The Israeli forces impose the Arnona tax on the residents of Al-Nu'man village

The Israeli authorities imposed the Arnona tax on the residents of the village of Al-Nu'man, east of Bethlehem, despite the fact that they hold the identity card of the Palestinian Authority.

Jamal Al-Darawi, the head of the local council in the village, told Al-Quds.com: “The Israeli authorities continue through their practices to isolate the village from its Palestinian reality, and these measures began more than twenty years ago when they surrounded it with the apartheid wall and erected an iron gate in the middle of it that defines its adult population.” Their number is about two hundred people. When do they leave the village and when do they enter it, imposing strict measures against them and limiting their movement towards their surroundings in the Bethlehem governorate.

He added: Since then, the village has already turned into a prison for its residents, whose connection with the surroundings is no longer easy at all levels, including access to their workplaces in Palestinian institutions or sending their children to educational institutions affiliated with the Authority, while at the same time they are unable to reach areas belonging to the Palestinian Authority. for Jerusalem.

And he pointed out that the occupation forces deal with the fact that the land belongs to the Jerusalem municipality, but without the residents who hold the Palestinian identity, and therefore forced them to pay the Arnona tax, known as the property tax, and the people continued to refuse to pay this tax until the occupation authorities began to take measures against them, including preventing them from leaving The village and the withdrawal of permits granted to workers who work in Israeli factories and workshops, or preventing them from obtaining permits to receive treatment in Jerusalem hospitals for citizens who need treatment in Jerusalem hospitals.

Al-Darawi said: "The matter developed recently, with the raiding of citizens' homes by employees of the Israeli Tax and Customs Department, along with employees of the Jerusalem Municipality and forces from the so-called Border Guards and the House Furniture Count in order to confiscate them. Faced with these terrible pressures, the residents began to pay the Arnona tax forcibly." And they feel that they are alone, wondering about the role of the Ministry of Jerusalem or the role of the Palestinian government as a whole in order to defend and protect the residents, not only in order not to pay the money of this exorbitant tax, but in order not to force them to leave, and then for the occupation authorities to seize the entire village and annex it to the municipal borders Jerusalem and bringing settlers in their place to live in this village, which has an area of about 1474 dunums, of which 1294 dunums are arable, while the area occupied by citizens’ homes is about 31 dunums.

And he indicated that the occupation authorities are trying to seize the village, annex it to the borders of the Jerusalem municipality, and bring settlers in their place to live in this village, which has an area of about 1474 dunums, of which 1294 dunums are arable.

Pointing out that the village is adjacent to the village of Sur Baher in occupied Jerusalem, but without any roads leading to this village and thus to the borders of the Holy City.

Al-Darawi explained that the amounts that the Israeli Customs and Tax Department and the Jerusalem Municipality began to collect from citizens are retroactive and years ago, indicating that the Israeli side seeks from all these practices is to impose a fait accompli policy, implement forced displacement, and evacuate the village, which is already exposed to the policy of apartheid and forced displacement. They already feel alone and up for grabs with this dangerous policy.

Caution in Israel after Netanyahu suspended the judicial reform process

A cautious calm prevailed in Israel on Tuesday, a day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the suspension of amendments related to judicial reform that have brought thousands of Israelis onto the streets over the past three months.

The protests were intensified after the General Federation of Trade Unions in Israel, Histadrut, announced the general strike, which many sectors began to join in succession.

"Out of my sense of national responsibility and my desire to prevent a rift among our people, I decided to freeze the second and third readings of the bill" in the Knesset, Netanyahu said in a radio interview.

Netanyahu's decision to suspend the legislative steps is considered a dramatic shift, especially since he announced just a day earlier the dismissal of the defense minister who had called for the same step.

Netanyahu's decision did not escape skepticism.

The head of the Israeli Democracy Institute pointed out that Netanyahu's move cannot be considered as expressing a desire for reconciliation.

"Maybe it's a cease-fire in order to remobilize and organize... and move forward," Yohanan Plesner added.

"He (Netanyahu) knew how with beautiful words to turn a crushing defeat into a draw," wrote the Yedioth Ahronoth daily.

"Israeli society is boiling, and what (Netanyahu) is proposing is nothing but a measure," Nachum Barnea wrote.

As for the opposition, led by Yair Lapid, it announced its willingness to "serious dialogue", but with conditions.

"If the legislation is truly and completely halted, we are ready to engage in serious dialogue," Lapid said in a televised speech.

The opposition refused earlier to negotiate the file of judicial reform, which it believes will give politicians broader power at the expense of the judiciary.

In a joint statement by Lapid and former Defense Minister Benny Gantz, the talks will stop immediately "if legal reforms are put on the Knesset's agenda."

The opposition has identified its representatives for the forthcoming negotiations, in a step that the Likud Party, led by Netanyahu, did not do.

"The aim is to reach an agreement," the prime minister said in a statement on Tuesday.

