Warnings of new settlement plans in the village of Beit Sira

For about a month, the Israeli occupation forces have continued to close the military checkpoint established at the entrance to the village of Beit Sira, west of Ramallah, in front of vehicles, preventing them from accessing Street 443, which leads to Jerusalem and the interior, amidst restrictions that are the first of their kind in 13 years, which means tightening the screws on the people. While officials warn that these measures are a prelude to the implementation of settlement occupation plans in the region.

The occupation forces had closed Road (443) and prevented the residents from accessing it, about a year after the second intifada, and after suffering, a complaint was filed before the Israeli Supreme Court of Justice, which ruled in 2010 that the residents should find alternatives. Military checkpoints have been established at the entrances of seven villages and towns that benefit from the road, located west of Ramallah, namely: "Safa, Beit Sira, Beit Liqia, Beit Ur al-Fauqa, Beit Ur al-Tahta, Kharbatha al-Misbah, and al-Tira," according to what the Mayor of Beit Liqia, Areej Asi, confirmed. In an interview with "Al Quds" dot com.

Assi added, "Road (443) was the official road for the villages west of Ramallah, and the people of Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorate benefit from it, especially merchants, to reach the interior and Jerusalem. If the road took 10 minutes, it took an hour or more, and then the protests reached international organizations, and after that, under pressure, a complaint was filed before the Israeli Supreme Court of Justice, and it was decided to find alternatives for the people, but the occupation forces set up military checkpoints at the entrances to towns and villages, which created new suffering. .

Assi indicated that the people, a month ago, were surprised by the closure of the barrier established at the entrance of Beit Sira, in front of vehicles, allowing those who have permits to cross on foot to reach Road 443, which forced vehicles to pave other roads and pass through other checkpoints, such as the Qalandia checkpoint, which It means an increase in distance and time, and when it was inquired about the existence of this decision, the occupation forces claimed that it was because there were no cars passing, although the claim is inaccurate.

Asi warned that the closure of the checkpoint would be a prelude to settlement occupation plans, which the occupation intends to implement in the area.

For his part, the head of the Beit Sira village council, Karim Al-Hajj, told Al-Quds.com: "What the occupation forces claim that there is no movement at the Beit Sira checkpoint is incorrect. We have contacted the Palestinian liaison, as it was informed by the Israeli side that it is not Closed! But in reality it is closed.

Al-Hajj points out that the occupation, after the decision of the Supreme Court of Occupation in 2010, placed barriers at the entrances to the seven villages and towns, and these barriers became open from five in the morning until 10 at night.

Al-Hajj stresses that this street is vital and main for reviving the western villages in Ramallah, which number about 40 thousand people. Collective punishments for the people and inflicting additional suffering on them.
