Johnson calls on Saudi Arabia to increase its oil production

London - (dpa) - British Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged Saudi Arabia to increase its oil production, seeking for his part to cool record fuel prices, echoing comments by US President Joe Biden last week, Bloomberg News reported Monday. .

"There may be some questions about how much the Saudis can pump at this very moment," Johnson said before the House of Commons today, Bloomberg said. However, "they undoubtedly need to produce more oil."

Last week, Biden said he hoped major producers in the Gulf would increase their oil production as he prepares this month for a visit to Saudi Arabia, which leads the OPEC+ alliance. Crude oil prices are still above $110 a barrel, as supplies failed to keep pace with the recovery in demand for it in the aftermath of the Corona virus pandemic, which puts pressure on consumers and threatens to push the global economy towards recession.