As for the demonstrators who used to go out every week to protest, they confirmed that they would continue to do so.

The "umbrella" protest movement considered Netanyahu's move a new attempt to shed light on the Israeli public in order to weaken the protest and impose dictatorship.

"We will not stop the protest until the judicial coup stops completely," she added in a statement.

For his part, Israeli President Isaac Herzog called for "real and responsible dialogue."

On Monday, he said he would host talks to find a settlement. His spokesman was unable to provide AFP with a timetable for the talks.

The crisis in the Hebrew state revealed deep divisions within the nascent right-wing government coalition, an alliance of right-wing and far-right parties.

As for Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, he stressed on Monday that "there will be no retreat" from the judicial reform.

Despite the demonstrations and the state of instability in the Jewish state, the far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir confirmed on Monday that the reforms "must not stop" and called on his supporters to mobilize support for them.

Ben Gvir threatened to withdraw from the government coalition.

According to Ben Gvir's Jewish Power Party, the decision to suspend the judicial reform talks involves an agreement to expand the powers of the minister.

Yossi Verter, a political correspondent for the left-wing Haaretz daily, wrote that Netanyahu's decision represented "a victory for the demonstrators, but the person who destroyed and trampled on Netanyahu is Itamar Ben Gvir."

The current crisis in the Hebrew state has affected the confidence of the Israeli public in the government that was sworn in last December only.

An opinion poll conducted by Israeli Channel 12 indicated that the right-wing Likud party, led by Netanyahu, fell by seven points.
The poll predicted that the government would lose a majority in the 120-seat parliament if elections were held.

As for the isolated defense minister, Yoav Gallant, his fate has not yet been known, but media reports indicate the possibility of his return to office.

On Monday, Gallant welcomed "the decision to stop the legislative process in order to hold a dialogue," according to what his office confirmed.

The Minister of Defense had indicated his concerns regarding Israel's security in case the government proceeded with the reform program, ignoring the protests.

The New York Times: American pressure behind Netanyahu's dissuade from judicial reform

The New York Times revealed Tuesday that in the 48 hours before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reluctantly postponed his efforts to reform Israel's judiciary, his government "was bombarded with warnings from the Joe Biden administration" that he was threatening Israel's reputation as the true democracy at the heart of the Middle East.

And in the statement released Sunday night, shortly after Netanyahu fired his defense minister because he broke with the government over judicial reform, the White House noted that President Biden told Netanyahu by phone a week ago that democratic values "have always been, and must remain, the hallmark of of the relationship between the United States and Israel" and that major changes to the system should "be pursued with the widest possible base of popular support".

According to the report, the statement was remarkable because in normal times, the official line of the White House - be it a Democrat or a Republican - is that Washington does not interfere in the domestic politics of its allies. In this case, Biden and his advisers dropped all pretensions, putting themselves at public odds with Netanyahu, even though he has positioned himself in conversations with administration officials as a man desperately looking for compromise.

Privately, the talks with the Netanyahu government were more candid, administration officials said, "suggesting that Israel's image as the only democracy in the Middle East was at stake."

The newspaper notes that "the US ambassador to Israel, Thomas R. Nidis, who has deep roots in the Democratic Party that goes back to the Clinton administration, spent the weekend relaying messages from Biden and his staff. Brett McGurk, the White House's chief Middle East official, was And who has worked with both Democratic and Republican presidents, is in frequent contact with Israel's ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog" to pass on this message.

And the newspaper reveals that, “By Sunday night (3/26), White House officials had reached two conclusions: The first is that Netanyahu grossly miscalculated when he announced the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who had publicly called for a suspension of efforts to pass legislation that would It changes the way judges are appointed. The second conclusion, they said, “is that Netanyahu was looking for a way out of the crisis, and benefited from telling right-wing partners in his fragile coalition that he could not risk losing the support of Israel’s most important ally… His message, said one senior official, was That Israel may soon face a crisis with Iran, which is closer than ever to acquiring nuclear weapons, and that he cannot afford to alienate Washington.

So when Netanyahu declared Monday in Israel that "when there is a possibility to prevent a civil war through dialogue," he would "take time for dialogue," they read it as a message to far-right members of his coalition that he had no other choice, according to the report.

The newspaper quotes one senior official as saying that “Netanyahu has put himself in an impossible predicament, telling American officials and the Israeli public that he was looking for a compromise, and yet trying to assemble the members of the right-wing coalition he needs to stay in power — and who refused to back down, and at the heart of the dispute.” There was a fundamental debate about the nature of democracy, including changes that Netanyahu had never seemed enthusiastic about before — but he had to step back to keep his right-wing coalition together.

The newspaper indicates that Netanyahu insisted that stripping the Israeli Supreme Court of the power to veto laws passed by the Israeli Knesset was necessary to promote true democracy - although he had to suspend this effort a week ago. Changes to how judges were appointed, and to make it more difficult to remove a prime minister, seemed to many critics to place unfettered power in the hands of the government.

