Settlers threaten to demolish more than 20 homes in eastern Al-Lubban.

Settlers threatened to demolish more than 20 homes in the village of Al-Lubban Al-Sharqiya, located on the main road linking the cities of Nablus and Ramallah.

Late Sunday evening, settlers posted calls on social media calling on the occupation army to demolish homes and infrastructure on the main street of the village of al-Lubban al-Sharqiya. They noted that they would demonstrate every evening at 7:30 a.m. at the village's main entrance, performing Talmudic rituals, and closing the village until the demolition is complete.

The colonists' calls also included incitement against the village and its people, especially its schools located on the main street.

It is noteworthy that the settlers closed the entrance to the village seven times during the past 12 days.

Adalah demands disclosure of the detention location of Madeleine activists

In an urgent letter addressed to the Israeli authorities, the Adalah Legal Center for Human Rights demanded the immediate disclosure of the whereabouts of 12 international activists who were forcibly detained aboard the "Madeleine," one of the Freedom Flotilla ships, after the Israeli Navy seized the ship early Monday morning.

The center considered the seizure of the ship and its accompanying detention to be "an illegal step under international law." Meanwhile, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Palestine, Francesca Albanese, called for urgent action to secure the release of the Madeleine and its crew.

On board the sailing ship were 12 French, German, Brazilian, Turkish, Swedish, Spanish, and Dutch activists who set sail from Italy on June 1st to "break the Israeli siege" on Gaza, which is suffering a catastrophic humanitarian situation amid Israel's war of extermination on the territory.

Adalah noted that the ship set sail more than a week ago on a humanitarian mission aimed at delivering essential aid to the Gaza Strip, including medical equipment, baby formula, and water purification supplies. The voyage also aimed to "open a safe and popular sea corridor to Gaza in the face of the 17-year-old blockade," adding that the move came against the backdrop of "accusations that Israel is committing genocide that has been ongoing for more than 21 months, causing a worsening humanitarian catastrophe."

According to the statement, the ship was sailing in international waters when it was intercepted at 3:00 a.m., "after being surrounded by the Israeli Navy with the participation of drones." The statement explained that "the ship did not enter Israeli territorial waters, and this was not part of its plan. Rather, it was heading towards the territorial waters of the Palestinian state, as recognized under international law," meaning that "Israel has no legal jurisdiction to intercept the ship or arrest those on board."

Adalah warned that "the arrest of unarmed civilian activists who were seeking to deliver humanitarian aid constitutes a flagrant violation of international law," stressing that "the blockade imposed on Gaza is used as a military weapon to starve the civilian population, constitutes collective punishment prohibited under international humanitarian law, and violates the provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice in the genocide case (South Africa v. Israel)."

The statement said, "Israeli forces towed the ship to Ashdod port, where all activists were taken into custody without any official announcement of their whereabouts or legal status, and without allowing them access to lawyers."

The center concluded its statement by calling on the Israeli authorities to "immediately reveal the whereabouts of the 12 activists, their legal status, and ensure they receive the necessary legal representation," stressing that it will take legal steps in the coming days to secure their release.

In turn, Albanese said in a post on the X platform, "The Israeli forces' interception and seizure of the Madeleine ship in international waters calls for a full explanation from the Israeli authorities."

She added that Britain "must urgently seek this clarification and ensure the immediate release of the ship and its crew." The UN rapporteur emphasized that "the Madeleine is performing a legitimate humanitarian mission and must be allowed to continue toward the Gaza Strip."

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that the military had seized the ship "Madeleine," which was en route to the Gaza Strip, and taken it to Israel. The military claimed it intended to deport the activists on board to their countries.

Overnight, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which operated the voyage, announced that the Israeli military had intercepted the vessel. It reported that "communication with the Madeleine was lost. The Israeli military boarded the ship," adding that Israeli forces had kidnapped the ship's crew.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition also denounced the "clear violation of international law," asserting that the interception occurred in international waters. Coalition official Howayda Arraf emphasized, "Israel does not have the legal authority to detain the international volunteers aboard the Madeleine."

From Aid to Massacre: Israel's Gaza Project at Stake

Mustafa Ibrahim

Mustafa Ibrahim

Opinion Writer

Since the launch of the Gaza Humanitarian Association's aid distribution project in the Gaza Strip, serious details have emerged that threaten not only the lives of Palestinians, but also the reputation and future of the international companies and institutions involved.

This project, run by private entities including mercenaries and shipping companies, has become an international scandal, with direct Israeli funding and dozens of martyrs falling every week in distribution centers run as if they were military detention centers.
This disaster not only threatens to brand the project a failure, but also opens the door to international legal action against the association, its partners, and its directors, placing them before the courts and investigative journalism.

The world no longer justifies the killing of the hungry under the banner of "humanitarian action." Each new attempt ends in the same tragedy: chaos, blood, and a complete lack of accountability. The result? Bottles of oil, flour, and sugar, not enough for an average family to last a week, distributed amid a scene not unlike the deadly "Hunger Games."

While the implementing parties blame Hamas, international organizations that previously oversaw aid distribution in Gaza assert that the problem lies in a lack of planning and expertise. The terrain is not prepared, people are desperate, and the process is degrading and inconsistent with human dignity.

