After the Second World War, there was a "Cold War", followed by the "post -Cold War" stage of the United States' control over the international scene and the end of the Soviet Union. The Palestinian Prisoners' Club said on Saturday that 80 Palestinian female prisoners in the Israeli Damon Prison "are being subjected to torture, starvation, and harsh detention conditions."

This came in a statement they made about the conditions of the detained women, most of whom were from the Gaza Strip, after a series of visits by lawyers to the prison, during which they met with some of them.

The club said, “The number of female prisoners is 80, the majority of whom are from the Gaza Strip, in addition to female prisoners from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and female prisoners from the 1948 territories.”

It stated that among the female prisoners were "a pregnant prisoner in her fourth month facing hunger, and the prison administration deliberately brought her burnt, inedible food, and an elderly prisoner, 82 years old, from Gaza, who is subjected to humiliating and humiliating treatment."

It added, "The continuation of torture, abuse, humiliation, and revenge increased the harshness of their detention conditions. Hunger intensified, and the extreme cold exacerbated the tragedy."

The Prisoners' Club stated that the cells of female prisoners "are witnessing great overcrowding, and the majority of them sleep on the floor, and the prison administration does not allow the introduction of blankets."

It added that some of the female prisoners "are still wearing the same clothes they were arrested in, as some of them have been detained for more than a month, and the prison administration refuses to allow them to bring in clothes."

The "Prisoner's Club" pointed out, "isolating the female prisoners of Gaza from the female prisoners of the West Bank and the occupied interior, and preventing them from communicating."

It explained that "female prisoners in Gaza suffer from double torture and humiliating and humiliating treatment, and the prison administration deliberately provides them with undrinkable and dirty water."

The Prisoners' Club says that the majority of the female prisoners who were arrested after the 7th of last October "were subjected to systematic abuse, torture, and humiliation... threats, strip searches, and beatings by female soldiers and female guards."

It pointed out that the female prisoners in Gaza in Damoun prison are “part of other female prisoners detained in (Israeli army) camps, and the occupation refuses to disclose any information about them, or allow legal teams to visit them.”

Regarding the charges against the female prisoners, the club said, “Most of the female prisoners in the West Bank are under administrative detention, or are facing charges related to incitement on social media sites.”

Administrative detention is a detention decision by military order on the grounds of a security threat, without filing an indictment, and it extends to 6 months, which can be extended.

The club called on "all international human rights institutions, led by the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to press for the restoration of their true and necessary roles in light of the escalation of crimes against male and female prisoners in the occupation prisons."

As of 18:20 (UTG), the Israeli authorities had not issued a comment on the statement of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club.

In total, the total number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons exceeds 7,800, including more than 2,870 administrative detainees, as of the end of November.

Officials in the Palestinian Hamas movement told Al-Sharq TV on Saturday that the movement is showing flexibility towards the new Qatari mediation ideas regarding the exchange of prisoners and a temporary cessation of the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, in an effort to reach a permanent ceasefire, explaining that it is based on stages of prisoner exchange. and detainees, during which a renewed ceasefire will take place.

The Qatari proposals, based on the Egyptian initiative, stipulate a first phase of the prisoner exchange that includes the release of 40 Israeli detainees, including the elderly, the sick, women and minors, in exchange for the release of 120 Palestinian prisoners of similar categories, in addition to a ceasefire for a period of about a month.

According to officials, after this stage, an exchange of the remaining Israeli prisoners and detainees will take place in exchange for agreed-upon numbers of Palestinian prisoners, accompanied by a ceasefire.

The officials said that the Qatari proposals were derived from the Egyptian initiative.

One of the officials indicated that "the movement is preparing to submit an official written response to the Egyptian initiative that includes the movement's demands."

An informed source reported to Al-Sharq on Thursday that a high-level delegation from the Hamas political bureau will head to Cairo on Friday to inform officials in Egypt of the response of the movement and the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip to the Egyptian initiative to stop the war.

Hamas was demanding that the prisoner exchange be linked to a complete and comprehensive cessation of the war on Gaza, which Israel rejected.

Gradual cessation of war

Those close to Hamas believe that the movement is aware that Israel is preparing to withdraw from the heart of the Gaza Strip within a period ranging between 2-4 weeks, but it will continue the war in other ways, including direct bombing against the movement’s targets for a long time to come.

A person close to Hamas pointed out that “the movement tried to force Israel to stop the war by using the detainees card, but it became clear to it that Tel Aviv is ready to sacrifice them in exchange for continuing the war, which many Israeli leaders, led by (Prime Minister) Benjamin Netanyahu, see as opportunity to remain in their positions.

Hamas demands the release of all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons in exchange for all Israeli prisoners and detainees, which Israel strongly rejects. Those close to Hamas expect that compromise solutions will be reached in this regard.

