war crimes and terrorism for his role in the burning to death of a Jordanian Air Force pilot in Syria 10 years ago.

The court stated that Osama Karim was involved in the killing, even though evidence showed that the fire that killed al-Kasasbeh was set by another man.

"The defendant was present at the scene of al-Kasasbeh's execution, dressed in military uniform and armed, and agreed to be filmed. He contributed decisively to the victim's death and must be considered an accomplice in the execution," Judge Anna Lilienberg Golisio said in a statement issued by the Stockholm District Court.

Throughout the hearings, Osama Karim (32 years old) remained silent.

According to his lawyer, Karim acknowledged being at the site but insisted he only spent 15 to 20 minutes there and had no knowledge of what was about to happen.

For his part, Mikael Westerlund, the lawyer for the civil party in this case, said that Karim showed no sympathy or remorse in court for what he had done.

The pilot's brother traveled from Jordan to Sweden to attend the trial to testify about the pain he continues to share with his family and loved ones.

Under Swedish law, Swedish courts can try individuals for violations of international law committed abroad.

Family details

ISIS captured Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh, 26, after his F-16 crashed near Raqqa in northern Syria. He was caged and set on fire in early 2015, and a video was later released showing him being burned alive.

The organization controlled vast areas of Iraq and Syria from 2014 to 2017 before being defeated in its last stronghold in Syria in 2019.

The suspect, Karim, is reported to have traveled to Syria in September 2014 to fight alongside ISIS.

Swedish prosecutors indicted Karim last May on suspicion of committing serious war crimes and terrorist offenses in Syria. He had previously been convicted of involvement in the attacks in Paris in 2015 and Brussels in 2016 and was transferred from France to Sweden to stand trial in Stockholm.

Karim was among 20 people convicted in 2022 by a special terrorism court for their involvement in a wave of ISIS attacks in the French capital in 2015, targeting the Bataclan theater, cafes in Paris, and the national stadium. The attacks killed 130 people and injured hundreds.

Karim was sentenced to 30 years in prison on charges ranging from conspiracy to murder. French media reported that France agreed last March to extradite Karim to Sweden for investigation and trial.

In 2023, a Belgian court sentenced Karim and others to life imprisonment for murder in connection with the 2016 suicide bombings that killed 32 people and injured hundreds at Brussels Airport and a busy metro station, the deadliest attack in Belgium.

A young woman was injured by Israeli occupation forces' bullets in Tulkarm camp.

A young woman was shot by Israeli occupation forces on Thursday evening while she was near the Return Hall at the entrance to Tulkarm camp.

According to local sources, an 18-year-old woman was shot in the back after occupation snipers stationed in a military barracks in the camp fired live bullets at citizens. She was accompanied by her mother, brother, and a number of citizens on their way to inspect their homes inside the camp. She was transferred to the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital, and her condition was described as stable.

Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps are under a tight siege as the ongoing aggression against them and the city continues for the 186th consecutive day. The siege is being enforced amidst strict measures, including preventing residents from reaching their homes, pursuing them, and opening fire on them. Meanwhile, the occupation forces are sending military reinforcements to the city, patrolling the streets and neighborhoods with their vehicles, obstructing the movement of citizens and vehicles.

Israeli Foreign Minister Rejects Ben-Gvir's Statements Against Germany

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced on Thursday his rejection of extremist National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's statements attacking Germany.

In a post on the X platform, Sa'ar said: "I strongly reject Minister Ben-Gvir's statements regarding Germany. These statements are unnecessary and harmful. Germany is a friendly country, and its Foreign Minister (Yuval) Vadevoll is a friend of Israel."

"This does not change even when there are differences of opinion between us," he added.

Earlier Thursday, Ben-Gvir said on his Twitter page: "Eighty years after the Holocaust, Germany is back to supporting Nazism."

Ben-Gvir's attack on Germany came in response to a statement by German Foreign Minister Vadephul, who said that the recent UN conference on the two-state solution showed that "Israel increasingly finds itself in the minority."

