The Israeli occupation army has officially admitted the authenticity of a widely circulated image documenting a Palestinian prisoner being subjected to brutal and inhumane torture inside the Gaza Strip. The leaked image shows the detainee lying on his stomach, blindfolded and with his hands tied with a metal wire, while an iron rod was fixed to his back in a humiliating manner that sparked widespread shock and human rights protests.
This admission came through statements reported by Israeli Army Radio from a military spokesperson, who confirmed that the scenes that spread over the past twenty-four hours are completely real. The spokesperson clarified that the incident did indeed occur within the Strip, while claiming at the same time that the military command had opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident to ascertain the details and hold the implicated soldiers accountable according to the findings.
Israeli soldier 'Joseph Benamo' was the first to publish the image on his personal Instagram account, before quickly deleting it and closing his account after it spread. Sources reported that these practices are not isolated incidents, but rather reflect a recurring behavior of occupation soldiers who boast about publishing clips and photos documenting the abuse of Palestinians abducted from areas of incursion.
For its part, the Israeli organization 'Breaking the Silence' commented on the incident, affirming that these images represent official policy, and are not merely exceptional actions. The organization noted that the soldier who published the image accompanied it with the phrase 'Good morning' in Hebrew, which reflects the extent of disregard for human dignity and the enjoyment of the suffering of blindfolded and bound victims.
The human rights organization stressed that Israeli detention centers have effectively turned into 'torture camps' since the start of the aggression in October 2023, where detainees are systematically abused. Reports revealed that more than 100 Palestinians entered these centers alive and left them in body bags, as a result of severe torture and deliberate medical neglect inside secret and declared prisons.
In a related context, reports noted that the occupation authorities had previously returned soldiers accused of torturing prisoners to military service, despite conclusive evidence of their involvement. These documented injuries included punctured lungs and fractured ribs, which confirms that the investigations announced by the army are often superficial and do not lead to real accountability for the perpetrators.
Data from Palestinian prisoner institutions indicates that there are about 9,500 prisoners in occupation prisons, living in harsh conditions lacking the most basic human necessities. This number includes hundreds of children and women, in addition to thousands of administrative detainees who are held without clear charges or fair trials, under the pretext of secret security files imposed by Israeli intelligence.
International warnings are escalating regarding the continuation of these violations, especially with the classification of more than 1,300 detainees from Gaza as 'unlawful combatants' to deprive them of their legal rights. Sources confirm that this number does not include all detainees in field camps, raising serious concerns about the fate of thousands of missing persons whose whereabouts are unknown to date.
The footage published, showing a man from Gaza handcuffed and tied to a bed with a rod tied to his back, is real footage that occurred in the Gaza Strip.