Images coming out of Gaza, from bodies lying in the streets to scenes of people fleeing the occupation's bullets, shocked the world and cast the project under suspicion as part of an ongoing genocide.
Distribution centers are located in military areas controlled by the occupying army and devoid of civilians, making the occupying government, which is responsible for the entry of aid, officially responsible for protecting civilians under international humanitarian law.

But what's happening is the exact opposite: a massive project that lacks even the most basic standards of humanitarian work, with no real management, no effective communication with the population, and no field oversight. Communication is conducted solely through an army spokesperson from the air and through reconnaissance aircraft that inform people of distribution sites. On the ground, chaos reigns.

Security companies claiming to be responsible for safety are accused of being a new version of the infamous Russian Wagner Group, known for committing war crimes in several countries. The similarity in their composition and methods raises doubts about the true nature of these companies and their role.

Despite accusing Hamas of obstructing the project, neither Israel nor its security contractors have been able to prevent the recurring massacres at the distribution sites. Each attack results in new casualties, and the tragedy is repeated without review or modification of the failed mechanism.

Even as Israel holds Hamas responsible, the occupation cannot evade its legal and moral responsibility. Israel has been waging a war of extermination and starvation for more than a year and a half, and assigning mercenaries humanitarian missions increases the chances of committing crimes, not reducing them.

The problem extends beyond poor implementation to casting doubt on the credibility of the project itself. While the United Nations claims to have oversight mechanisms in place to prevent aid from reaching Hamas, Israel and the UN Relief and Works Agency insist that the aid actually served the movement, without providing any evidence.

What is happening in the Gaza Strip is not just a failed humanitarian project, but a disastrous gamble with civilian lives. Reliance on security companies and mercenaries, and the marginalization of specialized international organizations, has produced one of the worst experiences in the history of humanitarian work.
The project not only failed, but also revealed the ugly face of the exploitation of humanitarian action as a weapon of war. If the responsible parties are not held accountable, hunger and bullets will continue to be the price civilians pay.

Before the end of this project is recorded in the documents of international courts, this scandal, which is being written today with the blood of the hungry, not with ink, must stop.

The Israeli army intercepts the ship "Madeleine" and arrests its passengers.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition announced on Monday that the volunteers aboard the ship "Madeleine" were "kidnapped by Israeli forces." The coalition called for urgent pressure on relevant foreign ministries to ensure the safety of the activists and secure their release.

Sources from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition reported that contact with the ship "Madeleine" was completely lost early Monday morning. They explained that Israeli forces boarded the ship and arrested its crew, as it continued sailing toward the shores of the Gaza Strip carrying humanitarian aid.

Israeli reports indicated, early Monday morning, that forces from the Israeli army's Shayetet 13 naval commando unit seized control of the ship "Madeleine" at sea and led it toward the port of Ashdod. No casualties were reported on either side, Israeli media reported.

Katz directs the army to show footage of the October 7 attack on the Madeleine passengers.

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said in a statement Monday that he had instructed the Israeli military to show what he described as a "film of the atrocities" that occurred on October 7 to passengers on the Madeleine, which was towed to the port of Ashdod after being seized.

"It is fitting that anti-Semitic (Swedish activist) Greta Thunberg and her Hamas-supporting friends see exactly which terrorist organization they came to support, what atrocities it committed against women, the elderly, and children, and who Israel is fighting," Katz said.

Katz praised the "swift and safe capture of the Madeleine ship, preventing it from breaching the blockade and reaching Gaza's shores," stressing that "the army will continue its war against Hamas's killers with all its moral justice until it is eliminated, all hostages are freed, and the security of the State of Israel is guaranteed."

Amid intense Israeli airstrikes over the Madeleine and provocations that included spraying an unknown white substance on its surface, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition reported earlier that the Israeli military had jammed the ship's communications signals bound for Gaza.

For its part, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced early Monday that the ship "Madeleine," which the Israeli military seized while en route to the Gaza Strip, was "safely sailing toward the Israeli coast," and said that the activists on board were expected to be "returned" to their countries.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry had previously announced that the Navy had contacted the ship's crew via an international civilian communications system and issued instructions to change its course, claiming it was approaching a "restricted zone," in preparation for "seizing" the vessel.

The UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, said in televised remarks that the boat "Madeleine" did not pose any security threat to Israel, stressing that Israel "has no legal authority to stop it in international waters."

Earlier on Monday morning, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories, Albanese, announced that five Israeli naval boats had surrounded the "Madeleine" ship, part of the Freedom Flotilla, which was heading to the Gaza Strip.

Albanese noted that the ship's captain urged the crew to remain calm, stay seated, and put on their life jackets. The Madeleine crew also informed the Israeli forces that the ship was carrying humanitarian aid and that they intended to leave safely.

For his part, Zaher Birawi, head of the International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza, said that Israeli commando boats approached the ship, noting that they had not yet approached very closely. However, he suggested that this move was likely a prelude to an operation to seize the "Madeleine" in the coming hours.

French Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan posted a video from the ship, in which the sound of sirens could be heard, and wrote, "They are here." Activist Thiago Avila reported from the ship, "We are now surrounded by Israeli naval vessels."

