Manchester United ensured its return to participate in the European Football Champions League next season, after its victory over the injured Chelsea 4-1 in a postponed match from the 32nd stage of the English Premier League, Thursday, at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils team needed one point to confirm its qualification to the Champions League, accompanied by Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle. Indeed, its three points contributed to its advancement to third place with 72 points, ahead of Newcastle IV (70).

United ended any remaining hopes for Liverpool to qualify for the European competition, the mother of the season, as the Reds trailed it by six points in fifth place, one stage from the end.

Dutch coach Eric Ten Hag's team made a rocket start after Brazilian Casemiro opened the scoring (6), before Frenchman Anthony Martial doubled his team's lead before the two-half break (45 + 5). Portuguese Bruno Fernandes increased his team's yield with a third goal (73 penalty kicks), before substitute Marcus Rashford concluded United's goal festival (78). The goal for Chelsea was scored by the Portuguese orphan Joao Felix (89).

Chelsea is facing a difficult season, as it presents its worst performance since the 1993-94 season, when the Premier League finished in fourteenth place. The Blues are in twelfth place with 43 points.

And while United entered the meeting after beating Bournemouth 1-0 in the 37th stage, Chelsea, led by former player Frank Lampard, was suffering another loss against City, who was crowned champions of the English Premier League, 1-0.

And United can celebrate the return to participate in the Champions League, which it missed this season, in favor of its participation in the Europa League competition, which it left in the quarter-finals with a disappointing loss to Seville.
