April: 50 violations recorded against Palestinian journalists
During the monthly report on the state of press freedoms in April 2023, the Journalist Support Committee monitored more than (50) violations against media freedoms and journalists, including (36) Israeli violations, and (5) violations by Palestinian internal parties, in addition to recording more than Of (9) violations by social media companies, in the framework of combating Palestinian content and obliterating the occupation’s crimes against the Palestinian people.
The Israeli attacks in the occupied Palestinian territories, during the month of April, were represented in the injury and assault of more than (11) journalists by the occupation forces, with the participation of settlers, attacking them with live bullets, rubber, poisonous and incendiary gas bombs, beatings with sticks, kicking and pushing on the ground, and attempts to run over some of them and attempt to suffocate a female journalist. , while covering the violations of the occupation and its settlers against the citizens of the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
In terms of arrests and house arrest, the Israeli occupation forces arrested, detained, and summoned (5) journalists for interrogation and forced them not to cover the violations of the occupation, as they arrested the journalist Muhammad Badr, the media writer Osama Al-Aissa, and detained the photographer Wahba Makiya, Maher Haroun, and the journalist Raeda Al-Julani, who She was released on condition of house arrest and prohibition of contact and communication via social networking sites.
Regarding the postponement of trials, the report recorded (1) cases, where the occupation court postponed the trial of the Jerusalemite journalist Lama Ghosheh until the thirteenth of next June.
Regarding the occupation preventing journalists from covering and performing their duties, the report recorded (12) cases of preventing journalists from covering the occupation’s violations against citizens in the occupied Palestinian territories, shooting and attacking the occupation and its settlers of journalists, including beatings, running over and suffocation, in addition to sources and breaking telephone equipment and cameras (3).
In addition, the occupation forces stormed (3) the homes of journalists and wreaked havoc with them, who are the journalist Muhammad Badr, the writer Osama Al-Aissa, and the journalist Raeda Al-Julani.
Concerning harassment and torture inside the occupation prisons, the report records case (1) against the sick prisoner, writer Walid Daqqa, who is in intensive care and who was only allowed by the occupation to meet his family for only a quarter of an hour in Barzilai Hospital, without receiving treatment that contributes to alleviating his severe pain.
And within the framework of the fierce and systematic campaign launched by social media sites, especially that owned by the “META” company, to combat Palestinian content in cooperation with the Israeli occupation, the report of the Journalist Support Committee during the April 2023 report recorded more than (9) cases distributed in the deletion and restriction of Facebook for 4 Accounts including the restriction of the “Ultra Palestine” page from Ramallah for a period of two weeks, while the report recorded one case of blocking from Instagram, and the Israeli Occupation Court issued a decision to block four Palestinian websites, claiming that they incite “terrorism.”
