French Championship: Lille strengthens its continental fortunes with a hat-trick against Ajaccio

Lille strengthened its chances of a continental seat, with a sweeping 3-0 victory over its guest, Ajaccio, in the 33rd round of the French Football League, on Saturday.

Portuguese Andre Gomez scored two goals (22 and 33), both from an assist by Remy Kabila, who in turn added the third goal (37).

Lille raised its score to 59 points in fifth place, the last qualifying position for a continental competition, specifically the Conference League qualifiers.

The northern team is now six points away from both Rennes VI, who faces its guest Angers on Sunday, and Lyon VII, who beat Strasbourg on Friday in the opening stage.

Lille, the French champion in 2021, can also dream of a fourth place that entitles him to qualify for the European League “Europa League”, as he is two points behind Monaco, which hosts Montpellier on Sunday.

As for Ajaccio, the bottom runner-up, its relegation seems inevitable, as it is 10 points away from the first safe positions, five matches before the end.
