Spanish Championship: Barcelona supporters celebrate their team winning the local title
Barcelona supporters took to the streets on Monday, to celebrate their club being crowned champions of the Spanish Football League in the men's and women's categories.
Coach Xavi Hernandez's battalion defeated Espanyol on Sunday 4-2 to win the domestic league title for the twenty-seventh time in its history and the first since 2019, while the women's team won the league championship for the fourth time in a row at the end of April.
Some fans chanted the name of Lionel Messi, who will leave the ranks of his current team, Paris Saint-Germain, at the end of the season, hoping that Barcelona will be able to return him to his “home” this summer, at the age of 36.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed Monday that he would do "everything in his power" to bring the Argentine star back to the club.
The players, seated on two open-top buses, moved from the Camp Nou to the city's Arc de Triomphe, eight kilometers away, between two rows of cheering fans.
The players wore T-shirts bearing the slogan "The Spanish League is ours, the future too." "It is an honor to share this (with the fans) and bring them closer than ever," German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen told the club's network.