The proposed reform also came as Netanyahu is on trial on corruption charges, and some fear he may use the changes to extricate himself from his legal troubles.

However, “the Biden team had a more immediate concern. There was an acute awareness that Netanyahu was expected to participate in a second Biden Democracy Summit this week,” said one of the officials. Mr. Netanyahu while hundreds of thousands of Israelis protested that he was dismantling the constraints on his government's power."

The newspaper quotes Dennis Ross, a longtime Middle East negotiator who has worked with US presidents since the Ronald Reagan era, as saying that he is not sure how important a role Biden's arguments played because "pressure from within is much more important than pressure from without." But he noted that once Mr. Gallant announced the fact that IDF reservists were interrupting training missions with their units, the reaction to Netanyahu's legislative initiative became a matter of national security.

Ross said that Netanyahu could argue internally that "the Iranian nuclear threat has become more acute and Israel may soon have to deal with it and cannot afford the United States backing down over judicial reform."

The newspaper says, "President Biden has always been clear that he was separating issues of defending Israel from his differences with Netanyahu over preserving democratic institutions. And American forces participated in a major military exercise several weeks ago that was a clear message to Iran, even as protesters took to the streets in Israel".

But questions about the depth of Congressional zeal to defend Israel have always lurked in the background, especially with the progressive side of the Democratic Party raising doubts about the wisdom of US military aid, at a time when the Netanyahu government was declaring that Jewish settlements in the disputed areas would be permanent.

Russia confirms that Ukraine has deployed long-range American missiles

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that it had shot down a US long-range GLSDB missile, in the first confirmation that the weapons had been delivered to Ukraine , which it deems necessary to launch a counterattack.

"The anti-aircraft defense shot down... 18 HIMARS missiles and a GLSDB guided missile," the ministry said in a statement about these missiles, which have a range of 150 kilometers, and the United States promised to deliver them to Kiev in early February.

The Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb, which means "the small-diameter bomb launched from the ground", is a small-diameter, high-precision device manufactured by the American companies "Boeing" and the Swedish "Saab". It can fly up to 150 kilometers and thus threaten Russian positions, especially ammunition depots.

Ukraine insisted that it needs these weapons to destroy Russian supply lines and thus compensate for the shortage of its manpower and ammunition in preparation for its next counterattack to repel the Russian forces that occupy large parts of southern and eastern Ukraine.

Westerners were reluctant to deliver long-range missile systems to Ukraine for fear of using them to strike Russian territory and cause an escalation of the war.

But Kiev has pledged several times that it will only use it to attack targets in the occupied territories.

On February 3, the United States announced that it would deliver GLSDB missiles to Ukraine, without specifying a date.

The European Union gives its final approval to ban sales of new cars powered by fossil fuels

European Union countries gave final approval Tuesday to ban sales of new fossil-fuel cars from 2035, after Germany dropped its reservations.

The vote was a formality, after the ambassadors of the European Union countries, on Monday, endorsed the historic agreement.

The majority of the European bloc's ministers agreed to the ban on Tuesday during a meeting in Brussels, with Poland being the only opposition, and Bulgaria, Italy and Romania abstaining from the vote.

The historic agreement to ban sales of new cars powered by fossil fuels as of 2035 is of great importance in terms of the bloc's pioneering plan to transition to a "climate neutral" economy by 2050, with zero emissions of greenhouse gases.

But in an unprecedented move this month, Germany, the leading automaker, blocked the agreement at the last minute after it was approved according to the traditional legislative mechanism of the European Union.

Berlin called on Brussels to provide guarantees that the law would allow the sale of new cars that rely on fuel combustion engines, provided they consume synthetic fuel, according to the agreement announced on Saturday.

The synthetic fuels that Germany wanted exempt from the ban are still being developed and produced using low-carbon electricity.

The technology is unproven, but German manufacturers hope it will lead to broader use of combustion engines.

Observers believe that domestic political calculations are behind Germany's initial move to block the deal, to the chagrin of some of Berlin's European partners.

The Social Democratic Party, led by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, leads a coalition government with the Greens and Liberals defending the move.

On Saturday, the European Union and Germany announced that they had reached an agreement that puts an end to the dispute over a project to ban sales of new cars powered by fossil fuels, starting from 2035.

"With today's EU Council final vote, the European Union has taken an important step towards zero-emissions mobility," European Commission climate projects chief Frans Timmermans wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

The National Commission warns of the dangers of approving the formation of the so-called "National Guard"

The National Commission for Supporting Our People at Home warned of the so-called (Palestinian National Guard ) with the aim of suffocating and besieging the Palestinians inside.

The National Authority for the Support and Support of our Palestinian People at Home considered the fascist "Ben Ghafir"'s announcement yesterday of his agreement to postpone the judicial amendments in exchange for ratifying the establishment of the so-called "National Guard" and his direct subordination to it as a step towards further strangling and besieging the Palestinians of the occupied interior.