On Tuesday evening, the final statement of the two-state solution conference at UN headquarters in New York, which was boycotted by Washington and Tel Aviv, called for Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and its handover to the Palestinian Authority.

The international conference also called for recognition of the State of Palestine and granting it full membership in the United Nations, replacing the status of "non-member observer state" that has existed since 2012.

According to the official Palestinian news agency (WAFA), 149 of the 193 member states of the United Nations recognize the State of Palestine, which was declared by the Palestinian leadership in exile in Algeria in 1988.

Recently, several countries, including France and Britain, have announced their intention to recognize the State of Palestine, and Australia has also threatened to take a similar step.

On Wednesday, 15 Western countries, including France and Spain, issued a collective call to recognize the State of Palestine and to cease fire in Gaza.

Israel and its ally, the United States, often criticize countries that announce their intention to recognize the State of Palestine, and the matter has even reached the point of American threats.

The movement to recognize the State of Palestine is escalating against the backdrop of a genocidal war waged by Israel, with US support, against Gaza since October 7, 2023, in defiance of all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

The genocide left more than 207,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands were displaced, and famine claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.

For decades, Israel has occupied Palestine and territories in Syria and Lebanon, and refuses to withdraw from these territories and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, along the pre-1967 borders.

The occupation launches a wave of raids on Hezbollah sites on the eve of Barak's deadline.

Israeli aircraft launched a series of continuous airstrikes on the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon on Thursday evening, marking an unprecedented escalation in weeks.

The raids came on the eve of the deadline given to Lebanon by US Special Envoy Tom Barak to secure a pledge from Hezbollah to disarm, and ahead of a government session scheduled to discuss the matter.

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that the Israeli army "attacked Hezbollah's largest precision-guided missile production site in Lebanon." He said, "The policy of imposing maximum sanctions against Hezbollah will continue. Any attempt by the party to rehabilitate itself will be met with uncompromising force." He also held the Lebanese government responsible for violating the ceasefire agreement. The Lebanese National News Agency reported that Israeli aircraft targeted several areas in southern Lebanon with at least six raids, and carried out at least five raids on the eastern mountain range.

The National News Agency reported five airstrikes on the eastern mountain range in the Bekaa Valley, targeting the outskirts of Brital, the town of Nasiriyah - Tallet el-Sandouk area, the Shaara area, and the shrine of the Prophet Ismail. Three airstrikes also targeted the outskirts of Aishiyeh, the birthplace of President Joseph Aoun, and the towns of Mahmoudiyah and Khardali in the south.

Israeli warplanes were seen flying intensively at low altitude over the Bekaa Valley.

This Israeli escalation came hours after statements by Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem, and hours after a speech by the Lebanese president in which he called on Hezbollah to hand over its weapons. On Wednesday, Qassem linked the discussion about Hezbollah's weapons to an Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories, launching an attack on anyone calling for this, saying, "Anyone demanding the handover of weapons today is demanding that they be handed over to Israel and serving the Israeli project."

Trump's envoy visits Israel as Gaza hunger crisis worsens and negotiations stall

US President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday to discuss the Israeli war on Gaza and the status of negotiations for a deal that would include a ceasefire and the release of Israeli prisoners, amid an unprecedented worsening of the famine crisis imposed by Israel on Gaza in this century.

Trump, Witkoff, and Netanyahu blamed "Hamas' intransigence" for the stalemate in the talks brokered by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt. According to US reports, the US envoy is expected to pressure Netanyahu to make concessions in the hope of putting the negotiations back on track.

After withdrawing their negotiators from talks in Qatar last week, Trump and Netanyahu vowed to explore new ways to return the 50 hostages still being held in Gaza, 20 of whom are believed to be still alive.

Among the possible options on the table is the annexation of parts of the devastated and devastated Gaza Strip, a move Israel claims President Trump has given the green light for, but one that would be difficult to reverse in the future. Under Israeli law, withdrawal from officially annexed territories requires either the support of 80 members of the Knesset or a national referendum, according to Israeli media.

