IDF: Woman and her son killed in Gaza Envelope on October 7 by our forces
An Israeli military investigation has shown that Tomer and Dikla Ariva from Kibbutz Nahal Oz in the Gaza Envelope were killed on October 7, 2023 by IDF fire, the army said in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, their presence was documented during the Hamas incursion into Kibbutz Naha Oz and their entry into their home, "and they snatched Dikla's mobile phone and played a video clip on Facebook Live, during which the family members were filmed inside their home."
The statement added that the video clip, which was broadcast live to the entire country, is one of the most famous videos filmed during the October 7 attack in Nahal Oz.
The video shows Tomer walking around with Hamas members in the neighboring houses in the kibbutz, and calling on the neighbors to leave their homes, on the orders of Hamas members.
The Israeli army statement continued that according to the military investigation, Tomer managed to escape from Hamas elements and hide in the kibbutz. Minutes later, an Israeli army force arrived and engaged in fierce fighting in the kibbutz, spotted him as a suspicious person, and shot and killed him.
The military investigation says that Tomer "was apparently killed by our forces' fire due to a mistaken identification."
According to the investigation, while the vehicle was heading to the Gaza Strip, an Israeli army force fired at the rear of the vehicle, and Dikla was hit and killed. After the shooting, Hamas members left the vehicle in the kibbutz and kept Dikla's body inside.
The statement added that the military investigation was presented to the family in an unusual manner, and before the full investigation into the battle in Kibbutz Nahal Oz was reviewed.