The commission considered that this declaration is a legitimization of the settler’s ongoing crimes against the Palestinians inside, and that the so-called National Guard is nothing but a terrorist organization whose first title of violence will be the Palestinians in the Negev, the coastal cities and the Galilee, and it will work to fight the Palestinians and carry out field executions and intimidate them.

The commission affirmed that our people will not allow Netanyahu's maneuvers and goals to preserve his ruling coalition, which will not be at the expense of our people and their inalienable and legitimate rights.

The Commission called on the components of the occupied interior to cohesion and unity in the face of these provocative steps, stressing at the same time that this step will be shattered in the face of the will and steadfastness of our people in the occupied interior, just as all previous terrorist plans were shattered.

The commission called on human rights organizations and bodies active in human rights to work in all international and local forums to expose the plans of the occupation against our people at home.

Dozens of schools closed in Bulgaria due to bomb threats

Bulgarian police said that dozens of schools across the country were ordered to close Monday and Tuesday after receiving email threats of bombs suspected of links to Russia .

"Investigators have come to a major conclusion that these are mixed attacks linked in some way to Russia," Interior Minister Ivan Demirdzhiev said.

The Bulgarian authorities asked for help from the intelligence services of their partners, especially the United States, in an attempt to find out the source of these threats, he added.

The authorities announced that the source of the email threats were Google accounts.

"There are TNT explosives placed in all schools. Your schools will explode soon. I hope you will die," said a message seen by Agence France-Presse.

The prosecutor's office said it was investigating a crime against the republic or terrorism and was working to determine the source of the attacks.

This warning led to the evacuation of dozens of students from schools in the capital, Sofia, and cities located on the Black Sea, Burgas, Varna, and Pleven in eastern Bulgaria, and Pleven in the north, which sparked a state of panic.

No explosives have yet been found in the schools.

In all, 102 explosive threats have been recorded since Monday.

These attacks come days before the general elections in Bulgaria on Sunday, when most polling stations were held in schools.
But the vote will go ahead as planned, unless an actual threat emerges, as confirmed by the interior minister.

North Korean leader wants to boost the production of nuclear materials for military purposes

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has urged his country's officials to boost production of nuclear material for military purposes, state media reported Tuesday, as Pyongyang unveiled a new, apparently smaller, tactical nuclear warhead.

Kim appeared in scenes broadcast by state media, surrounded by military generals, as he inspected a number of green warheads and a smaller size called "Hwasan-31", meaning volcano in Korean.

France condemned what it described as "North Korean provocations," and French Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Claire Legendre said Tuesday that she "takes note, with deep concern, of the renewed North Korean leader's call to accelerate North Korea's production of nuclear weapons," urging the country "to comply with its international obligations... .and immediately put an end to its destabilizing actions.”

North Korea has often sought technology that would enable it to "miniaturize" a warhead that could be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile to threaten the United States. Graffiti on the walls suggests this may be the case with Hwasan-31.
Kim listened to a briefing from officials at the Nuclear Weapons Institute, according to the official North Korean Central News Agency.

He called on the officials to "expand in a far-sighted way the production of nuclear materials intended for making weapons for the comprehensive implementation of the plan (...) to increase the nuclear arsenal exponentially."

Kim added, according to the agency's report, that when North Korea manufactures its nuclear weapons "without defects", "the enemy will fear us and will not dare to provoke the sovereignty of our country, our system and our people."

Experts said that the disclosure of a possible tactical nuclear weapon, carries indications of technical development and could hint at an imminent nuclear test.

Kim's remarks come ahead of the arrival of a group of US warships in South Korea on Tuesday.

And relations between the two Koreas are at their lowest levels in years, with Seoul and Washington promoting joint military exercises, while North Korea is conducting provocative weapons tests, and the South is responsible for the deteriorating security situation.

"The current hard-line approach is likely intended to justify their testing of new weapons and nuclear testing in the future," said Cheong Seong-chang, a researcher at the Sejong Institute.

And he believed that "North Korea revealed a clearly miniature tactical warhead this time."

"The possibilities of North Korea carrying out a seventh nuclear test with these tactical nuclear warheads as a next step have increased," he told AFP.

Pyongyang is conducting missile tests, which are a "response" to the US-South Korean military exercises. This represents a large and unsustainable financial burden on the poor country, according to one expert.

"North Korea has warned of a massive retaliation against every joint exercise of South Korea and the United States, but given the number of missiles fired, they can't go on forever," the professor at Ewha University, Seoul, told AFP.

"In that case, the seventh nuclear test will be an end of sorts. They will declare themselves a nuclear power and return to the negotiating table with the United States," he added.

North Korea's military on Monday conducted exercises simulating a nuclear attack using tactical ballistic missiles, according to a separate report by the official North Korean news agency, as part of an unprecedented number of tests since the beginning of the year.