According to the Hebrew news website Ynet, Witkoff is expected to make a rare visit to Gaza during his visit, and will visit aid distribution sites run by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which has been accused of using its four centers to kill Palestinians seeking aid.

It should be noted that this is Witkoff's second visit to Gaza this year, following his visit to the Netzarim Corridor area in the Strip in late January (following the start of the ceasefire that Netanyahu violated on March 18). He thus becomes the highest-ranking US official to visit the Strip in more than a decade.

Israel banned all aid from entering the Gaza Strip on March 2, and began allowing in a trickle of aid at the end of May, relying heavily on the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a global relief fund established to help starving Palestinians in Gaza. Israel has succeeded in doing so.

GHF sites have witnessed daily incidents in which Israeli occupation forces (IOF) soldiers opened fire on civilians in Gaza. The IDF justified this by claiming it was necessary to use force to control crowds. The Ministry of Health in Gaza says more than 1,000 people have been killed near GHF sites, while Israel claims the number is exaggerated.

On Thursday, President Trump delivered a stern message via Truth Social regarding Hamas and the remaining hostages to the escalating crisis in Gaza.

The US President wrote: "The fastest way to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is for Hamas to surrender and release the hostages!!!"

Trump's post marks a subtle shift in his message regarding the war and the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Recently, Trump appeared to hold Israel responsible, acknowledging that there was "real famine in Gaza," marking a rare break with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who delivered the exact opposite message.

Meanwhile, Trump said on Thursday that in order to end the ongoing hunger in Gaza, "the terrorist group Hamas must surrender and release the 50 hostages it is holding, 49 of whom were taken during the October 7, 2023, massacre that sparked the war in Gaza."

Netanyahu meets with Witkoff, and the fate of the negotiations and the starvation of Gaza are on the table.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is meeting with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff in West Jerusalem to discuss the fate of the negotiations on Gaza and the starvation of Palestinians in the enclave.

Netanyahu, who is wanted by international justice, wrote on Twitter on Thursday: "I am meeting now with US Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, Witkoff."

Later, his office said in a statement that the meeting would be held at Netanyahu's office in West Jerusalem.

Neither Netanyahu nor his office addressed the issues on the table at the meeting.

However, Channel 12 (private) reported earlier that Witkov arrived in Israel on Thursday to discuss two main issues: "the continued fighting in Gaza and the humanitarian situation in the Strip."

According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, released Wednesday, the death toll has reached 154 Palestinians, including 89 children, as a result of the ongoing Israeli starvation policy since October 7, 2023.

Since that day, Israel has waged a war of genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international calls and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.

The US-backed genocide left more than 207,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and a famine that claimed the lives of many.

The channel added: "The dilemma facing Israel's political and security leadership is intensifying with the difficult images emerging from Gaza," referring to the victims of Israel's systematic starvation policy.

"A decision must be made between moving towards a ceasefire deal and releasing the abductees (prisoners) or expanding combat operations to include the occupation and annexation of parts of the Gaza Strip," according to the channel.

Tel Aviv estimates there are 50 Israeli prisoners in Gaza, 20 of whom are still alive. Meanwhile, more than 10,800 Palestinians are languishing in its prisons, suffering torture, starvation, and medical neglect, many of whom have died, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.

Days ago, Israel withdrew from indirect negotiations with Hamas in Qatar due to Tel Aviv's intransigence on the withdrawal from Gaza, ending the war, Palestinian prisoners, and the aid distribution mechanism.

The channel added, "The second and most prominent reason for Witkoff's visit is the disturbing images emerging from Gaza and the intense international pressure on Israel to provide extensive humanitarian aid to the Strip's residents."

Witkoff is expected to visit one of the aid distribution centers of the American Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in the Gaza Strip, according to the channel.

She added that the visit to the center aims to "gaze up close at hand at the difficult humanitarian situation in Gaza, especially the hunger that has spread to many areas."

Palestinians assert that the aid distribution mechanism through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which has been ongoing since May 27 with Israeli support, aims to gather them and force them to leave their lands, paving the way for the reoccupation of Gaza.

