Iran is holding the second foreign oil tanker in two weeks on charges of fuel smuggling
Tehran - (dpa) - Naval units of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard detained a foreign oil tanker in the Gulf today, Sunday, on charges of smuggling fuel, for the second time that such a measure was taken in two weeks.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Bushehr province, southern Iran, said that the ship was illegally transporting more than 200,000 liters of oil.
Iran's Fars news agency reported that the ship's eight crew members had been temporarily detained.
It was not clear at first which flag the oil tanker was flying.
Two weeks ago, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' naval units in the neighboring province of Hormozgan seized a foreign oil tanker on charges of smuggling more than 220,000 liters of fuel, and temporarily detained its 11-member crew as well.
No details of their whereabouts have been announced yet.