"North Korea is sending a very coherent message. They are fighting for recognition as a pure nuclear power," Park said.

North Korea also seeks to diversify production of means capable of carrying its nuclear warheads, in addition to increasing its nuclear stockpiles.

On Tuesday, it said it had conducted a second successful test of a guided nuclear torpedo capable of pursuing underwater targets.

Last week, the first test of this new weapon, which bears the name "Haile", or "tsunami" in Korean, was announced, in response to the recent military exercises between the United States and South Korea, the largest in five years.
Seoul questioned those statements, and its military said it was "considering the possibility" that the experiment was exaggerated and even "fabricated".

There have been indications that "North Korea has developed unmanned submarines, but it is likely that they are still in the early stages," according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Pyongyang said Tuesday that the torpedo "Hebble" maneuvered underwater "for 41 hours and 27 minutes, following a simulated course of 600 km" before exploding with a target off North Hamgyong Province early Monday, according to the official KCNA news agency.
The agency said that the experiment "proved all the strategic characteristics of the weapon system, in addition to its safety and solidity."
Reports indicated that Russia has developed a similar weapon, the "Poseidon" guided nuclear torpedo, but the complex technology required for such weapons may exceed North Korea's capabilities, according to experts.

Russian oil exports to India increased 22 times in 2022

Russia announced on Tuesday that its oil exports to India increased 22 times in 2022, in an indication of its transformation into the giants of the Asian continent in the midst of the conflict in Ukraine .

Russia shifted its oil exports to India and China last year after European Union countries sought to end their dependence on Russian energy supplies after Moscow invaded neighboring Ukraine.

The European Union imposed an embargo on Russian oil exported by sea and set a ceiling for the price of Russian crude that was agreed upon with the Group of Seven.

This shift led to China and India getting Russian supplies at a lower price.

"Most of our energy resources have been redirected to other markets, to the markets of friendly countries," said Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Energy Affairs Alexander Novak.

Novak added, "If we take, for example, oil shipments to India, they increased 22 times last year."

Novak, who is in charge of Russia's energy sector, noted that supplies to China have also increased "as a result of the great effort that has been made in this field."

Russia, a major oil producer allied with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), cut its crude oil production by half a million barrels this month in response to Western sanctions.

Novak announced last week that this cut, which constitutes 5 percent of Russia's daily production, will continue until June.
He said that this step falls within the framework of responding to Western sanctions that target the oil sector to reduce Moscow's ability to finance its army.

The International Energy Agency said this month that Russia's oil revenues fell by almost half in February compared to last year.

An increase in cancer and tumors among prisoners since 2021

Today, Tuesday, the Captive Club confirmed that since 2021, prisoners have witnessed an increase in cancer and tumors to different degrees.

The club said in a statement: "About 24 prisoners suffer from cancer and tumors of varying degrees."

He added, "Part of these patients underwent tumor removal operations, and they need close health follow-up, and another part is waiting for a final diagnosis of the nature of the tumor, in addition to the case of the prisoner Yaqoub Qadri, who needs an operation to remove a (benign) tumor in the gland."

The club confirmed that among the injured prisoners are among the most difficult cases today (Asif Al-Rifai, Ahmed Abu Awad, Walid Daqqa, Ali Al-Hroub, and Musa Soufan).

The prisoner, Asif Al-Rifai (20 years) from Ramallah, is the most difficult case. He was arrested while he was suffering from cancer. Several months after his arrest, medical reports showed that the disease had spread to several parts of his body. He had recently started receiving (chemotherapy) treatment and was confined to (Asaf) Hospital. Harofeh, the Israeli, with the escalating risks to his life and fate, in light of his continued detention in the so-called (Ramle prison clinic). ‏

Al-Rifai was arrested last September, and the journey of deprivation of treatment began before his arrest, as a result of his persecution, and their refusal to provide him with a permit to enter Jerusalem. Like all sick prisoners, he faced delays in conducting the necessary medical examinations for him after his arrest, as well as his transfer to receive treatment.

As for the prisoner Ahmed Abu Awad (52 years) from Gaza, who was arrested on March 21, while he was on his way to treatment at Al-Mutala Hospital in Jerusalem, he suffers from bone cancer, kidney failure, and a fracture in his shoulder, and his family confirms that medical reports indicate that The dangers to his fate and life are escalating every hour, and he is in a very advanced stage of the disease. The detainee, Abu Awwad, is married and has five children. He works as an electrical engineer.

The Prisoner's Club stated that about 700 sick prisoners in the occupation prisons who were diagnosed over the past years, face difficult health conditions, including about 200 who suffer from chronic diseases, and there may be dozens of prisoners who suffer from diseases that have not been diagnosed, as the policy of medical negligence constitutes ( Slow killing) is the most dangerous policy pursued by the Occupation Prisons Administration, and for that purpose it develops tools with the aim of killing prisoners.