Since the launch of this mechanism, 1,239 Palestinian deaths and more than 8,152 injuries have been reported to hospitals, as a result of repeated Israeli army fire on Palestinians waiting for aid, according to the Ministry of Health.

The channel added that "Wittkopf's need to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza stems not only from concern for the Palestinians in the Strip, but also from growing popular and political pressure in the United States."

On Sunday, the Israeli military announced its "authorization" of limited airdrops of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the initiation of what it called a "tactical suspension of military activities" in specific areas of Gaza to allow the passage of aid.

International organizations considered Israel's move to be "promoting the illusion of aid" and "media deception," as its army continues to use starvation as a weapon against Palestinian civilians by closing the crossings to aid since last March.

Dozens of families of Israeli prisoners demonstrated outside Netanyahu's office on Thursday, demanding an immediate agreement to return their loved ones from Gaza.

At the demonstration, the families of the prisoners called on Witkov to pressure Netanyahu to conclude an agreement.

Hamas has repeatedly declared its willingness to release Israeli prisoners "in one batch" in exchange for an end to the war of extermination, the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

But Netanyahu is evading the situation by proposing new conditions, including the disarmament of Palestinian factions, and is currently insisting on reoccupying Gaza.

The opposition and the families of the prisoners assert that he is continuing the war to maintain his position, fearing the collapse of his government if the most extremist faction, which refuses to end the war, withdraws.

For decades, Israel has occupied Palestine and territories in Syria and Lebanon, and refuses to withdraw from these territories and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, along the pre-1967 borders.

111 dead in 24 hours, and the Gaza Interior Ministry confirms that the occupation is sponsoring aid thieves.

A medical source in Gaza reported that hospitals in the Strip received 111 dead over the past 24 hours as a result of Israeli military fire, particularly targeting aid recipients. Meanwhile, the Gaza Interior Ministry held the occupation responsible for spreading chaos and sponsoring networks of thieves to seize control of aid trucks.

Sources in Gaza hospitals reported that 41 Palestinians were killed by Israeli army fire since dawn on Thursday, including 19 aid recipients.

Two medical sources at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital and Al-Awda Hospital had previously confirmed that 15 Palestinians were killed and others injured when Israeli forces opened fire on a gathering of people waiting for aid near the Netzarim junction in the central Gaza Strip.

Palestinians also buried the bodies of more than 70 dead killed in a bloody massacre perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces against those waiting for humanitarian aid in the Sudaniya area in northern Gaza. Medical sources confirmed that the massacre also left more than 600 people injured, most of them in critical condition.

Today, Dr. Khalil Al-Daqran, spokesman for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, explained to Al Jazeera that hospitals are suffering from a severe shortage of medical equipment and supplies, and are receiving numerous cases of malnutrition daily amid deteriorating health and humanitarian conditions.

He added that the Israeli occupation continues to bring in aid through unsafe corridors, while the quantities reaching the Strip only meet a small portion of the growing needs.

Dr. Al-Daqran pointed out that bandits are seizing aid destined for Gaza, further complicating the humanitarian situation. He emphasized that the famine afflicting the Strip is a direct result of the Israeli occupation's practices.

In turn, Dr. Mohammed Abu Afash, director of the Medical Relief Organization in Gaza, confirmed that the occupation's massacres in the Strip are daily and relentless, and that hospitals are overflowing with the wounded. In statements to Al Jazeera, the director of the Medical Relief Organization in Gaza said, "We call on US envoy Steve Witkoff to visit the Strip's hospitals and assess the dire conditions."

For his part, Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal told Al Jazeera that a large number of aid seekers are dying as a result of direct Israeli targeting. He noted that the current method of delivering aid is impractical, emphasizing that famine is spreading daily in the Gaza Strip.

Targeting and spreading chaos

For its part, the Ministry of Interior in Gaza accused the occupation of pursuing a systematic policy of targeting security personnel tasked with securing international aid trucks, with the aim of preventing them from reaching those in need and maintaining a state of chaos.