Sources in the coordination room reported that there was no direct contact between the Israeli military boats and the Madeleine, which was heading towards the Gaza Strip, despite the vessels approaching the ship for a period of time and then departing.

Activist Thiago Avila, one of the ship's passengers, said in statements issued early Monday that the boats approached the Madeleine in territorial waters near the Egyptian coast, but did not initiate any contact or intervention and left without any confrontation.

For her part, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Palestine, Albanese, said she had spoken again with the Madeleine's crew and confirmed that the situation is calm and safe at this stage, while speedboats continue to monitor the ship from a distance without disrupting its course.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry accused those on board the Gaza-bound ship "Madeleine" of seeking "media propaganda" rather than providing humanitarian aid, according to an English-language statement issued early Monday.

"The maritime area off the coast of Gaza is closed to shipping traffic. The yacht claims to be carrying humanitarian aid, but it is in fact a media stunt for propaganda purposes," she continued. "We call on all parties to act responsibly and send aid through available mechanisms, not through provocative actions."

French Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan, aboard the Madeleine, a ship bound for the Gaza Strip, said that a drone hovered over the ship and dropped a white liquid on those on board. Activist Avila stated that "the white liquid dropped by the drones is intended to intimidate passengers and obstruct the boat's visibility."

Israeli media reported on Sunday evening that members of the Shayetet 13 naval commando unit made preparations to seize the Freedom Flotilla ship, the Madeleine, before it approached the coast of the Gaza Strip.

According to Israeli reports, the Israeli Navy intends to issue a warning to the ship's passengers before they enter its economic waters, warning them against entering "Israeli borders without permission," and will ask them to change course and return.

According to reports, "If the activists comply with the demands, they will be released. If they refuse, Shayetet 13 fighters will take control of the ship and escort it to the port of Ashdod," paving the way for their airlift.

Israel's Channel 14 reported on Sunday evening that Israeli security services had decided to carry out a "quiet" takeover of the ship "Madeleine" within the next few hours. According to the report, the ship will be towed to the port of Ashdod, and the activists will then be quickly deported by plane to their home country. The exact date of the operation or the number of participants was not specified.

The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan 11) reported on Sunday evening that members of the Israeli Navy's elite unit, Shayetet 13, conducted exercises simulating a "non-violent takeover" of the ship "Madeleine," noting that the ship was expected to be close to the Gaza coast tonight.

"We will take control of the ship nonviolently, arrest them, and then deport them abroad that same night," Kan 11 quoted a senior Israeli security official as saying Sunday evening. The official noted Israeli estimates that the operation will be documented and followed live on a widely circulated global network.

Several participants in the trip confirmed that they will continue their efforts to break the siege and deliver symbolic aid to the residents of the besieged Gaza Strip.

Turkish activist Hussein Shoaib said from aboard the ship: "We are still advancing toward Gaza. These are crucial hours for us. We will be there tomorrow if we are not hindered."

15 dead since dawn in a series of attacks targeting aid seekers and populated areas in Gaza.

The death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to at least 15 since Monday morning, as a result of shelling and sporadic attacks targeting residential areas and gatherings of citizens waiting for food aid, amid an ongoing escalation.

Eight civilians were killed near an aid distribution center west of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip. Three others were killed and several others injured when aid seekers were targeted at the Dawla junction in the Zeitoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City.

The bombing also resulted in the death of a civilian and injuries in the al-Tuffah neighborhood in the eastern part of the city, in addition to three other martyrs in a bombing that targeted civilians in the al-Shuja'iyya neighborhood, while local sources documented the deaths and injuries as a result of targeting with bombs dropped from a "quadcopter" aircraft on the old Gaza Street in the town of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, an officer, a police officer, and a third civilian were killed, and others were injured, as a result of Israeli shelling targeting a police force while performing its duties in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip last night, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior and National Security on Monday.

The Gaza government responds to Israeli allegations of a tunnel under the European Hospital.

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip denied the Israeli occupation army's allegations regarding the existence of a tunnel under the European Hospital in the southern Gaza Strip.

He confirmed that army forces had excavated the site and placed a pipe, which they later claimed was a tunnel, and filmed a mock scene near the hospital's emergency department.

The government office said in a statement on Sunday that the occupation's narrative is "fabricated, flawed, and full of loopholes and fabricated allegations, and does not stand up to even the slightest degree of scrutiny and logic."

The office explained that the video published by the Israeli army shows the mouth of the alleged tunnel as "a narrow iron tube, too narrow for even a person to pass through, containing no stairs or equipment, and in no way suitable for a tunnel."

He confirmed that the area shown in the video clip is a "rainwater drainage area."

He explained that the Israeli army had dug excavations at the site, "placed the pipe, and filmed a scene near the hospital's emergency department, which was crowded with patients and visitors."

The government office pointed to previous Israeli allegations of tunnels under Al-Shifa Hospital, where only an old well was found. The army attempted to portray it as a tunnel. It also did the same at Hamad Hospital, where it promoted a water room as a tunnel.

He continued, saying that in previous instances, "the truth was quickly revealed and the falsity of the Israeli claims was exposed."