The occupation demolished and seized 953 homes in Jerusalem and the West Bank during the past year

The Israeli occupation authorities demolished and seized 953 homes throughout the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem during the past year 2022, which is the highest statistic since 2016.

According to a report issued by the European Union today, Tuesday, the demolished buildings were more than 80%, with 781 buildings in Area C.

28,446 civilians were affected by the demolitions, while all but 35 buildings were built due to the lack of building permits, which is almost impossible for Palestinians to obtain in Area C and East Jerusalem.

According to the report, among the buildings targeted during the 12 months, 101 were funded by the European Union or EU member states (a value of 337,019 euros), which represents the third largest financial damage since 2016.

He said, "The number of buildings that were demolished by their owners, by an Israeli decision, increased significantly, from 34% in 2021 to 51% in 2022 in occupied Jerusalem."

The report confirms that Area C is witnessing a rise in targeted buildings located in Bedouin and herding communities, and expresses concern that the buildings will be seized based on Israeli Military Order 1797, which provides only 96 hours' notice and very limited grounds to legally challenge the demolition.

He added, "It was noted that there was an increase in the demolition of buildings in Areas A and B, on punitive grounds, as demolition orders were issued in Masafer Yatta and Al-Walaja, which constituted great concern for their residents."

He pointed out that this report was from 6 years ago, which was recorded in 2022, when settler violence increased, and 849 settlement incidents were recorded in 2022, which represents an increase of 58% compared to 2021 and an increase of 123% compared to 2020.

The US Senate votes to end the Iraq war

The US Senate voted overwhelmingly on Monday in favor of legislation rescinding authorizations for the 1991 and 2002 Iraq wars, as Congress pushes to regain its role in deciding whether to send US combat forces out of the United States, Reuters reported.

The legislation won 65-28 in the vote on completing debate on the legislation, more than the 60 votes required in the 100-member Senate, paving the way for a vote on its approval later this week.

All votes against the legislation were Republicans.

Congress has been debating for years about the Senate ceding too much power to both Republican and Democratic presidents over whether to send troops into combat by passing "open" authorizations to wage war and then failing to revoke them, according to Reuters.

Under the US Constitution, Congress, not the president, can declare war.

Supporters of the current bill call the authorizations for the use of military force for 1991 and 2002 against Iraq automatic “zombie” licenses, without review, and say that these licenses are outdated and inappropriate, given that the wars ended long ago and that Iraq is now a partner of the United States. United.

March 20th marks the twentieth anniversary of the start of the Iraq war in 2003.

Reuters quoted Democratic Senator Bob Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as saying before the vote that "revocation of these authorizations will show the region, and the world, that the United States is not an occupying power, that the war in Iraq is over, and that we are moving forward, working with Iraq." as a strategic partner.

Pain and sadness hang over the family of the wounded prisoner, Mahmoud al-Tarzi, during the month of Ramadan

The rituals of life differ in the house of the Tarzi family in the city of Jenin . Since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, the forty-year-old woman, Rehab Al-Tarzi, "Umm Al-Mahdi", used to bring a picture of her wounded captive son, Mahmoud Al-Tarzi , and set it on a chair in the place where he used to sit at her Ramadan table. To eat her breakfast with difficulty and pain, raising her palms towards the sky, and beseeching the Lord of the Worlds to honor Him with patience, steadfastness, and near freedom, so that He and her family may share with her the remaining days of the holy month, which turned, as she said: “sadness, pain, and tears. Sadness in our house, due to the absence of Mahmoud, the captive and wounded, whose news has been cut off, and we do not know his fate.

And she adds: "We live every moment, nightmares of anxiety and fear for his life, as they arrested him and he is still receiving treatment from the effects of their treacherous bullets, and everyone knows that the occupation practices a policy of neglect and refuses to treat patients, so what if his wound is still bleeding until the moment of his arrest?"

The wounded prisoner, Mahmoud III, is considered in his family of 8 members who live in the city of Jenin, according to the mother, Umm Mahdi, that he grew up and was raised there among his family, who loves and appreciates him very much, and is still experiencing the shock of his arrest and imprisonment.

She adds: "He received his education in Jenin schools until he finished middle school, then decided to take responsibility, sacrificed his future and education, and went out to work. He practiced several professions until he settled in one of the city's bakeries, and became the shepherd and breadwinner for our family, with whom he did not fail for a moment, and was very keen to provide All the necessities for a decent life are ours.”

The mother's tears flow, Um Mahdi, as she recalls the pictures and memories of the life and sacrifices of her son, who sacrificed for the sake of his family. During the Israeli aggression on the city of Jenin, the occupation soldiers targeted him, wounding him with four bullets in the foot.

She says: "He survived after he suffered severe bleeding, and underwent several operations, and during his treatment trip, we were surprised by his arrest, as dozens of occupation soldiers stormed our house at dawn hours, terrorizing children, adults, and women with their practices, then isolating us until the search operation ended, by snatching him from his bed despite his pain." And his suffering from their bullets, and they beat him during his unjust arrest.”

