While in Brussels.. Shtayyeh calls for not allowing the extremist Israeli government to cross the red lines with impunity
Brussels - "Jerusalem" dot com - Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh called not to allow the new Israeli government, which includes extremists and convicted criminals, to cross the red lines without deterrence or punishment, especially with regard to human rights and settlement expansion.
This came during his meeting with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament, David McCallister, today, Monday, at the headquarters of the European Parliament in the Belgian capital, Brussels, in the presence of Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki, and the Palestinian Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg, Abdul Rahim Al-Farra.
Shtayyeh added, "The actions and statements of the new Israeli government make the situation in Palestine extremely dangerous, and there is a need for serious intervention to protect the Palestinian people and preserve the two-state solution."
He said, "The cost of the occupation must be raised in order for it to end, by imposing sanctions on settlement and its products, and reviewing the partnership and cooperation agreements between the European Union and Israel, and linking them to the extent of their respect for the two-state solution, ending the occupation and respecting human rights."
The Prime Minister also called on the European Union and its countries to recognize the State of Palestine, to re-create hope among the Palestinian people, and to deliver a clear message to Israel not to tolerate its destruction of the two-state solution and its continuous violations against our people.
Shtayyeh continued, "The differences between the army and the settlers are fading away, as both of them practice violence against our people at a high rate."
The Prime Minister called on Europe to fill the political vacuum in light of the American absence, by leading an international effort to end the occupation, and to embody the establishment of the Palestinian state, especially in the absence of an Israeli partner.
