Iranian police are investigating a video showing their officers beating a person
Tehran - (AFP) - The Iranian police announced the opening of an investigation into the behavior of some of its members, after the spread of a video tape showing that they severely beat a person in connection with the protests that followed the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini.
Since September 16, Iran has been witnessing protests over the death of Amini, 22, after she was arrested by the morality police in Tehran for not adhering to the strict dress code in the Islamic Republic.
Dozens of people died on the sidelines of the protests, including members of the security forces, and hundreds of others were arrested in the movements that included raising slogans against the authorities, and what officials consider "riots."
A videotape appeared to have been taken from a mobile phone on social media, showing riot police beating a person lying on the ground, using sticks and kicking.
The person tried to cover his head using his hands, while the officers who wore their protective equipment, including a helmet, continued to hit him, while their colleagues stood close to them without interfering.
In what appeared to be a long alley, there were more than ten motorcycles with riot police on board. In the last parts of it, he heard what appeared to be gunfire from afar, before the officers moved away on their bikes, leaving the man lying on the ground motionless.
And the police stated that "an immediate special order was issued to investigate the exact date and place of this incident and to identify those involved," according to a statement published by the official news agency "IRNA" on Tuesday night.
"The police absolutely reject violent and unconventional behaviour, and will deal with those involved in accordance with the rules" in force, the statement added.
On October 14, the Tehran police announced the opening of an investigation into the behavior of one of its officers, after a videotape spread showing him touching a woman's buttocks while trying to arrest her on the sidelines of the protests.
The police confirmed at the time that the incident took place in the center of the capital, and a "special order was issued to deal with this issue," and that "every violation will be dealt with."
