"Statistics": the cost of living index increased by 0.63% last month

The Central Bureau of Statistics reported that consumer prices in the Palestinian Territory increased by 0.63% during the month of April, compared to the previous month.


In a report it issued today, Sunday, about the cost of living table in the Palestinian territories, for the month of April, the Agency attributed the reason to the increase in the prices of fresh chicken by 10.65%, the prices of fresh meat by 2.62%, the prices of potatoes by 2.58%, and the prices of fresh fruits by 1.72%. Despite the decrease in the prices of eggs by 5.95%, and the prices of dried vegetables by 5.73%.


He noted that the rise in the prices of some basic commodities had the greatest impact on the rise in this indicator, as the prices of the following commodities rose to average; Chicken 19 shekels/kg, veal 53 shekels/kg, lamb 88 shekels/kg, potatoes 3 shekels/kg, avocado 9 shekels/kg, and strawberries 12 shekels/kg, despite the decrease in the average price of the following commodities, reaching an average of: Eggs are 19 shekels/2 kg, and onions are 4 shekels/kg.


When comparing prices during last April with April 2022, the data indicates an increase in the consumer price index in Palestine by 3.86% (by 4.61% in the West Bank, by 4.24% in Jerusalem, and by 1.25% in the Gaza Strip).


The consumer price index in the West Bank recorded an increase of 0.75% during the observed month, and this is due to the increase in the prices of fresh chicken by 14.38%, the prices of fresh meat by 2.92%, and the prices of fresh fruits by 1.61%, despite the decrease in the prices of eggs by 8.31%. The prices of liquid fuels used as fuel for "diesel" cars decreased by 2.20%, the prices of dried vegetables increased by 1.80%, the prices of fresh vegetables increased by 1.39%, the prices of gas increased by 1.34%, and the prices of electricity increased by 1.01%.


The prices of the following commodities rose in the West Bank, reaching an average; Chicken 20 shekels/kg, veal 53 shekels/kg, lamb 87 shekels/kg, avocado 11 shekels/kg, and strawberries 13 shekels/kg, despite the decrease in the average price of the following commodities, reaching an average of: Eggs 20 shekels/2 kg, diesel 6.02 shekels/liter, onions 6 shekels/kg, broad green beans 12 shekels/kg, eggplant 4 shekels/kg, green house cucumbers 5 shekels/kg, and a gas cylinder 74 shekels/12 kg.


High cost of living index in Jerusalem:


The consumer price index in Jerusalem recorded an increase of 0.56% in 2023, as a result of an increase in the prices of fresh vegetables by 15.32%, the prices of fresh fruits by 5.59%, the prices of potatoes by 4.66%, the prices of eggs by 3.93%, and the prices of fresh chicken by 1.64%. From the decrease in the prices of dried vegetables by 5.97%.


The prices of the following commodities increased in Jerusalem, reaching an average; Greenhouse tomatoes, eggplant, cauliflower, and cabbage 8 shekels/kg each, oranges and potatoes 5 shekels/kg each, pears 12 shekels/kg, avocados and strawberries 10 shekels/kg each, eggs 33 shekels/2 kg, and chicken 23 shekels/kg. Despite the decrease in the average price of onions, reaching 6 shekels/kg.


High cost of living index in the Gaza Strip:


The consumer price index in the Gaza Strip increased by 0.28% during April 2023 compared to March 2023. This is due to the increase in the price of potatoes by 7.49%, the price of fresh meat by 4.45%, the price of fresh chicken by 1.91%, and the price of rice by 1.45. %, and the prices of fresh fruits by 0.67%, despite the decrease in the prices of dried vegetables by 11.89%, the prices of eggs by 3.60%, the prices of fresh vegetables by 2.58%, and the prices of fresh, chilled or frozen live fish by 1.61%.


The prices of the following commodities in the Gaza Strip rose to average; Potatoes 2 shekels/kg, veal 44 shekels/kg, chicken 16 shekels/kg, and long-grain rice 35 shekels/5kg, despite the decrease in the average price of the following commodities, reaching an average of: Onions and cucumbers are greenhouses, Ajami eggplant 2 shekels/kg each, eggs 15 shekels/2kg, green hot pepper 7 shekels/kg.
