"Statistics": The consumer price index rose last month
The consumer price index in Palestine during February 2023 increased by 0.90% compared to January 2023.
The Central Bureau of Statistics stated in a statement today, Tuesday, that the main reason for the price increase in Palestine is as a result of the increase in the prices of fresh chicken by 11.84%, the prices of dried vegetables by 11.39%, the prices of eggs by 7.69%, the prices of fresh fruits by 3.57%, and the prices of fresh vegetables by 11.39%. 3.21%, short grain rice prices by 1.43%, and potato prices by 1.35%.
The prices of the following commodities rose to average; Chicken 18 shekels/kg, onions and potatoes 3 shekels/kg each, eggs 20 shekels/2kg, bananas 4 shekels/kg, pomegranates 6 shekels/kg, avocados and green hot peppers 8 shekels/kg each, and eggplant and cucumbers 5 shekels/kg each, and short grain rice 154 shekels/25 kg.
When comparing prices during February 2023 with its counterpart from last year, the data indicates an increase in the consumer price index in Palestine by 4.03% (4.71% in the West Bank, 4.05% in Jerusalem, and 1.87% in the Gaza Strip).
Consumer price index at the level of the Palestinian regions
The consumer price index in the West Bank increased by 0.99% during February 2023 compared to January 2023. This is due to the increase in the prices of fresh chicken by 14.74%, the prices of eggs by 9.95%, the prices of dried vegetables by 9.08%, and the prices of fresh fruits. by 4.07%, the prices of fresh vegetables by 1.60%, and the prices of short grain rice by 1.51%.
The prices of the following commodities increased in the West Bank to average; Chicken 19 shekels/kg, eggs 22 shekels/2kg, onions 4 shekels/kg, bananas and eggplant 5 shekels/kg each, pomegranate and hot green pepper 7 shekels/kg each, avocado 10 shekels/kg, short-grain rice 153 shekels/kg 25 kg.
High cost of living index in the Gaza Strip:
The consumer price index in the Gaza Strip increased by 0.95% during February 2023 compared to January 2023. This is due to the increase in the prices of dried vegetables by 13.92%, the prices of fresh vegetables by 7.53%, the prices of fresh chicken by 5.11%, and the prices of fish. Live, fresh, chilled or frozen by 4.64%, the price of short grain rice by 3.80%, the price of fresh fruits by 3.71%, the price of potatoes by 2.26%, and the price of eggs by 2.20%.
The prices of the following commodities increased in the Gaza Strip, reaching an average of: Onions and potatoes 2 shekels/kg each, garlic 8 shekels/kg, eggplant 4 shekels/kg, cucumber 3 shekels/kg, green hot pepper 10 shekels/kg, chicken 16 shekels/kg, and short-grain rice 155 shekels/25kg.
High cost of living index in Jerusalem:
The consumer price index in Jerusalem increased by 0.32% during February 2023 compared to January 2023, as a result of an increase in the price of potatoes by 37.74%, the price of dried vegetables by 15.71%, the price of eggs by 15.33%, and the price of fresh chicken by 4.60%. The prices of fresh vegetables increased by 3.87%, and the prices of fresh meat increased by 1.61%.
The prices of the following commodities increased in Jerusalem, reaching an average; Potatoes 6 shekels/kg, onions 4 shekels/kg, eggs 32 shekels/2kg, chicken 21 shekels/kg, eggplant 7 shekels/kg, cucumber 8 shekels/kg, green hot pepper 9 shekels/kg, and lamb 94 shekels/kg .
