Hamidti: "We will not stop until we control all army bases"
The commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan , Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, known as "Hemedti", whose forces are fighting battles against the regular army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, said that he will not stop the fighting until he controls all the army bases.
In statements over the phone to Al-Jazeera, Hamidti affirmed, "We will not stop until we take control of all the army's positions (...) I cannot determine when the fighting will end, as the war is hit-and-run."
Three civilians were killed in the battles that erupted between the army, led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by his former ally, who became his staunch enemy, Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, known as "Hemedti."
"Two people were killed at Khartoum Airport," the Doctors Syndicate said in a statement on Facebook, and another person was killed in El-Obeid (North Kordofan, in central Sudan). The union added that at least nine people were wounded, including an army officer, in Omdurman.
On Saturday, the United Nations Special Envoy to Sudan, Volker Peretz, called on the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces for an "immediate" halt to the fighting in Khartoum and elsewhere in the country, as the conflict between their two leaders turned into a guerrilla war in the morning.
A statement issued by the United Nations Mission in Sudan stated that "Mr. Peretz contacted the two parties to demand an immediate cessation of hostilities for the safety of the Sudanese people and to spare the country more violence."
