Summer camps!
With its extreme summeriness and intimacy, the title flirts with the homes of love and the places of passion that possess the children of the camps, as they prepare themselves and pack their belongings to participate in the summer camps, which start all over the country at the end of each school year.
However, the deceptive use of the beautiful, intimate name by the occupation authorities, in their ongoing barbaric aggression on the camps of the northern West Bank, which bore the name “the title article,” aims to downplay the risks of that operation, before the bloody truth of using the soft name for the brutal operation is revealed, which claimed the lives of children who were shot by the killers while they were in their bedrooms, like the martyred child Bana Bakr, and dozens of other children, young men, and women who were killed out of a desire to kill, take revenge, and have fun, by shooting at the windows and walls of homes in the camps of Jenin, Tulkarm, Nour Shams, and Al-Far’a, and bombing with planes and drones, as has been happening in Gaza for eleven months.
The camps were, and still are, waiting stations that were provided with all the means of continuity, and the requirements of empowerment and stability to help the refugees bear the burdens of life.
The national forces, along with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), have been keen to provide all possible assistance to preserve the survival of the camp residents, educate them, and provide them with health care.
What the occupation is doing is not a coincidence, nor is it a reaction. Rather, it is an act that has been begging for an excuse to destroy the camp and the meanings and connotations it carries that nourish the memory of successive generations about the right of return.
I think that the national forces know the goals of the occupation throughout the years of conflict, and they also realize that the destruction of the camps began from the first moment in which UNRWA was demonized and accused of terrorism.
The camps’ most powerful weapon is life and survival at the waiting station, until the refugees obtain their right to return to their homes, orchards and fields, no matter how great the challenges and how great the sacrifices.
