China renews the red alert to confront high temperatures

BEIJING (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center on Wednesday renewed the red alert for high temperature, the severest alert in its weather warning system, as severe heat waves continue to ravage many regions of the country.


The center stated that during the day on Wednesday, parts of Shaanxi, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Fujian, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong are expected to witness high temperatures ranging from 35 to 39 degrees Celsius. .


The center said temperatures in parts of Sichuan, Chongqing, Hunan, Jiangxi and Zhejiang could exceed 40 degrees Celsius.


The center advised the local authorities to take emergency measures to confront heat waves, suspend work in open spaces exposed to high temperatures, pay close attention to fire safety, and pay special attention to the care of vulnerable groups.


In China, there is a weather warning system consisting of four levels coded in different colors, where red represents the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
