Trump's "gifts" to Israel in exchange for stopping the war on Gaza

Report: Trump pledged to Netanyahu that in exchange for his approval of the current deal, he would support the resumption of war in the future, a major expansion of settlements, and the cancellation of the Biden administration's decisions regarding sanctions on terrorist settlers and the inclusion of NSO on the blacklist

The Israeli government agreed to the prisoner exchange deal and ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, after US President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office next week, presented the Israeli government and its ministers with several "gifts", which are Israeli demands.

Trump pledged to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer that if they agreed to a ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli army forces from the Gaza Strip, he would support Israel later if it decided to resume the war on Gaza and violate the ceasefire, according to what the intelligence analyst for the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Ronen Bergman, reported today, Tuesday, from a source familiar with the details.

Other Israeli sources claimed, according to Bergman, that "everything that is happening in front of the public, including the right-wing opposition, is part of a play."

Bergman noted that Trump and his advisers have proven in the past that they can do unexpected things, such as the Abraham Accords and now the prisoner swap deal and the cessation of hostilities, not through agreements with texts that are favorable to all parties, but rather by creating “a good cause and personal benefits” elsewhere.

He added that with regard to the Abraham Accords, Trump recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and awarded the UAE a contract to supply it with weapons, including advanced fighter jets, with Israel’s tacit approval.

Bergman continued that in order for Saudi Arabia to allow Israeli flights to cross its airspace, Trump pressured Netanyahu to resume the license to operate the Pegasus spyware, which is “one of the favorite tools of the Saudi ruler and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.”

“Pegasus, the most advanced Israeli spyware in the world, was the link between most of the participants in the Abraham Accords, including Uganda, and also the United States in secret. Ultimately, the deal being woven now is supposed to play a role the day after (the war on Gaza) as well, with the involvement of the Saudis and the Emiratis,” he noted.

Trump is now likely to re-embrace these methods, “and it is not unlikely that he will allow Israel and NSO (the Israeli offensive spyware company that developed Pegasus and is subject to American sanctions) to return to playing a central role in international diplomacy,” according to Bergman.

He added that a number of sources indicate that Finance Minister (Bezalel Smotrich) will receive American approval in exchange for the deal with Gaza to carry out extensive settlement construction in the West Bank, “as senior officials in the future Trump administration have pledged.”

Trump’s “gift basket,” according to Bergman, also includes canceling the list of sanctions imposed by the Biden administration on terrorist settlers, and there are indications that Trump intends to wage a “fierce war” against the two international courts in The Hague, against the issuance of international arrest warrants against Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and against other steps that may be taken against other Israeli officials.