Egyptian Initiative

The Egyptian initiative in its new form, the details of which Al-Sharq revealed, includes a 10-day humanitarian deal, during which Hamas will release all of its detained civilians, including women, children, and elderly patients, in exchange for Israel releasing an appropriate, agreed-upon number of its Palestinian prisoners.

The second phase includes the release of all female soldiers detained by Hamas in exchange for a number agreed upon by both sides of Palestinian prisoners held inside Israeli prisons, and the handover of all bodies held by both sides since the start of the war on October 7.

During the third and final stage, negotiations will take place for a month regarding Hamas’s release of all its Israeli recruits in exchange for Israel’s release of a number of Palestinian prisoners agreed upon between the two sides inside Israeli prisons.

The war broke out on October 7, when Hamas launched an attack on Israeli towns and villages, during which 1,200 people were killed. Tel Aviv responded with a war on the Gaza Strip that resulted in more than 21,000 casualties, most of them women and children, according to Palestinian health officials.

The Observatory said that its initial estimates, based on the testimonies it documented, indicate “the theft of personal belongings of Palestinian civilians and extensive looting of valuable possessions carried out by the Israeli army, the proceeds of which may exceed tens of millions of dollars.”

Palestinian Thabet Salim (40 years old) told the Observatory team that the Israeli army forces looted all available money and gold when they arrested him and two of his sons from inside their house in the “Zaytoun” neighborhood, south of Gaza City.

Salim added that he was released alone two days ago, and he does not know anything about the fate of his children.

He stated that "the value of the sums of money the soldiers took from my house exceeds 10,000 US dollars, in addition to an almost identical amount of gold for my wife and the wife of my eldest son," according to the report.

As for Mrs. Umm Muhammad Gharbiyya, a resident of the “Al-Shuja’iya” neighborhood, east of Gaza City, she told the Observatory team that the Israeli army forces forcibly took away her gold jewelry that she was wearing during the raid on their house and the arrest of her husband and her eldest son in mid-December.

The Observatory called for a comprehensive and impartial international investigation into the serious violations against residents of the Gaza Strip and their property by Israeli army forces.

Kozanov said the war between Israel and Hamas provided Moscow with a rare opportunity to court the broader Global South, which accused the Western rules-based order of hypocrisy regarding Palestinian martyrs.

In the process, the Kremlin has been keen to claim the moral high ground, despite its devastating record of human rights violations during the wars in Chechnya, Syria, and more recently in Ukraine.

Since last November 7, the French publishing house Fayard decided to withdraw Pappe’s book, which it published in 2008, and libraries and specialized websites can no longer order the works of the Jewish historian, with a note saying that the aforementioned book has been permanently suspended from marketing.

Fayard claimed that the reason was formal, and attributed the issue to the expiration of the contract with the author on February 27, 2022, so it officially suspended the contract on November 3 of last year, which Pappe denied for the first time in his special interview with “Arabi 21.”

The Jewish historian revealed that he was subjected to other restrictions as a result of his anti-Zionist stances, continuing: “From time to time, there is pressure on my university to expel me, and in some places in Europe my lectures are cancelled, but this will not affect my activity for Palestine.”

Ilan Pappe is a professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, director of the European Center for Palestine Studies at the same university, and co-director of the Exeter Center for Ethnic and Political Studies. He left teaching at the University of Haifa in 2006. This idea is important to a certain group in Zionism, namely the national religious groups. More secular Jews are less motivated by this idea, but the power of national religious Jews has increased dramatically in recent years, so this idea now influences Israeli politics.

To what extent has Israel's image been damaged in world public opinion in the wake of its recent aggression against Gaza?

As I mentioned, civil societies, even before the events in Gaza, were more and more pro-Palestinian. The events of the last two months have made it more determined to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle.

This has not yet affected Western governments, but we hope that over time, the associations will influence government policies.

Is there a complete Jewish rally around the world behind Israel in the wake of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation that broke out on October 7 last year?

Many Jews around the world, especially the younger generation, are not Zionists. Therefore, Israel cannot rely on the world's Jewish communities to provide it with automatic and unconditional support. I am happy to see the large number of young Jews who reject Zionism. This moral Jewish position will help in our struggle against "anti-Semitism" and against Zionism at the same time.

In fact, in many places Israel relies more heavily on right-wing parties and Christian Zionists.

Does Israel distort the image of Jews or insult the Jewish religion?

Israel has complicated life for Jews around the world. It equates Zionism, which many people believe is a racist and colonial ideology, with Judaism. What are the roots and causes of Israeli extremism, both religious and ideological?

The source of extremism is the nature of Zionist thought. It became a settler colonial ideology in the 1920s, meaning that it viewed the indigenous people of Palestine as foreigners and a major obstacle to the creation of a European Jewish state in the middle of the Arab world. All settler colonial movements operate under the logic of excluding the native as the only way available to them to build a new state in a foreign country.

