Netanyahu announces a freeze on passing reforms in light of the continuing demonstrations, and Lapid and Gantz welcome
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced, on Monday evening, his official decision to postpone passing the "judicial reforms" that his government has been trying for weeks to pass through a bill passed in the Knesset plenary in the first reading, and he was expected to pass within days in the second and third readings.
Netanyahu said in a press conference from the Knesset headquarters that he had agreed with his allies on this step, noting that he would work to pass it in the winter session of the Knesset in a few weeks.
He affirmed his and his allies' insistence on passing these reforms, calling for launching a broad dialogue in order to reach an agreement on these amendments to the judicial system.
He accused some parties, which he did not name, of trying to tear the Israeli people apart, stressing that he would not allow that.
The speech took place in the wake of mass demonstrations rejecting judicial reforms, the largest of which is in front of the Knesset headquarters, which is also witnessing a march of the extreme right, with the participation of ministers, including Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir.
Later, opposition leader Yair Lapid , as well as his former ally Benny Gantz , welcomed Netanyahu's invitation to dialogue, calling in two separate conferences for that to be in the office of Israeli President Isaac Herzog .
While the various trade unions announced the return of full economic, health and educational activity after the strike that affected the day.