Refuting the Israeli narrative, the government office said that Israel "previously announced its intention to destroy the health system and admitted to using bunker-busting bombs weighing more than 40 tons to destroy the infrastructure of the European Hospital. So how could intact, unburned bodies be displayed at a site the occupation claims to have bombed with such ferocity?"

The office pointed out that the video clip published by the Israeli occupation army included an unprofessional cut-and-paste process, as the scene at second 14 is completely different from what it appears at second 15.

He stressed that these Israeli lies will not conceal "the grave crime of targeting the health system and committing systematic war crimes against civilians and vital civilian facilities."

For its part, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor accused the Israeli occupation army of repeating propaganda lies, asserting that the clip was "fabricated and lacked any real evidence."

"What was reported in the video is no different from previous accounts used to justify the storming of Al-Shifa and Al-Nasr hospitals, which were later proven—by the occupation's own admission—to be false," said Rami Abdo, head of the Observatory, in a post on the X platform on Sunday.

He added, "The hole visible in the clip does not appear to be a tunnel in any way. It does not include a ladder, nor could it have been used to transport fighters up or down. Furthermore, it would have been impossible to dig it in a crowded hospital without medical staff or patients noticing."

On Saturday, the Israeli occupation army released a video of a tunnel it claimed was located beneath the European Hospital, which it claimed contained a Hamas command and control center.

Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee claimed in a statement that "numerous documents were found, including command and control rooms, combat equipment, and additional intelligence documents," in addition to "several bodies whose identities are being examined."

It's worth noting that on May 14, the Israeli occupation army committed a horrific massacre, killing 34 Palestinians and wounding dozens more, after launching a series of violent raids targeting the Gaza European Hospital and its surroundings in Khan Yunis.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza warns of the collapse of the remaining health institutions in the Strip.

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip warned on Sunday that Al-Shifa Medical Complex and Al-Ahli Arab Hospital are at risk of being out of service within 24 hours.

The ministry said in a statement that the shutdown of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex and the Arab Ahli Hospital meant the collapse of the remaining healthcare facilities in Gaza City. However, the ministry later announced that the Al-Shifa Complex had been supplied with limited quantities of fuel sufficient for only three days.

The ministry noted that the fuel at Nasser Medical Complex is sufficient for no more than two days, and called on relevant authorities to take urgent action and pressure Israel to allow the entry of fuel and oil for the hospitals' generators.

Earlier today, the ministry announced that the death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip had risen to 54,880 since October 7, 2023.

The ministry said in a daily statistical report that 108 people were killed and 393 injured in the past 24 hours as a result of Israeli shelling.

Hebrew media: US-Israeli agreement to end UNIFIL's mission in southern Lebanon

Hebrew media reported on Sunday that the United States and Israel have agreed to call for an end to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission in southern Lebanon, with a final decision expected to be made by the UN Security Council in August.

The privately owned Hebrew newspaper, Israel Hayom, reported that Israel and the United States have decided to end the mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which has been stationed in southern Lebanon since 1978.

The newspaper noted that "Israel has decided to join the US administration's position calling for the end of the mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which has been stationed in southern Lebanon since 1978 following the Litani Operation."

UNIFIL was established in 1978, pursuant to UN Security Council Resolutions 425 and 426, following the Israeli invasion of southern Lebanon. Its mission was to ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces, restore international peace, and assist the Lebanese state in restoring its authority in the area.

After Israel's full withdrawal in 2000, the force remained to monitor the border areas. Following the 2006 war between Lebanon and Israel, it was redeployed under the terms of Resolution 1701, to include supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces in implementing the deployment in the south, monitoring the cessation of hostilities, and facilitating humanitarian assistance to the civilian population.

Israel Hayom claimed that UNIFIL "has not actually succeeded in preventing the arming of armed groups in the area throughout its operation, which both Washington and Tel Aviv consider a failure to achieve security objectives."

The newspaper said, "The United States is seeking to reduce the costs of operating the force."

She claimed that "Israel considers coordination with the Lebanese army sufficient, and therefore there is no longer a real need for UNIFIL's presence."

As of 17:30 (GMT), the United States, Israel, and the UN force have not commented on what was reported by the Hebrew newspaper.

The final decision on UNIFIL's fate is expected to be made by the UN Security Council in August 2025, according to the same newspaper.

UNIFIL currently conducts regular patrols along the border between Israel and Lebanon. It comprises approximately 10,000 personnel from more than 50 countries, whose mission is to reduce tensions between Hezbollah and the Israeli army.

Last May, UNIFIL expressed concern over Israeli attacks on its property and personnel in southern Lebanon, the latest of which involved the firing of two shots, one of which hit a UNIFIL base south of the Lebanese border village of Kfar Shuba.

This was the first incident in which a UNIFIL position was directly hit since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon (Hezbollah) came into effect on November 27, 2024.

On October 8, 2023, Israel launched an aggression against Lebanon, which escalated into a full-scale war on September 23, 2024, resulting in more than 4,000 deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries, in addition to the displacement of approximately 1.4 million people.

Since the ceasefire began, Israel has committed at least 2,777 violations, leaving at least 199 dead and 491 wounded.

