The US State Department condemns calls for hate during the flag march
The US State Department condemned what it described as "disgraceful and unacceptable" violence and racist behavior at the "annual flag march" of Israeli right-wing forces in occupied Jerusalem on Thursday.
"The United States categorically opposes any racist language in any form," said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. "We condemn hateful chants such as 'Death to the Arabs' during yesterday's rallies in Jerusalem."
The US State Department urged all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from provocative actions or rhetoric that exacerbate tensions.
Regarding what was attributed to the right-wing Israeli Minister of Finance, Smotrich, that he asked to prepare to receive 500,000 additional settlers in the West Bank, in the settlements, and in the outposts, and what measures the United States might take to deter that or discourage him from following his plan to double the number of settlers in the occupied West Bank, The Deputy Spokesperson of the US State Department, Vedant Patel, responded to the question of the correspondent of "Al-Quds" dot-com, saying, "We communicate regularly with Israeli officials on this issue and will continue to do so."
Patel added, "You've heard me say this before. Like most previous administrations, we view settlement expansion as an obstacle to peace that undermines the geographic viability of the two-state solution. We remain opposed to any unilateral steps that incite tension, damage trust between the parties, and undermine the viability of the two-state solution." .
