One person was killed in Russian strikes targeting the Ukrainian region of Kherson
Russian strikes on Ukraine on Sunday night killed one person and wounded three in the Kherson region, and injured 34 others in the Dniprovtrovsk region, local authorities announced.
"Over the past day, the enemy carried out 39 artillery shelling operations and fired 163 shells from heavy artillery, (missile) Grads, drones and aviation," said the head of the regional military administration, Oleksandr Prokudin.
He pointed out that "the enemy bombed the city of Kherson eight times," adding, "The Russian aggression killed one person and wounded three others, including a child."
Russia still controls parts of the Kherson region, despite its withdrawal from its capital in November.
Earlier this week, regional authorities reported that Russian bombing killed a 57-year-old woman and wounded three others in the village of Belozerka.
Moscow has recently renewed the intensive bombing of Ukrainian regions.
Russian missiles targeted several cities on Friday morning in a strike that was the first of its kind in weeks, killing at least 23 people in Uman (center) and two people in Dnipro (center-east), and the body of a man was found under the rubble of his house in Kherson.
Officials said that Russian forces launched a second missile attack, starting at 2:30 am on Monday.
"Tonight the enemy launched another massive air strike against Ukraine," the Kiev military administration said via Telegram.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 18 missiles from warplanes, destroying 15 of them.
The bombing injured 34 people in Dnipro and damaged many buildings in the city of Pavlograd, according to the regional administration.
In the past months, Ukraine has strengthened its air defenses with Western equipment, most notably the American "Patriot" system, which it received in April.
The latest Russian strikes come at a time when Ukraine confirms that its preparations to launch a counterattack against the Russian forces that invaded its territory as of February 2022 are nearing their end.
Kiev has said for months that it intends to launch an offensive to recapture Russian-occupied territories in eastern and southern Ukraine.
And the governor of the Bryansk region in western Russia announced on Sunday that a Ukrainian air strike targeted the border village of Suzymka at night, killing four civilians.