While the Lebanese army continues its deployment in the south in implementation of the agreement, Israel has reneged on its commitment to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by February 18, in violation of the agreement, and has continued to occupy five major Lebanese hills within the areas it occupied during the last war.

For decades, Israel has occupied territories in Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria, and refuses to withdraw from them and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, along the pre-1967 borders.

Turkish activist on board the Madeleine: We cling to the hope of entering Gaza on Monday

A Turkish activist aboard the "Madeleine" ship, part of the Freedom Flotilla coalition that set out to break the blockade on the Gaza Strip, confirmed their hope of entering Gaza tomorrow, Monday.

In a video call with Anadolu Agency, activist Hussein Shuaib said, "We are still advancing toward Gaza. We don't have much left. These are crucial hours for us. We will be in Gaza tomorrow, God willing, if we don't encounter any obstacles."

Shoaib stressed that their morale is good, adding, "We don't think much about what will happen to us. We still have hope of entering Gaza."

Regarding Israel's statements that it would arrest and deport the ship's passengers, he said: "We had great hope when we set out. We believed that real sanctions could be imposed (on Israel) and that we would be effective in delivering real humanitarian aid and lifting the siege (on Gaza). We are entering our last day, and I believe that they (Israel) will continue to act illegally."

Shoaib stressed that they are peaceful activists, are not skilled at fighting or carrying weapons, and do not pose any threat to anyone.

"Of course, they can still attack us, threaten us, use physical violence, they can try to kill us, but as you know, we've seen this before. Even the slightest reaction a person shows to defend themselves is considered terrorism to them," he added.

He continued: "We train ourselves not to show any defensive reaction even when they hit us. We do not intend to show any facial expression that would provide them with excuses or justifications."

Shoaib pointed out that the Israeli authorities did not contact them directly.

He added, "They don't contact us, but we receive news from their private media accounts, and we know they are following the process."

A few days ago, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that Israel had decided to prevent the Madeleine, a ship that had set sail from Italy in an attempt to break the blockade on the Gaza Strip, from approaching or docking off the coast of the Strip.

According to the authority, there was an initial move to allow the ship to reach Gaza as long as it did not pose a "security threat," but the decision was later changed "to prevent the creation of a precedent that could be repeated."

The ship is carrying 12 people, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and Irish actor Liam Cunningham.

On May 2, the Al-Dumayr ship was attacked by a drone while attempting to break the blockade, causing a hole in its hull and a fire in its bow, according to sources in the coalition organizing the voyage.

Through a deliberate policy paving the way for forced displacement, Israel is starving 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza by closing the crossings to humanitarian aid, particularly food, since March 2, according to the government media office in the Strip.

With full American support, Israel has been committing genocidal crimes in Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 180,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, more than 11,000 missing, and hundreds of thousands displaced.

Qassam Brigades announces the killing of two Israeli soldiers, and Hamas speaks of a war of attrition.

The Al-Qassam Brigades announced that its fighters killed two Israeli soldiers at point-blank range on Al-Nazzaz Street (east of the Shujaiya neighborhood) in the Gaza Strip last Tuesday. For its part, Hamas said that the endless war Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wanted would be his political and personal downfall.

The Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, had previously announced that it had targeted an Israeli D9 bulldozer with a 105 mm Al-Yasin missile on Saturday near the Yarmouk site in the Al-Manara neighborhood of Khan Yunis (southern Gaza Strip).

In a parallel context, a group calling itself the "Martyr Muhammad al-Deif Brigades" released a video clip that it claimed showed it targeting Israeli army forces in the Gaza Strip with three rockets.

war of attrition

For its part, Hamas said that the war the Israeli Prime Minister wanted to be endless has become a daily burden, and that his political and personal end will come after the illusion of a quick resolution has been shattered.

She also stated that the occupation's escalation of military operations is exacerbating its losses and pushing its prisoners into the unknown. She argued that the only solution is a comprehensive deal, which Netanyahu rejects.

Hamas added that the absolute victory Netanyahu is talking about is nothing but an illusion intended to mislead his audience, asserting that the resistance is waging a war of attrition in response to the genocide against civilians, surprising the "enemy" daily with new battlefield tactics.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, with American support, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in the deaths and injuries of more than 180,000 Palestinians—mostly children and women—and more than 11,000 missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, a famine that has claimed the lives of many, including children, and widespread destruction.

Washington links Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon to the withdrawal of Hezbollah's weapons.

There is widespread concern in Lebanon that the United States will refrain from intervening directly or through the international monitoring committee overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement with Israel. This could prevent Israel from expanding its airstrikes, as occurred recently in Beirut's southern suburbs. This is particularly true given that these raids were the most violent, resulting in the destruction of several residential buildings, despite Israel's claim that it targeted the basements, which Hezbollah uses to manufacture drones.

Lebanese concerns were heightened by the fact that Israel had previously informed the United States of its intention to target these buildings, which it later emerged were not used by Hezbollah to manufacture drones.

This is what Washington acknowledged by directing blame at Tel Aviv, as official Lebanese sources told Asharq Al-Awsat, on the grounds that its pretexts were not valid.

