Prisoners' Affairs Commission warns of silent assassination attempt targeting Kamal Adwan Hospital director

The head of the Prisoners' Affairs Commission, Raed Abu Al-Homs, issued a strong warning about a systematic Israeli plan aimed at liquidating the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who is detained in occupation prisons. Abu Al-Homs explained that various military and intelligence agencies of the occupation are involved in a widespread campaign of abuse targeting the doctor, by subjecting him to harsh detention conditions that violate all international norms and conventions, which puts his life in imminent danger and necessitates urgent international human rights intervention.

Official sources in the Commission reported that the imprisoned doctor is being subjected to what can be described as an 'organized crime' inside solitary confinement cells, where clear signs of severe beating and violent physical torture appear on his body and face. These practices are accompanied by a deliberate starvation policy and complete deprivation of necessary medicines and medical care, as part of what the Commission considered an unethical medical crime aimed at undermining the steadfastness of Palestinian medical personnel who performed their duty during the aggression.

Regarding his health condition, the statement indicated a rapid and dangerous deterioration in Dr. Abu Safiya's condition, as his features had shockingly changed and he appeared extremely exhausted due to the continuous restraints on his hands and feet. The doctor is currently suffering from severe difficulty in breathing and speaking, which reflects the extent of physical and psychological pressure exerted on him in 'Nitzan' prison in Ramla, where he has been held in complete solitary confinement since his transfer.

Abu Al-Homs called on international organizations, especially the World Health Organization and Physicians for Human Rights, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities by launching an international campaign to pressure the occupation authorities for his immediate release. He stressed that the current stage does not tolerate delay, emphasizing the need to harness all diplomatic and human rights capabilities to prevent the occupation from completing its crime against a medical figure who provided great services to the wounded and children in the Gaza Strip.

It is worth noting that the occupation forces arrested Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya in December 2024, while he was performing his humanitarian duties inside Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. The occupation's media machine tried to portray the arrest as a security achievement by fabricating false accusations, in an attempt to justify his continued detention in inhumane conditions aimed at breaking his will and physically liquidating him away from the spotlight.

Dr. Abu Safiya is being subjected to an organized crime, and the effects of abuse are clearly visible on his body amid a deliberate policy of starvation and medical deprivation.
