Emir of Qatar Cup: Al-Arabi beat Al-Sailiya by seven and set a date with Al-Sadd in the final
Al-Arabi reached the final match of the Emir of Qatar Football Cup in its fifty-first edition, after beating Al-Sailiya 7-1, on Tuesday, in the semi-finals.
Al-Arabi, the second most crowned in the cup (8), hit a date with Al-Sadd, which controls the championship with 18 titles, in the final scheduled for May 12 at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium.
And he scored for the Tunisian Arab Youssef Al-Masakni (12, 45, 90 + 4), the Syrian Omar Al-Soma (72 and 82), the Brazilian Ravinia Alcantara (31 from a penalty kick) and Ahmed Suhail (70). And Swedish substitute Carlos Strandberg (85) for Al-Sailiya.
The “people’s team” did not find much trouble to impose its dominance over the course of events early, scoring the first goal through Msakni, who took advantage of Hilal Saeed’s cross and headed it into the net, before winning a penalty kick after a rough intervention by Senegalese Mohamed Demi against Ahmed Fathy, so that Alcantara executed the kick successfully ( 31).
Al-Arabi’s advantage continued, so Al-Masakni scored the third goal after Ibrahim Kalla’s cross (45), and defender Suhail added the fourth from a wonderful free kick (70), and the fifth Somah, taking advantage of Alcantara’s pass (72), and the sixth for Al-Arabi and his personal second, taking advantage of the pass of substitute Hamid Ismail (82).
Substitute Strandberg scored the goal of honor for Al-Sailiya after a powerful shot from inside the area (85), but Al-Arabi completed the seventh in stoppage time through Msakni to score a hat-trick (90 + 4).
Al-Arabi coach Younis Ali said in the press conference after the match, "I think that my team made the task easier for itself through the elegant presentation presented by the players, showing great focus with clear efficiency in investing in the available opportunities throughout the two halves and scoring the largest number of goals."
He added, "The show was perfect in all respects, and confirms our right to reach the final match."
Regarding facing Al-Sadd in the final, he said, "It is true that Al-Arabi is completely different from the team that lost the final against Al-Sadd in 2020, but the task will not be easy in front of a competitor who has a lot of quality with the elements in its ranks, but we are not thinking about the final now, as we focus most of our attention." On the last three matches in the league in order to defend our chances of competing for the title.
And he added, "We have four finals ahead of us (three league matches and one in the cup final), and we will fight on both fronts until our last breath, counting on a wonderful group of players who are able to make a difference and on the support of fans who are hungry to see their team crowned after lean years."
In turn, Al-Sailiya coach Mirghani Al-Zein attributed the heavy loss to the many defensive mistakes made by his players, considering that the opponent burdened his team with a clean hat-trick during the first half and gained a great moral boost towards continuing weaving in the same vein in the second.
"We are now seeking to get the players out of the frustration of the heavy loss in order to focus on getting out of the complex situation we are living in in the league in order to avoid relegation to the second division in the last three rounds," he said.
