Doha - "Jerusalem" dot com - Qatar's national team will open tomorrow evening, Sunday, its campaign in the World Cup, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East and the Arab world, when it will face Ecuador .

The meeting will take place at six o'clock in the evening, Palestine time, and will be held at Al-Bayt Stadium in the northern city of Al-Khor, and it is one of the six stadiums that will host the championship matches.

Although it ranked third in South America, Ecuador ranks 44th in the FIFA rankings, only six places higher than Qatar.

Twelve years after it was granted the right to host the 2022 World Cup in football, the hour of truth has come for Qatar, which raises the curtain on Sunday for the first World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world.

The tournament, which is held once every four years, opens with the host Qatar, participating for the first time, against Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium at 7:00 pm local time (16:00 GMT).

Qatar, which is home to about 3 million people, 90% of whom are foreigners, expects more than a million fans to come to the country during the World Cup over the course of the 29-day tournament.

The tournament hosts six stadiums with a capacity of about forty thousand spectators, which are Khalifa, 974 (formerly Ras Bu Abboud), Ahmed bin Ali (Al-Rayyan), Al-Janoub (formerly Al-Wakra), Al-Thumama and Education City, in exchange for sixty thousand spectators for Al-Bayt Stadium and more than eighty thousand for Lusail Stadium, which It will host the final match on December 18, Qatar National Day, and is expected to be watched by a billion spectators around the world.

Unlike the previous editions of the World Cup, which began in 1930 in Uruguay, the competition moved from the summer to the onset of winter, due to the summer temperatures in the Gulf, which aroused the ire of the major European championships, which forced them to freeze their competitions for at least a month.