Since his arrest, the mother, Umm Mahdi, has moved between the prisoner institutions and the Red Cross, to demand that her son be rescued from the hands of the executioners. We feel that his life is in danger, because the Al-Jalama torture center will affect his life.”

She added: "At the request of the Israeli intelligence, the military court extended his detention 6 times, and despite the lawyer's submitting medical reports about his health and his need for treatment and follow-up, and warning him of the dangers of the cells on his conditions and life, the court refused to release him and he is still detained."

Hotter than embers, the mother awaits her son's freedom and his release from the prisons of the occupation , and she says: "Day and night, I cry and mourn, I can no longer sleep, and the days and moments of Ramadan have no taste or flavour. I am not satisfied with a drink of water or a bite of food, and my wounded son is in pain." He is far from us, and he is in dire need of care and follow-up because of his injury."

And she added, "We appeal to the prisoners' and human rights institutions to intervene and put pressure on the occupation to release him immediately, and to save him from the hell of prisons, and we hold the occupation fully responsible for his life."

James Webb measures the temperature of a rocky planet similar to Earth in a first-of-its-kind operation

The James Webb Space Telescope has succeeded in measuring the temperature of a rocky planet 40 light-years from our solar system, in a first-ever operation, a study reported Monday.

Discovered in 2017, the TRAPPIST-1 system includes seven planets orbiting a supercool red dwarf star that emits twice as much heat as the sun.

This planetary system is a major target of the James Webb Telescope, which was developed by the US Space Agency (NASA) and put into service in July 2022.

One of the telescope's tasks is to explore the atmospheres of potentially habitable exoplanets.

NASA said in a statement that "+ TRAPPIST-1 + is an excellent planet for testing," as it is close to the solar system and includes only rocky planets similar in size and mass to Earth.

However, knowing the characteristics of these planets is a difficult issue because it is not possible to observe the outer planets from a great distance, in contrast to the stars that revolve around them.

To observe it, astronomers resort to a method that consists in capturing differences in the brightness of the planet caused by it passing in front of its host star, similar to what happens in a small eclipse.

James Webb's "Merim" imaging device, which is capable of operating in the mid-infrared wavelength, was able to capture the so-called secondary eclipse when the planet passes behind its star, and in this case, the planet is "TRAPPIST-1b" closest to the star "TRAPPIST-1". Which is easy to study because it crosses a lot behind the star.

Elsa Ducros, an astrophysicist at the Commission for Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies and co-author of the study published in the journal "Nature", explains that "the largest brightness of the planet occurs moments before it disappears behind the star because it shows its day side almost exclusively."

By comparing the amount of light observed before and after the planet disappeared behind its star, the scientists deduced the amount of light emitted by the planet, which can only be detected in the mid-infrared wavelength, a wavelength astronomers have yet to explore that would detect the planet's heat emission.

NASA, whose astronomer, Thomas Green, prepared the study, commented that James Webb acts as a "giant non-contact thermometer."

Measuring the temperature of TRAPPIST 1b is the first such procedure for a rocky exoplanet.

The temperature on the daytime side of the planet was about 230 degrees Celsius, an indication that heat was not redistributed throughout the planet, a role usually played by the atmosphere,” according to the Commission for Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies, which designed the “Miriam” device.

And Ducron says that the conclusion is, therefore, that the planet "Trapiste 1b" "has little or no atmosphere," stressing the need to search in other wavelengths to reach a final result.

"What is certain is that the atmosphere, even if it is present in the planet, lacks carbon dioxide," she added.

James Webb's discovery bears the details of the failure of a previous telescope, "Spitzer", to reach it, "despite the observation of 28 secondary eclipses of +TRAPPIST -1b +".

And the scientist says, "James Webb deduced these details by observing one eclipse!"

She noted that James Webb, by studying the possibility of an atmosphere in a rocky planet, launches a "new phase" in the study of exoplanets.

Trappist 1b is located so close to its star that it could house life as we know it, and its monitoring may provide important information about other planets, according to NASA.

Among these planets are "TRAPPIST-1E", "TRAPPIST-1F" and "TRAPPIST-1G", which are located in a habitable zone, which is an area that is not very hot or cold, which allows the formation of liquid water in it, which is a prerequisite for life outside life. Planet Earth.

