England Cup: United striker Martial misses the final against City due to injury
French international striker Anthony Martial will be absent from the ranks of his team, Manchester United, to face arch-rivals City, the league champion, in the final of the FA Cup, due to a tendon injury in his knee, according to the “Red Devils” club.
“The French international injured his hamstring late in the match in the 2-1 win over Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday,” United announced in a statement on Tuesday evening, in the final 38th round of the English Premier League.
And he continued, “Tests revealed a muscle tear that will prevent the 27-year-old from playing at Wembley” this weekend.
Despite suffering from frequent injuries, Martial scored 9 goals in 29 games this season.
Martial, who only played in 11 of the 21 league matches, hoped to be in the starting line-up for United in the cup final at the famous Wembley Stadium in London, facing City, seeking to achieve a historic treble (League-Cup-Champions League).
United finished the Premier League competitions in third place, qualifying for the Champions League competition next season, while City won the title for the third season in a row and for the ninth time in its history.