Blame without pressure

However, the US rebuke of Israel will not be used to pressure it to halt its attacks, given fears of their expansion in the absence of deterrent controls. This is compounded by the failure of the oversight committee to monitor violations and deter Israel from continuing them. Hezbollah stands behind the Lebanese state in its diplomatic efforts to compel Israel to withdraw, and refrains from responding to its violations of the ceasefire.

Therefore, Washington's blaming of Israel will not change the reality on the ground, as long as it enjoys American cover that allows it to continue its pressure on Lebanon to compel it to set a timetable for the withdrawal of Hezbollah's weapons and link it to its withdrawal from the south. This is despite the fact that President Joseph Aoun is committed to his pledge to keep weapons exclusively in the hands of the state and will not back down from it.

This automatically applies to the government of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. Both insist on maintaining exclusive control in the hands of the state, with no partner, and call on the international community, led by the United States, to pressure Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon.

In this context, ministerial sources say that President Aoun is steadfast in his position and is communicating with Hezbollah's leadership in preparation for a dialogue aimed at ensuring the exclusive possession of arms by the state once the appropriate conditions for its implementation are ripe.

Party choice

Sources confirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the party has no choice but to engage in serious dialogue, which is not intended to buy time while awaiting the outcome of the US-Iranian negotiations on the nuclear issue. However, it is impossible to link the dialogue to Lebanese efforts to monopolize arms control in the hands of the state in order to extend its sovereignty over all its territory.

She points out that the government's accusation of being slow to withdraw Hezbollah's weapons is inaccurate and rather unfair and prejudiced, given Israel's refusal to implement the ceasefire agreement. Unless the two sides are required to engage in a bloody confrontation with a large segment of the Lebanese population, this will not achieve its intended goals, as it will plunge the country into a political crisis that threatens civil peace and destabilizes the country.

Stick to the oversight committee

Sources confirm that Lebanon is committed to the continued presence of the oversight committee overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire. It views the Army Command’s statement, which threatened to refrain from accompanying the committee in inspecting sites for dismantling if it is confirmed that they are being used by Hezbollah to store weapons as part of its military infrastructure, as part of an effort to urge Israel to intervene with Israel to halt its violations and prevent them from expanding. This comes amid legitimate fears that they are poisoning the atmosphere with the arrival of summer, which the Lebanese are looking forward to, revitalizing the economy and lifting Lebanon out of the stagnation it is mired in.

Sources point out that the promised dialogue with Hezbollah to achieve arms monopoly is part of Lebanon's national security strategy. It will not remain open-ended and is not intended to waste time, as Lebanon, in its current situation, cannot afford to miss the opportunity to extricate itself from its crises by electing Aoun as president and forming a government headed by Salam. The sources reveal that Aoun will not allow this opportunity to be wasted.

This is what he emphasized when he received foreign and Arab envoys who advised him to expedite the creation of conditions that would allow the state to monopolize arms without any partner. This is the reason behind interpreting this advice as part of setting a timetable for the party's disarmament.

Sources are asking about the absence of American action in Lebanon, specifically regarding everything related to the military scene resulting from the Israeli escalation, especially since Lebanon is going through the darkest circumstances with Washington relieving the US President’s Deputy Special Envoy to the Middle East, Morgan Ortagus, of her assignment to the Lebanese file. This has thrown the US Ambassador to Lebanon, Lisa Johnson, and with her the Lebanese state with all its institutions, into a state of confusion, waiting for Washington to send to Beirut, as rumored, the US Ambassador to Turkey, Thomas Barrack, who was recently appointed by US President Donald Trump as his special envoy to Syria, although no one has been informed of his arrival date.

double message

She also asks whether Israel, by expanding its raids, aims to send a double message with an American stamp:

The first is for Iran, under the pretext that its Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi's visit to Beirut will not allow it to regain its role in Lebanon. The second is for Hezbollah, lest it reconsider its calculations and act as if circumstances still allow it to restore its military capabilities to what they were before its support for Gaza, and that it is not permissible to go back. Note that Araqchi limited his interest to turning a new page between the two countries, and did not address the hot topics on the Lebanese agenda at the current stage. This means that he is convinced that the past has been turned over due to the transformations witnessed in the region and Lebanon.

Sources believe that the party has no justification for placing the country on a waiting list, pending the outcome of the Iranian-American negotiations, because what has been written for Lebanon has been written.

The principle of concomitance

In contrast, political sources are dealing with the lack of American action at this time, and Israel's authorization to do whatever it deems appropriate, from the perspective of preserving its security by destroying the party's remaining military capabilities. They are linking their withdrawal from the south to establishing a timetable for containing its weapons and keeping them exclusively in the hands of the state, without which it cannot extend its sovereignty over all its territories in accordance with Resolution 1701.

She asserts that senior state officials have informed her, as have several members of parliament who frequently visit Washington, that the White House is adopting the principle of coherence because it is made in the United States, and that Lebanon has no choice but to adhere to it as a mandatory path to drawing the political curtain on the Iranian era in the region with the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime and Lebanon entering a new political phase, one of the results of which has been the decline of the party after it miscalculated Israel's reaction to its support for Gaza.

Katz threatens activists on the blockade-breaking boat "Madeleine" and orders them to be prevented from reaching Gaza.