The ministry said the occupation bears responsibility for spreading chaos and fostering networks of thieves and thugs to seize control of aid. It also works to thwart all efforts aimed at restoring order, regardless of the party behind them.

The Ministry of Interior called on the international community to pressure the occupation to stop targeting civilian personnel tasked with securing the aid trucks' routes and ensuring their safe delivery to those in need.

Today, civil society organizations in the Gaza Strip called for the prosecution of the so-called "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation," accusing it of playing a dangerous role in facilitating the war of extermination.

In their statement, the organizations said that the American organization, which operates under a humanitarian and relief cover, is implicated in the killing of more than 1,500 Palestinian aid seekers. They noted that food distribution centers in areas classified as "red" have been transformed into "death and detention camps."

Since the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation took over aid distribution last May, more than 800 Palestinians have been killed and thousands more injured by Israeli forces and contractors operating around designated centers.

International and UN calls have recently intensified following a significant increase in the number of starving Palestinian martyrs killed in "death traps" at aid distribution points run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which is backed by the United States and Israel.

This comes as Israel, with US support, continues its genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 205,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands displaced.

Haaretz: 7 Israeli soldiers committed suicide this July

The number of Israeli soldiers who committed suicide this July has risen to seven, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

Israeli Army Radio reported that an Israeli soldier from Netanya committed suicide after serving in the reserves for more than 300 days.

The radio station quoted his family as saying that the soldier had participated in transporting the bodies of other soldiers and wounded during the war, and had been subjected to gruesome scenes, according to the station. The radio station also reported that the army was shirking its responsibility and refusing to recognize the soldier as a military casualty.

Earlier, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the suicide rate among Israeli soldiers on active duty in the army is rising compared to previous years.

According to the newspaper, at least 15 Israeli soldiers have taken their own lives since the beginning of 2025, while 21 soldiers committed suicide during the previous year, 2024.

The newspaper pointed out that the majority of the soldiers who committed suicide were reserve forces on active duty.

Haaretz quoted Israeli military sources as saying that a large percentage of the soldiers who committed suicide had experienced combat situations that significantly affected their psychological state.

Israeli media reported that 48 Israeli soldiers have committed suicide since October 7, 2023, following the start of Israel's war of extermination on the Gaza Strip.

Egypt stresses the need to reach a "permanent" ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

Egypt stressed on Thursday the need to reach a "permanent" ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

This came during a meeting between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty and his US counterpart Marco Rubio, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Abdel-Ati began an indefinite visit to Washington, during which he will meet with US officials.

On Monday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in a televised address, called on his US counterpart, Donald Trump, to halt the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and allow aid into the territory, which is suffering from famine amid a US-backed war of extermination that has been ongoing since October 7, 2023.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, "An extensive discussion took place between Abdel Aati and Rubio regarding the successive regional developments, most notably the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, the tragic developments in Sudan, as well as the situations in Libya, Syria, and Lebanon, the issue of Egyptian water security, and the situation in the African continent."

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Minister Abdel-Ati reiterated the "need to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza."

He stressed the "need to spare the blood of the Palestinian people and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, given the catastrophic conditions it is suffering as a result of a systematic Israeli policy of starvation, and the importance of quickly addressing this urgent humanitarian crisis."

Since the genocide began on October 7, 2023, Israel has been simultaneously committing a starvation crime against the Palestinians of Gaza. On March 2, it tightened its measures by closing all crossings to humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, causing famine to spread and reaching "catastrophic" levels.

The US-backed genocide left more than 207,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and a famine that claimed the lives of many.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdel-Ati and Rubio discussed "the situation in Sudan and the importance of reaching a ceasefire (which has been in place since April 2023) and the provision of aid."

Abdel-Ati affirmed his country's "supportive stance toward Sudanese state institutions and the need to respect the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Sudan."

Since April 15, 2023, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been waging a war that has resulted in the deaths of more than 20,000 people and the displacement of approximately 15 million, according to UN and local authorities. A study by American universities put the death toll at approximately 130,000.

