Premier League Championship: Arsenal continues to put pressure on Man City

Arsenal continued its pressure on leaders Manchester City and revived its hopes of winning its first title since 2004 when it returned with a valuable victory from its host, Newcastle, with a clean double, Sunday, at St. James Park, in front of 50,267 spectators, in the thirty-fifth stage of the England Football Championship.

Norwegian captain Martin Odegaard (14) and Swiss defender Fabian Schar (71 fouls in his team's own goal) scored the two goals.
Arsenal strengthened its ranks with its second successive victory, and its 25th this season, with 81 points, bringing the difference back to one point between it and leaders Manchester City, who beat Leeds United 2-1 on Saturday.

City has a postponed match against Brighton, which will take place on May 24.

On the other hand, Newcastle suffered only its fifth loss this season and the second at home after the first against Liverpool 0-2 also on February 18, so its score froze at 65 points in third place.

Manchester United failed to take advantage of Arsenal's gift and snatch third place from Newcastle, losing to West Ham 1-0 due to a fatal mistake by Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea.

The loss of Newcastle and United, whose score was frozen at 63 points, ignited the struggle over the last two cards that qualified for the Champions League, as the chances of Liverpool V (62 points) and Brighton VII (55 points with three games less) strengthened in their competition for it, even if the “Reds” played more than one match. The Magpies and the Red Devils.

Arsenal returned the debt to Newcastle with the same result that defeated him last year at the same stadium in the penultimate 37th stage, which cost him absence from the Champions League competition this season.

"It's a big step for a young team like ours to come here and do the things we've done. It shows we've come a long way," Odegaard said.

He added, "After losing points against Manchester City, winning against Chelsea and then coming here and winning shows our mentality. We have to continue, fight and fight until the end. It's football, anything can happen and we need to be ready."

His Spanish coach, Mikel Arteta, said, "It is a well-deserved victory. It was a great match, and our team enjoyed high quality and we did everything we could to achieve the result." Newcastle coach Eddie Howe said, "I think it is a disappointment because we did not achieve the desired result, nor did we do the best." Our levels and we have to think about what's next."

Newcastle started the match with strong pressure and almost did it from the first opportunity when Jacob Murphy received a ball from the Swedish international Alexander Isaacs, so he prepared it for himself inside the area and hit it hard with his left, which bounced off the right post (1).

Isaac hit a powerful ball, which defender Ben White pushed into a corner (3).

Odegaard quelled the outburst of the landowners when he succeeded in opening the scoring, contrary to the course of the game, after receiving a ball from the Italian international, Jorginho, outside the area.

Arsenal almost added the second goal through Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli when he received a ball inside the area, so he singled out goalkeeper Bob and hit it at the latter’s foot, so he prepared in front of Odegaard, who hit it hard with his left from a difficult angle, which the goalkeeper pushed to a corner that did not bear fruit (20).

The other Brazilian, Gabriel Jesús, hit a powerful ball from inside the area, which Bob sent to a corner (70).

Arsenal dealt the final blow to Newcastle when Martinelli received a ball from Jesus in the middle of the field, so he went off and penetrated into the area from the left side and passed it crossly, which hit the foot of defender Shar and turned into his team's goal (71).
And Newcastle continued his pressure in search of at least reducing the difference, but to no avail.

Manchester United continued to bleed points after losing 0-1 to Brighton on Thursday, and suffered its second consecutive and ninth defeat this season, while West Ham largely ensured its survival after moving seven points away from the eighteenth Nottingham Forest, the last places leading to the second division.

And West Ham achieved its first victory in its last four matches at home, and its Scottish coach, David Moyes, succeeded in breaking the jinx that required him against his former team, United, who supervised his training in 2013, when he beat him for the first time in 11 games (two draws and eight defeats).

Algerian international striker Said Benrahma scored the winning goal with a weak creeping shot from outside the area, which De Gea missed, although it was within reach (27).

Fabianski continued his brilliance by deflecting a shot by Marcus Rashford from close range (77), and Martial penetrated into the area and hit a powerful ball, which Fabianski pushed into a corner (90 + 1).
