Denmark will invest more than five billion euros in its naval fleet
Copenhagen - (AFP) - Denmark's Defense Minister Morten Budeskov announced Thursday that Denmark will invest 40 billion Danish crowns (5.38 billion euros) in its navy over the next two decades to strengthen and renew its fleet in the new framework after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The minister told the press, when offering a partnership with specialized parties in this industry, that the Scandinavian country intends to build its ships.
"We are facing a serious situation in Europe. There is a war in Europe. We have just come out of the Covid epidemic and the common point between (the two crises) is that they caused problems to ensure our supplies," he said.
He did not say how many ships would be built in the next two decades, but said many ships were aging and needed to be replaced.
He added that "a large part of our fleet" includes patrol boats, small boats that carry out rescue operations near the coast, inspection ships and frigates.
