78% of its population is below the poverty line.. Abu Al-Saud: Jerusalem suffers from marginalization and neglect

A recent study prepared by Dr. Azmy Abu Al-Saud drew attention to the distinguished association of Jerusalemite groups and families since the occupation of the city in 1967, with their association with occupied Jerusalem of a more ideological nature, and the protection of the sanctities from the control of the Israeli occupation.

Abu Al-Saud told Al-Quds.com that the study proves, with numbers and statistics, the arrival of groups from other Palestinian cities to fill the gap that occurred for the emigration and displacement of Jerusalemites outside the country and their settlement in it, adaptation, integration and solidarity that brings together national and social cohesion.

He added: "The concentration of Palestinians in the neighborhoods of the Old City in order to get closer to the Islamic and Christian sanctities and to prevent the Jews from seizing them. The heterogeneity between the groups is due to the cultural and religious conflict, which results in more tension and violence directed at both parties (Jews and Arabs) in the city of Jerusalem."

The study warned of the seizure of parts of the holy environment by Jewish extremist groups and the establishment of synagogues inside the Old City. He said that this is a continuation of what the occupation authorities did in the seizure of the honor lane by extremist groups after demolishing it and displacing its residents, as they changed its Arab features to landmarks of a religious and Jewish nature in addition to growth. urban in it.

The study dealt with the process of expanding settlements and outposts inside and around the Old City. Abu Saud said: "The occupation authorities have expanded their land grabs and expanded their neighborhoods for the influx of Jews and settlers to bridge the gaps in the area, thus forming a city with a national character for the Jews."

The population density in the center of the city worked to expand the neighboring Arab neighborhoods, as it worked to weaken social solidarity and social relations between members of the Arab groups (Islam and Christians).

He added: "The functional structure of the community differs from one area to another in Jerusalem, due to the different shape of the buildings and the environment in which the area is characterized in terms of overpopulation and its natural environment."

And Abu Al-Saud indicated that West Jerusalem is characterized by the most natural environment, and this reflects on the behavior of individuals in it with calmness and relative stability. As for East Jerusalem, its natural features differed due to the expansion and growth of urban overcrowding, and this reflects on their behavior and the interaction of its members with violence.

In the third axis of the study, which came under the title of economic and social differences and their impact on the relations between the groups of the city, Abu Al-Saud said the interpretation of the data, the economic differences between the groups of Jews and Palestinian Arabs, is through the ownership and control of Jews over all industrial and agricultural facilities in Jerusalem, and the standard of living for the Jewish individual is higher From the standard of living of the individual compared to the Jerusalemite citizen, and the establishment of commercial and technological projects for the Jews in an organized manner, but for the Arab Jerusalemites, this is difficult because of the legal and arbitrary measures.

Also, West Jerusalem is of a vital commercial nature and continuous urban growth, while East Jerusalem is of a tourist nature due to the presence of sanctuaries, which is based on the recovery of the region from the tourism movement, in addition to the connection of the economic situation of the Jerusalemite citizen to the "state", and members of the Jewish groups work in The commercial and political sectors and other high positions in the “state.” As for Maqdisi, he works in the public sector as a salaried employee or as a shopkeeper. Added to this are the low wages in the commercial sector in commercial Jerusalem compared to those in West Jerusalem.

In addition to this, the Jew or the Jewish groups own the land and the ease of purchasing and working on its urban and vital growth in it. As for the Jerusalemites, it is difficult to own and establish any private projects. In East Jerusalem, many economic and commercial institutions and establishments have emigrated outside its borders. Approximately 78% of the city's population lives below the poverty line.
