The Diplomatic Adviser to the President, Dr. Majdi Al-Khalidi, praised the outcomes of the Arab Summit in its 32nd session, which was held last Friday in the city of Jeddah.
Al-Khalidi explained that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's leadership of the summit was crowned with great success in terms of organization, content and decisions that form a road map in dealing with Arab challenges and crises, especially the Palestinian issue, which confirmed that it is the central Arab issue of priority.
Al-Khalidi said: “The summit adopted in its closing statement the concept and definition of the Palestinian Nakba, which constituted the largest ethnic cleansing process witnessed in the twentieth century. 70 massacres of Palestinians, 51 of which were documented.
Al-Khalidi affirmed that the summit adopted the Palestinian position, which condemns and criminalizes those who deny the Palestinian Nakba, and said that the Arab foreign ministers, in their lengthy meeting before the summit convened last Thursday, unanimously approved what came in the final decisions adopted by the leaders, including Palestine's decisions regarding the latest developments of the Palestinian cause and regarding the Nakba. And its devastating consequences for our Palestinian people. According to official statistics, the number of Palestinians living in Palestine and in the diaspora around the world reached 14.5 million at the end of 2021, which means that the number of Palestinians has increased about 10 times since the Nakba of 1948.
He said that the adoption of the commemoration of the Nakba annually in the United Nations, in the Arab world and internationally by the Arab countries, is a prelude to its adoption by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement countries as a prelude to its adoption at the level of the United Nations General Assembly in its next session, and that this is extremely important to remind the world of the only people Who is still under occupation despite being subjected to displacement and massacres, adding that the Palestinian people are still commemorating the memory, at home in the West Bank, Gaza, Jerusalem and the refugee camps in the diaspora, by holding activities in which our people renew their attachment to the land and the right of return, to remain in the memory of successive generations, until the full restoration of rights And liberating the land from the occupation, and in response to the occupation leaders who raise the slogan "The old are dying and the young are forgotten.
Dr. Al-Khalidi expressed his confidence that the outcomes of the Jeddah Summit constitute an important turning point in strengthening the mechanisms of joint Arab action at all levels, especially since the current conditions the world is witnessing and the crises the Arab region suffers from require the adoption of a different view and a new approach to enhance joint Arab action. This is what the Jeddah summit has worked on, through many decisions that affect the lives of the Arab citizen and our Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
Al-Khalidi drew attention to the serious preparations that preceded the summit and the tireless efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to provide it with all success factors in the preparatory meetings before the summit to transfer its presidency from Algeria to Saudi Arabia, the League meetings, and then the meetings of Arab foreign ministers.
He emphasized the pioneering role and vision adopted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman, in order to strengthen joint Arab action, as well as the relentless efforts to enhance Arab cooperation and solidarity, which represents support for joint Arab efforts at all levels. all.
Al-Khalidi said that the summit was fruitful and emphasized the centrality of the Palestinian issue in the Arab world and the Arab initiative as a way to solve it, and the importance of intensifying efforts to reach a just settlement of the Palestinian issue, by ending the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, stressing the importance of political solutions in both Sudan and Yemen. Continue to intensify Arab efforts to assist Syria and its return to the Arab League, while remaining unified.
And he added: "The Arab leaders affirmed in the statement that I adopted (the centrality of the Palestinian cause to our countries as one of the main factors of stability in the region, and we condemn in the strongest terms the practices and violations that target the Palestinians in their lives, property, and all their existence). The statement was strong and expressive of the status of the Palestinian cause despite the occupation's bet on The status of the issue declined in the Arab world, and the opposite came about by sticking and insisting on the centrality of the Palestinian issue and that it is the first Arab issue, despite the special and internal problems that these countries are exposed to in each country.
Al-Khalidi stated that the Arab leaders adhered to the Arab and Palestinian position on the Arab Peace Initiative, stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to reach a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian issue, and finding a real horizon for achieving peace on the basis of the two-state solution in accordance with international references, especially the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions and principles of international law, including It guarantees the embodiment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the Palestinian lands within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This is a revival of the common Arab position and vision.
He pointed out that the Jeddah Summit clearly and explicitly called on the international community, especially the United States, to assume its responsibilities to end the occupation, and stop the repeated aggressions and violations that would obstruct the paths of political solutions and undermine international peace efforts.
The summit stressed the need to continue efforts to protect the occupied city of Jerusalem and its sanctities in the face of the condemnable efforts of the Israeli occupation to change its demography, identity, and historical and legal status in it, including by supporting the historical Hashemite guardianship to protect Islamic and Christian sanctities and the management of the Jerusalem Endowments and Al-Aqsa Affairs of the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments in its capacity It has the exclusive authority, as well as the role of the Jerusalem Committee and the Jerusalem House of Money.
Al-Khalidi said, “We appreciate the keenness and interest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to provide appropriate conditions for achieving stability and economic growth in the region, especially with regard to sustainable development in its cultural, environmental, social and economic dimensions, and its work during the year of the Kingdom’s presidency of the Arab Summit (32) on a number of initiatives that would contribute to advancing Joint Arab action in the cultural, economic, social and environmental fields.
Regarding the outputs of the “Jeddah Declaration,” Al-Khalidi said: “It came as a continuation of the implementation of the roadmap of the “Algeria Declaration” (the Arab summit in Algeria - November 2022), which confirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, and stressed the strengthening of joint Arab action, and the need to contribute to resolving the crises that are going through. It has some Arab countries, in addition to its focus on the Sudanese crisis and the return of Syria to the university in the presence of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
He added: The document declared for the outcomes of the Arab summit at the level of its leaders included 12 items, to complement the efforts made by Algeria at its summit late last year, with the aim of "re-establishing Arab reunification and achieving Arab consensus on the most important Arab issues." He added that the "Jeddah Declaration" stressed on Stopping foreign interference in Arab internal affairs,” and “respecting the values and cultures of others, and respecting the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states.”
Al-Khalidi praised the firm Saudi position and said that these Saudi positions on Palestine and the central issue of Muslims and Arabs go back to early periods, since the era of the founding King Abdul Aziz, when Saudi Arabia and its brotherly people did not skimp on Palestine and the people of Palestine, not only with money, but also with men and the defense of Palestine.