Is "Zionism" a secular or religious idea?

Zionism began as a secular movement. In fact, it wanted to secularize and modernize the Jewish people. But it used religion as a justification for colonizing Palestine, hoping that Jews and Christians would be convinced to support it.

In recent years, Zionism has become more religious, and I said before that religious Zionists now have more influence than ever before.

In your estimate, when and how will “Zionism” end? What is the future of the anti-Zionist axis?

It is difficult to predict when the Zionist project will collapse and when it will end specifically, but it can be said that there are indications that we are at the beginning of the end of that project. It seems that the only cement holding society together is hatred of Palestinians. As the events leading up to October 7 demonstrated, there is a civil war within the Jewish community between secular and religious Jews with no common ground on which to agree; It has proven that the rift within the Jewish community cannot be bridged. The younger Palestinian generation will provide a more consensual and clearer direction to the fragmented Palestinian national movement.

It is still possible that future democratic transformation in the Arab world will lead to more positive Arab support for Palestine, which means more commitment to Palestine.

Could Israel enter into a “white coup” against Zionism in light of the possibility of its demographics changing in the future?

I fear that there will be no change from within the Jewish community, even if the demographic balance changes. This will only come through effective pressure from abroad in the form of sanctions, and from the region.

How will the Israeli war on Gaza end, in your opinion?

It's hard to say. It appears that it will take longer than the Israelis imagined to defeat Hamas militarily, and that Hamas will fight to the last man. So this could be a long time.

Once this happens - if it happens - Israel will annex part of the Gaza Strip to Israel, and try to persuade the Egyptians to receive refugees, or other countries, and if that does not succeed, it will leave them inside a smaller strip, and they will try to convince a multinational force to take charge, and try to build a kind of Of autonomy there, without Hamas.

Will they succeed in all this? I'm very skeptical. But much depends on whether war breaks out in northern Israel on the border with Lebanon, and what will happen in the West Bank and inside Israel? How will the world react to all these challenges?

The anti-Zionist Orthodox rabbi, Elhanan Beck, revealed that Israel “failed to provide security for the Jews” to the point that it became the “most dangerous” place for them, noting that Muslims have throughout history saved Jews who were persecuted in different parts of the world, and that liberating Palestine is a must “from the sea to the river.”

Speaking to Anadolu, the Orthodox rabbi pointed to the role that Muslims played throughout history in the lives of the Jewish people, and said: “We were persecuted in many parts of the world, and Muslims throughout history saved us. They gave us a perfect place to live.”

He believed that “the Zionists always try to claim that Muslims want to exterminate all Jews and throw them into the sea,” considering these allegations as “nonsense.”

He explained: “Anyone who knows a little about history knows that the Jews lived a wonderful life in Islamic countries. As Jews, we have been persecuted in most parts of the world, and Muslims have always saved us from that persecution.”

Accordingly, Rabbi Beck denied the accusations of anti-Semitism against Muslims.

He added: “Despite 75 years since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories, Jews still live in peace in the Islamic world,” referring to Jewish communities in “Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Iran, Turkey, and Yemen, and Palestine.”

**I do not consider Netanyahu a “Jew”

In addition to his position on Zionism and the founding of Israel, Beck criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his role in the “genocide” committed by Tel Aviv in Gaza.

He said that he does not consider Netanyahu a “Jew,” describing him as “the prime minister of the people who rebelled against God,” as he put it.

He continued: “I cannot bear to see someone who can legitimize genocide, or commit it.”

He stated that Netanyahu “was trying to portray himself as secular, by violating the daily sanctities of the Jewish faith.”

He explained that during Netanyahu’s recent visit to Britain, “He (Netanyahu) ate in a restaurant that served foods and drinks forbidden according to the Jewish (faith).”

** Corbyn is a good friend of the Jews

As such, Beck explained that anti-Semitism “has ceased to be a threat to the Jewish people since the end of the Holocaust,” while simultaneously questioning claims that “Israel is working to save the Jewish people from the threat of anti-Semitism.”

Rabbi Beck highlighted that according to Orthodox Jewish faith “Jews are not allowed to rule even an inch of land” (referring to Palestine).

He indicated in his interview with Anatolia that his sect “does not support the two-state solution, because it believes in the necessity of the disappearance of the State of Israel, and the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea, and that its problem lies with the occupation and the occupiers,” as he put it.

“From the River to the Sea” is a political slogan supporting the Palestinian cause and the liberation of the occupied territories, and refers to the geographical area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

In this context, Beck stressed that his sect’s position on the establishment of Israel “does not mean killing or deporting Jews, but rather they can continue their lives normally, as is the case with Jews in other Islamic countries.”