European Qualifiers 2024: Pavar guides France to the second victory, and the Netherlands compensates with a double

France returned from Dublin with its second victory in Group Two of the European Cup 2024 qualifiers at the expense of Ireland 3-0, while the Netherlands compensated for its harsh opening defeat by defeating the modest Gibraltar national team 3-0.
France began its qualifying campaign with a crushing 4-0 victory over the Netherlands, including a brace for its new captain Kylian Mbappe, top scorer of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, who was absent on Monday in a match that was the hero of Benjamin Pavard, who scored the only goal early in the second half.
The confrontation between the two teams always brings back the controversy that accompanied their meeting in the qualifying supplement to the 2010 World Cup when Thierry Henry touched the ball with his hand in the second leg before passing it to William Gallas, who scored the equalizing goal for France 1-1 in the first extra half (France won the first leg 1-0 Thus qualified for the finals.
The Irish resentment increased after that as a result of their exit from the final price of the 2016 European Cup at the hands of the “roosters” with a 1-2 loss after they were the first to score in the first minutes before Antoine Griezmann responded with a brace at the start of the second half, which was completed by Robbie Keane and his companions with ten players.
Despite the great French advantage, coach Didier Deschamps' men were unable to actually threaten the Irish goal until the 38th minute, when Griezmann was close to opening the scoring with a header after a cross from Pavard, but his attempt passed by the left post.
The Irish were active late in the first half and threatened the French goal with successive set pieces, but without reaching Mike Mignan's goal, so the first half ended in a goalless draw.
But the French struck at the beginning of the second half with a wonderful goal by Pavard, who killed the ball after a wrong pass from Joshua Cullen, before he fired a missile from the outskirts of the area, to bounce off the post and into the net (51).
The French were close to the second with a long shot from Adrien Rabiot, but goalkeeper Gavin Bazuno excelled in defending his own goal (76), before the homeowners woke up in the final minutes without success, only to fall in their first test in this group after Minyan shone in blocking Colin's header in the time killer.
"It's always difficult with this aggressive Ireland team," Deschamps said. "It's never easy to play two games in three days, but the group (the team) is strong, and they handle it well. Today's game was worse than Friday's but the opponent wasn't him." "Same. Six points is the perfect result, given the small time difference between these two matches. Congratulations to the group, even if there is still a long way to go."

In Rotterdam, the Netherlands mourned the repetition of its sweeping victories over Gibraltar in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers (7-0 and 6-0), but secured the first three points with a 3-0 victory, giving coach Ronald Koeman his first victory in his new, old mission, which he regained after the veteran’s departure. Louis van Gaal after the Qatar World Cup.
Given the modest level of the opponent, the Netherlands was not affected by the many absences in its ranks, whether due to injury or the virus, from which the heart of defense, Matthijs de Ligt, recovered and started, and Cody Khakpo, who participated in the second half.
Memphis Depay opened the scoring for the landlords in the 23rd minute with a header after a cross from Denzel Dumfries, raising his score to 44 goals in 88 matches in the colors of "orange", so he became 6 goals away from the historical top scorer Robin van Persie.
The goal of the Spanish striker, Atletico Madrid, separated the two teams during the first half, before Nathan Ake added the second immediately after the half-time break with a header after another cross from Dumfries (50).
The Netherlands' task became easier after the expulsion of Liam Walker (51), so that Akih added his second personal goal from a long shot (82), with which Koeman's men secured the first points, to become the same distance from Greece, which won in the first round over Gibraltar 3-0 as well.
And in the seventh, and in the third match between them since their independence from each other in 2006, Serbia renewed its supremacy over its host, Montenegro, and achieved its third victory over it, with a score of 2-0, thanks to the double of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic (78 and 90 + 6).
Vlahovic also contributed to the first victory by scoring the second goal against Lithuania (2-0).
The two teams faced off for the first time since separation in 2018 in the third level of the European Nations League, and Serbia emerged victorious 2-0 away from home and 2-1 home.
In the same group, Hungary started its qualifiers with a 3-0 victory over its host Bulgaria.
Balint Vichai (7), Dominic Suboslay (26) and Martin Adam (39) scored.
On the other hand, Bulgaria suffered its second loss after the first, against its guest, Montenegro, 0-1.
And in the sixth, Austria turned the table on its guest, Estonia, when it beat it 2-1.
Austria won a penalty kick in the 17th minute, which was missed by Freiburg striker Michael Grigoric.
Rauno Sabinen gave Estonia the lead in the 25th minute, but the hosts rose up in the second half and scored two goals through Florian Kaints (68) and Grigoric (88).
Austria was at the top of the group with six points, with a difference of three against Belgium, which was absent from this round, and Sweden, which regained its balance after its humiliating loss against the “Red Devils” by three clean ones on Thursday, by defeating its guest Azerbaijan with five clean goals, which were scored by Emil Forsberg (38) and Azerbaijani defender Bahloul. Mostafa Zadeh (65 by mistake against his country), Victor Guikeres (79), Jesper Carlos (88) and Anthony Elanga (89).
And in the fifth, Poland followed the example of Sweden and regained its balance after losing to the Czech Republic 1-3 in the first round, with a difficult victory over its guest, Albania, 1-0, scored by Karol Sviderski (41).
In the same group, Moldova tied the Czech Republic negatively.
And the Czech Republic strengthened its lead by four points, one point against Poland and two points against Moldova, while Albania remained unbalanced in last place with the Faroe Islands.
