The mayor, who refuses to stop street lighting for "security" reasons, will ask the state to "do the same" for the national monuments, and for the owners of private monuments to take measures "in the same direction."
Among the most important landmarks in the capital is the town hall, which was lit until 1 am (23:00 GMT), and the Eiffel Tower will also turn off its lights when the last visitors leave at 23:45 (21:45 GMT), according to Anne Hidalgo.
As for the bridges in the capital, they can be extinguished if this coincides with the safety necessities of river navigation, according to what was announced by the assistant in the Paris municipality in charge of environmental transformation issues, Dan Laert.
Temperatures in city buildings will be reduced by one degree during the day from 19 to 18 degrees Celsius, with the exception of nursing homes and nurseries, and to 12 degrees Celsius in the evening and on weekends, i.e. during “periods when these buildings are vacant,” Hidalgo announced. .
She stressed that the city council wants to delay the start of heating buildings in the morning by "30 minutes" in the time period "winter is approaching". She reassured that the delay would be canceled in the event of a drop in temperatures in November.
And temperatures will be lowered in about forty swimming pools in Paris by one degree "outside the water and in the pool," Hidalgo said. It was set at 27 degrees for air and 26 degrees for water.
The goal of the Emergency Plan for Balance is to "reduce consumption by 10 percent," which is equivalent to "the energy consumption of 226 schools," Hidalgo said.
Energy prices have risen significantly in the past months due to tensions related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and individuals, institutions and public bodies in many countries are seeking to reduce energy consumption.