Regarding Egypt's water security, Abdel-Ati emphasized the "necessity of cooperation based on quickly reaching a binding legal agreement governing the operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam."

He stressed his "rejection of unilateral Ethiopian measures that violate international law," affirming that "Egypt will take all measures guaranteed by international law to protect its water security."

For years, Cairo and Khartoum have been demanding that a legally binding tripartite agreement be reached first regarding the filling and operation of the dam, whose construction began in 2011, particularly during times of drought, to ensure the continued flow of their respective shares of Nile water.

Addis Ababa rejects this, arguing that the dam is essential to development efforts, particularly through electricity generation, and will not harm the interests of any other country. This led to a three-year freeze in negotiations, before they resumed in 2023 and were frozen again in 2024.

Egypt's foreign minister also met in Washington with members of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Ted Cruz and Chris Coons, according to separate statements from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

During the two meetings, Abdel-Ati discussed "developments in the Gaza Strip, Egypt's tireless efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement, and developments in several flashpoints in the region, including Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, the Iranian nuclear file, and the Ethiopian dam."

German Foreign Minister: The two-state solution is the only way to resolve the conflict sustainably.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Thursday that Germany is convinced that a negotiated two-state solution remains the only way for both sides to live in peace, security, and dignity, and to achieve a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

He added in a press statement: "For Germany, recognition of a Palestinian state is likely to come at the end of the negotiation process, but such a process must begin now. Germany will not deviate from this goal and will also be forced to respond to unilateral steps."

Vadephul explained that the UN conference in New York showed that Israel increasingly finds itself in a minority position, and given the public threats of annexation by some members of the Israeli government, a significantly increasing number of countries, including European ones, are prepared to recognize a Palestinian state, even without a prior negotiation process. The region and the Middle East peace process are at a crossroads, and Germany, in light of its special responsibility towards Israel, cannot and must not remain aloof from this issue.

He said that the death toll and suffering in the Gaza Strip have reached unimaginable proportions. At the same time, Israel must provide immediate, comprehensive, and sustainable relief in light of the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip. Germany remains fully prepared to provide support to alleviate the suffering.

He continued that given the extremely tragic situation, airdropping relief supplies, in which Germany will participate in the coming days, is also a means of quickly delivering urgent relief supplies to those in need. However, at the same time, intensive work must continue to rebuild the existing humanitarian land route, which airdrops cannot replace, as relief supplies can only reach people in sufficient quantities by land.

He urged the Israeli government to allow the United Nations and international relief agencies safe access, and most importantly, safe and effective distribution.

The occupation forces deported the last two activists from the "Hanthala" ship after detaining them.

Israeli authorities deported the last two activists detained by the Israeli occupation authorities after the interception of the "Handala" ship on Thursday. They are Christian Daniel Smalls from the United States and Hatem Al-Aouini from Tunisia, according to the Adalah Center for Human Rights in Palestine.

The two activists left via a crossing into Jordan, where the Tunisian embassy received Al-Aouini. The center explained that the two activists spent "five days in illegal detention and an open-ended hunger strike," stressing that "there are no activists remaining in the hands of the Israeli authorities."

This completes the deportation of all activists who participated in the "Hanthala" ship voyage, which departed from Italy on July 21, 2025, as part of the "Freedom Flotilla" to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, carrying medical and food aid.

The Israeli military intercepted the ship at sea on July 26, "contrary to international humanitarian law," and took it to the port of Ashdod, where the activists were "illegally detained," according to Adalah's statement.

The center noted that its legal team monitored the arrests from the outset, provided legal representation to the activists, and visited those remaining in prison "daily," amid what it described as "repeated attempts by Israeli authorities to impose arbitrary conditions for deportation and to impose restrictions on the prison population."

Adalah emphasized that the activists' initiative is based on "the principles of justice, international law, and human rights," and that Israel's interception of the Hanthala ship in international waters "constitutes a flagrant violation of these principles and contributes to the continuation of the illegal blockade on Gaza," which it described as "the deliberate starvation of Palestinians amidst the ongoing genocide that has been going on for 22 months."