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz threatened activists participating in the "Madeleine" boat bound for the Gaza Strip as part of the campaign to break the siege on Sunday afternoon, demanding that they return to where they came from.

Katz explained that he had instructed the Israeli army to take the necessary measures to prevent the boat from reaching the shores of Gaza.

The International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza announced on Sunday that the Madeleine, a ship that set sail from Italy to break the blockade on the Palestinian enclave, has crossed areas along the Egyptian coast and is approaching the Gaza Strip.

The committee, representing one of the trip organizers, said on its X platform account: "We passed through the city of Alexandria (northern Egypt), and within hours we will be north of the city of Mansoura... heading to Gaza."

She pointed out that "the coming hours are the most critical hours of our journey to Gaza."

Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament who was on board the ship, shared photos of the voyage in a post on her Instagram account on Sunday.

Days ago, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (KAN 11) reported that Israel had decided to prevent the Madeleine, a ship that had set sail from Italy in an attempt to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip, from approaching or docking off the coast of the Strip.

On May 2, the Al-Dumayr ship was attacked by a drone while attempting to break the blockade, causing a hole in its hull and a fire in its bow, according to sources from the coalition organizing the voyage.

A farmer was injured after being attacked by occupation soldiers south of Bethlehem.

A farmer sustained bruises and wounds on Sunday after being attacked by Israeli occupation soldiers while he was on his land in the town of Al-Khader, south of Bethlehem.

Mahmoud Abdullah, a member of the Agricultural Cooperative Society in Al-Khader, reported that the occupation forces and a settler stormed the “Sahl Al-Rujum” area, near the intersection leading to the “Efrat” settlement to the south, and assaulted the citizen Khaled Muhammad Yaqoub Subaih (63 years old) while he was on his land with his wife and daughter.

Abdullah added that the occupation forces detained Subaih's wife and daughter for some time, then took him to the vicinity of the Daniel settlement before releasing him, leaving him alone, suffering from his injury, until he was transferred to a hospital in Bethlehem.

It's worth noting that since the start of the aggression on the Gaza Strip, farmers in the town of Al-Khader have been prevented from accessing their lands. They have been assaulted, arrested, and their crops confiscated.

Trump orders deployment of National Guard in Los Angeles to suppress protests against immigrant detention

US President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops on Saturday to counter escalating protests against law enforcement raids on undocumented immigrants in the Los Angeles area, a move the California governor described as "provocative."

Federal police officers clashed with angry crowds in a Los Angeles suburb as protests continued for a second night on Saturday, with stun grenades being fired, a stretch of highway being closed, and raids on undocumented immigrants reportedly underway.

Fox 11 News reported that the clashes erupted in the Paramount neighborhood after protesters gathered near a large home improvement store frequented by workers for daily services and used as a staging point by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

According to news reports and social media posts, federal police officers wearing gas masks fired stun grenades and tear gas at protesters.

Since taking office in January, Trump has implemented his pledge to crack down on undocumented immigrants, whom he has likened to "monsters" and "animals."

Late Saturday evening, Trump signed a memorandum to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops "to address the chaos that has been allowed to fester," according to a statement from White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.

The spokeswoman emphasized that "the Trump administration has a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal behavior and violence, especially when that violence targets law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs."

About an hour before the White House confirmed the deployment, California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, expressed his opposition to the move.

"This move is deliberately inflammatory and will only escalate tensions," he wrote on the X platform, adding, "We are in close coordination with the city and county, and there are currently no unmet needs."

The protests came a day after masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided businesses in various parts of Los Angeles, angering many, who demonstrated and clashed with police for hours.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged that some city residents are "frightened" by the actions of the federal immigration agency.

“Everyone has the right to peaceful protest, but let me be clear: violence and destruction are unacceptable, and those responsible will be held accountable,” she said on the X platform.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced several arrests following Friday's clashes.

He wrote on the X platform: "You bring chaos, we bring the handcuffs. Law and order will prevail."

On Saturday, amid chants demanding the exit of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, some protesters waved Mexican flags, while others set fire to an American flag, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Cement blocks and overturned shopping carts formed roadblocks.

Authorities later closed side roads to prevent protesters from taking over the highway.

Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff and an anti-immigration campaigner, described what is happening in a post on the X platform as "a rebellion against the sovereignty and laws of the United States."

Los Angeles, the second most populous city in the United States, is one of the most demographically diverse cities in the country.

According to official data, 82% of the population of Paramount, which has a population of approximately 50,000, is of Hispanic or Latino origin.

Thousands of volunteers will set out tomorrow from Tunisia towards the Rafah crossing to demand an end to the war.

A convoy of thousands of volunteers will set off from Tunisia tomorrow, Monday, heading toward the Rafah crossing to demand an end to the Israeli war of extermination, an end to the blockade, and the entry of aid.

The Joint Action for Palestine Coordination Committee in Tunisia said that a Maghreb land convoy comprising thousands of volunteers will depart from the capital, Tunis, the eastern city of Sousse, Sfax, and Gabes to the southern city of Ben Guerdane, heading towards the Gaza Strip, passing through Libya and Egypt. The convoy will express solidarity with the besieged Palestinian people in the Strip and deliver humanitarian aid to them.

