EU: Settlement fuels tensions and undermines reaching a two-state solution
The European Union condemned the announcement by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich of the seizure of 8,000 dunums of Jordan Valley land.
The European Union considered, in a press statement on Sunday, that the settlements constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law, noting that European Union leaders, during their participation in European Council meetings, condemned the Israeli government’s decisions to continue expanding illegal settlements throughout the occupied West Bank, and urged Israel To undo it.
“In line with its long-standing common position and UN Security Council resolutions, the European Union will not recognize changes to the 1967 borders unless both parties agree to this,” the statement said.
He stressed that settlement expansion fuels tensions and undermines the prospects of reaching a two-state solution, which remains the only sustainable guarantee for long-term security for both parties.
