Sociedad spoils the joys of Barcelona and Villarreal keeps its hopes in the Champions League

Real Sociedad spoiled Barcelona's joy by celebrating its victory in the Spanish Football League title in front of its fans at its "Camp Nou" stadium, by defeating it 2-1 on Saturday in the thirty-fifth stage.

Barcelona wished to celebrate the 27th title in its history and the first since 2019 after the departure of its Argentine star, Lionel Messi, to Paris Saint-Germain, France, in the summer of 2021, and the first for its coach, former midfielder Xavi Hernandez, but he suffered his first loss at home in the league this season.

It is only the second victory for Sociedad in its last 17 league matches against Barcelona (two draws and 13 defeats), after its victory on April 9, 2016, with a score of 1-0.

Nor did the Basque club, which strengthened its chances of a seat in the Champions League competition, after raising its tally to 65 points in fourth place, did not lose during its last six matches, achieving 4 wins against two draws.

And the Norwegian international striker, Alexander Sorloth, imposed himself as a star, as he contributed to his team opening the scoring 5 minutes after the whistle at the start of the first half, after a mistake by French defender Jules Conde, who took advantage of it to the fullest, as he advanced into the area and passed a back ball to Mikel Merino, who hit it on the floor to the left of German goalkeeper Mark. Andre ter Stegen.

Sorloth added the second goal for his team and his 11th personal this season in 31 matches in the "La Liga" after a pass from Martin Subimendi after he snatched the ball from Dutchman Frenkie de Jong (71).

Barcelona narrowed the difference with the header of the Polish top scorer, Robert Lewandowski, with 22 goals, after a cross from substitute Ferran Torres (90).

Substitute Gerard Moreno led his team, Villarreal, to a fatal victory at Girona, 2-1, and maintained his hopes of reserving a seat in the Champions League next season.

The “Yellow Submarines” team opened the scoring through Jeremy Pino, following a pass from Senegalese Nicholas Jackson 9 minutes after the first whistle, and Girona equalized thanks to David Lopes (24).

Jackson shone again after kicking off the ball on the left side and passed it to Moreno, who entered the field in the 62nd minute in place of Nigerian Samuel Chukwueze, and he followed it into the net in the fourth minute of stoppage time for the second half.
Moreno, 31, is struggling to regain his form and fitness after returning from injury.

Villarreal raised its score to 60 points in fifth place, 5 points behind Real Sociedad, who finished in the last fourth place, qualifying for the main continental competition, 3 stages before the end.

Girona froze at 48 points in seventh place.

Jackson said after the end of the match, speaking of the expected confrontation with Real Sociedad, "We want him to lose, I hope he loses, and this is what we want, so we will watch the match."

Athletic Bilbao beat Celta Vigo 2-1.

Bilbao advanced through Ghanaian Inaki Williams (5), and Celta equalized thanks to the Norwegian Jurgen Strand Larsen (50), before Alejandro Remero scored after 4 minutes the three-point goal for the owners of the land.

Bilbao advanced to seventh place with 50 points, and Celta's balance froze at 39 points in thirteenth place.
Getafe failed to move further from the relegation zone by drawing 1-1 at Elche.
Getafe raised its tally to 35 points in the seventeenth place, equal to Valladolid, the last two relegated, who lost to Cadiz 0-2 on Friday at the opening stage.
And the young Brazilian striker Lazaro Marques (21 years old) imposed himself as a star for his team, Almeria, by scoring a hat-trick against Real Mallorca in the 12th, 42nd and 58th minutes.