She added, "The convoy participants will head to the Ras Jedir crossing on the Tunisian-Libyan border, then travel along the Libyan coastal road to Cairo, then to the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian-Palestinian border, to deliver messages of solidarity and aid to Palestinians in Gaza."

Trade union and political figures, as well as human rights activists, lawyers, doctors, media professionals, and members of youth organizations will participate in this land convoy.

The coordination also published the departure schedule from the capital, Tunis, and major Tunisian cities, as well as meeting and transit points through these cities.

On May 31, Wael Nawar, spokesperson for the "Resilience Caravan," reported that thousands of people from Tunisia and the Maghreb countries had joined the convoy.

"The convoy will include delegations from Mauritania, Morocco, and Algeria, and thousands from Tunisia and Libya, and will pass directly to Cairo and then to Arish, Egypt, and Rafah (southern Gaza Strip)," Nawar said.

He confirmed that "the convoy had registered the participation of more than 7,000 people of various North African nationalities by May 30."

Tunisian organizations expressed their support for the caravan and their participation in it, most notably the Tunisian General Labor Union (the largest labor organization), the Tunisian Journalists Syndicate, the National Order of Lawyers in Tunisia, the Tunisian League for the Defense of Human Rights, the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, the Tunisian Order of Physicians, and the Tunisian Organization of Young Doctors.

Abu Shabab, a collaborator with the occupation, calls on Hamas to step down and claims to "protect the Palestinians."

Yasser Abu Shabab, the leader of a local Gaza militia backed by the Israeli occupation, declared that his group's goal is to "protect Palestinians from threats posed by Hamas," and emphasized his desire to expand its activities to other areas of the Gaza Strip, according to an interview he conducted with Israeli Army Radio on Sunday morning.

However, Abu Shabab denied any direct cooperation with the occupation, despite all indications to that effect, and called on Hamas to relinquish power in light of what he called "recent popular protests."

He stated that he works in cooperation with the Palestinian Authority, and claimed that hundreds of Palestinian families have moved to the area east of Rafah, where he claims to control it.

He stressed that "our relationship with the Authority is based on the supreme national interest of the Palestinian people and within the framework of its legal legitimacy."

He added, "We are conducting security checks through the Palestinian intelligence service, which is cooperating with us on this matter to ensure that Hamas elements do not infiltrate and could disrupt the liberation project from Hamas rule," he claimed.

Israeli reports revealed on Thursday military cooperation between Israel and an armed militia led by a Palestinian from the Gaza Strip named Yasser Abu Shabab, operating in the Rafah area in the southern Gaza Strip, with direct support from the Israeli military.

The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation and Army Radio reported that the militia members were armed with weapons confiscated from Hamas by Israel as part of what it described as a "plan for the next day in Gaza," approved by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israeli Army Radio quoted senior security sources as saying that "armed militias in the Gaza Strip are cooperating with Israel." The radio said that these militias are composed of "Palestinians from Gaza who are neither affiliated with Hamas nor Fatah, and are fighting against Hamas and helping secure aid distribution centers," referring to Yasser Abu Shabab's gang.

The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan 11) reported that Israel has been arming "local groups" in the Gaza Strip for weeks, describing them as "clans," under the pretext of confronting Hamas.

She added that this step comes as part of "an organized Israeli policy and efforts to confront Hamas."

According to Kan 11, "the operation's goal was to support opposition groups in the Gaza Strip working against Hamas rule," noting that the move "was carried out with Netanyahu's approval, without the knowledge of the cabinet and all security agencies."

Army Radio reported that Abu Shabab, a Palestinian resident of Gaza who is "not affiliated with Hamas," leads an armed militia operating in the Rafah area "under the auspices of the Israeli army."

She added that this group operates "with Israeli support and in areas controlled and occupied by the army," and is contributing to the fight against Hamas.

The radio station considered this move "a late Israeli plan for what is known as the 'day after' in the Gaza Strip," adding that "according to what was determined by the political level, a local Palestinian entity, neither affiliated with Hamas nor Fatah, was found willing to cooperate with Israel."

In recent days, photos and videos of members of the militia led by Abu Shabab have circulated. The images show individuals wearing helmets and protective vests that appear new and sophisticated, some in the olive-green color of the Israeli military uniform.

Amjad Shawa, director of the Gaza NGO Network, said Sunday morning that what is happening at aid distribution centers in the Gaza Strip poses a direct threat to the lives of residents, warning of the worsening famine imposed by the occupation.

Al-Shawa confirmed that more than 126 martyrs have fallen since the aid distribution centers began operating in the Gaza Strip, adding that "the occupation is misleading the world with aid centers to cover up the famine," emphasizing that "the Gaza Strip has reached an advanced stage of famine imposed by the occupation."

He explained that "the new aid distribution mechanism poses a direct threat to the lives of Gaza's residents," noting that "armed soldiers are running aid distribution centers in the Strip," and that "residents of the Strip are forced to go to these centers due to hunger."

Concluding his remarks, Amjad Al-Shawa called for "legal prosecution of the humanitarian organization that caused the deaths of 126 martyrs."
