PA MOFA informs foreign consuls of the latest developments
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fareseen Shaheen, briefed members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State of Palestine on the latest developments in the occupation's aggression on the West Bank, especially in the governorates of Jenin and Tulkarm, and the Gaza Strip.
This came during a meeting to which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited foreign ambassadors and consuls in Palestine, in the presence of the head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, Mu'ayyad Shaaban, and the governor of Jenin, Kamal Abu al-Rab.
Shaheen said, in a press conference following the meeting, that what is happening in the northern West Bank is an extension of the war of extermination practiced by the occupation in the Gaza Strip, with the aim of displacement and undermining the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
She added that the Palestinian side called on the representatives of the countries participating in the meeting to intensify action in their countries to expose the practices of the occupation, and also called on international and UN organizations to assume their responsibilities in protecting the Palestinian people.
She said: What we see today is a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and we call on the international community, with all its institutions and governments, to intervene quickly to stop the aggression in all Palestinian territories. We also stressed the need to hold the occupation accountable and punish those responsible for these crimes.
Shaheen stressed the need to work to stop targeting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), "as part of targeting the camps."
She said: "We stressed to the members of the diplomatic corps that security and peace, occupation and colonization do not go together," calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards international law and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legality of the occupation.
For his part, Shaaban said that the Palestinian side confirmed to members of the diplomatic corps that the occupation's practices on the ground are primarily aimed at consolidating the annexation of the West Bank and preventing any possibility of establishing a Palestinian state.
He said: We confirmed to them (the foreign consuls) that this extremist Israeli government wants the Palestinian to be either dead, or submissive and a slave working in its colonies.
For his part, Abu al-Rab said that the occupation has been besieging the city of Jenin and its camp for the seventh consecutive day, completely isolating them from the outside world, and is continuing to destroy people, trees and stones, besieging hospitals, and preventing ambulances from reaching the sick and injured.
He said that this is the 12th time that the occupation army has invaded the city of Jenin, "but it is the most violent and painful."
He said: "We conveyed to the foreign consuls that the occupation seeks to return the West Bank to the square of violence, and to expand the ongoing war of extermination in the Gaza Strip to the West Bank."
Abu al-Rab explained that the Palestinian leadership, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, is making diplomatic efforts to stop the aggression, and "we stressed to foreign consuls that the Palestinian will not accept an alternative to his land and state, and we will not accept displacement," stressing that "the Palestinian camps are the title of the right of return."
