UN experts urged member states to take practical steps to end the illegal Israeli occupation and the ongoing attacks against Palestinians, on the first anniversary of General Assembly resolution A/RES/ES-10/24 based on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice issued in July 2024.
The experts stated in a joint statement that they are "appalled" by the continuation of the occupation despite the overwhelming support for the UN resolution, emphasizing that the court clearly stated that Israel's presence in the occupied territories is illegal, and that all countries should not recognize it or provide any form of support to it.
The statement noted that seven hundred days of Israeli military attacks on the Gaza Strip and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories have resulted in the deaths and injuries of at least 230,000 Palestinians, while 2.1 million civilians in the besieged sector are suffering from severe hunger, and all of Gaza has turned into rubble, with all its residents subjected to repeated forced displacement.
The continued inaction of states makes them complicit in international crimes.
