The killing of a female student on a university campus angers Jordanians

Amman - (AFP) - The killing of a female student at a Jordanian private university Thursday angered the Jordanians, while the search is still on for the killer who fired six bullets at her before fleeing the crime scene.

According to a statement issued by the Jordanian Public Security Directorate on Thursday afternoon, "a person fired shots at a girl inside a private university north of the capital."

The statement added that the girl "was taken to the hospital in a bad condition, and the perpetrator fled, and investigations were launched to determine his identity and arrest him."

Later, the girl died of her injury.

A source close to the investigation told AFP, "The murdered Iman Irsheed (21 years old), who is studying at the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Applied Sciences (northern Amman), was hit with six bullets to the head."

He added, "The autopsy showed that the bullets had fractured and lacerated the skull."
As of Thursday evening, the unidentified perpetrator is still on the run, and the reasons for his commission of the crime are not yet known.

Jordanians and the victim's family demanded, through social media and local news sites, that fair retribution be inflicted on the perpetrator, who, if arrested, faces the charge of premeditated murder, which carries a penalty of death by hanging.

The University of Applied Sciences issued a statement saying, "With hearts squeezed by pain and believing in God's will and destiny, the university mourns its student, Iman Irshaid."

And she pledged to "prosecute everyone who caused this painful incident so that he can obtain just punishment for his heinous crime."

This crime in Jordan comes days after an Egyptian young man stabbed a female student in front of her university in Mansoura, Egypt, after she refused to associate with him.

Jordanians circulated the hashtag (#execution of the killer of the applied) on social media, calling for the punishment of the killer.
