Palestinian Organization: Soft Displacement Practiced by Israel Against Bedouin Communities in the West Bank

A Palestinian human rights organization has warned of the Israeli occupation's escalation of its policies in the West Bank, particularly in the northern Jordan Valley, where soft displacement and silent cleansing operations are being carried out against Bedouin communities. The Bader Organization for the Defense of Bedouin Rights confirmed that the area is witnessing a serious escalation as part of a series of violations perpetrated by the occupation forces and settler militias, aimed at dismantling the social and economic structure of the Palestinians there.

The organization explained that the assaults include poisoning livestock, which has led to the death of many animals, and releasing cows and livestock into Palestinian agricultural lands, causing crop damage, in addition to demolishing homes and assaults on houses and their residents. The statement indicated that these policies are not random but part of a systematic plan aimed at expelling the Palestinian population from the area.

The Jordan Valley constitutes about 30 percent of the area of the West Bank and is home to approximately 70,000 people. It is one of the most important agricultural and pastoral areas, where hundreds of families rely on sheep farming and agriculture as their primary source of livelihood. The organization confirmed that recent settlement practices specifically target livestock, water sources, and natural pastures, aiming to create an environment that drives away the Palestinian population.

In statements to Anadolu, Hassan Mlihath, the general supervisor of the organization, stated that the number of Bedouin communities in the West Bank reaches 212, of which 64 have been displaced, with about 9,000 individuals displaced. He called for the deployment of permanent international observers to the area to protect civilians and for independent international investigations into the crimes of settlers there.

In a related context, the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission announced that the occupation forces and settlers carried out more than two thousand assaults in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, during July, resulting in the deaths of four Palestinians, and assaults that led to the injury of about 7,000 others, and the arrest of more than 18,500. Settlers also attempted to establish 18 new settlement outposts and study structural plans for the benefit of settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Amid the escalation of aggression, the occupation forces and their settler allies continue their killing and destruction operations, as the genocide in Gaza since the beginning of October 2023 has left more than 210,000 Palestinians dead or injured, with hundreds of thousands displaced, and famine claiming many lives, amidst complete international disregard for calls and court orders to stop the aggression.
